If the Ravnica shocklands were in RTR block (as rares, 5 in RTR, 5 in GTC) and standard legal again, do much do you think their value would change? Obviously it would increase both supply and demand for the cards.
Value of original non-foil ravnica shocks will go down with the rush in of supply. Foils will retain their value.
Most people who have a partial set will want to complete their original set for 40/40.
Well, look at the duals from INN and SOM blocks. They ranged from 3 to 20 dollars depending on color and meta. INN duals are on the rise now due to the set not being drafted anymore and demand has gone up.
I think that initially, the duals in R2R will range from 5-20 (depending on color combo) and then they will go down
Some of the lesser ones are already back down to $10. The Zendikar fetchlands had uses in all formats, were one time printings from a big set, and only cost $10-15. I'd say $5 for the lesser ones and $10 for the expensive ones doesn't seem farfetched at all.
$5 happened in the lull before modern was announced. I picked up all 10 of the shocks I needed for my cube for between $5 and $10 each. This was in 2010.
They'll be 8-12 throughout their time in Standard, but due to new art, I imagine that there will be a price differential between the shocks from the first Ravnica and those from RTR. I think that they will go down because RTR is a smaller set than RAV (274 versus 306) and there are significantly fewer rares (88 in RAV, 65 in ISD, which is a 274 sized set with mythics [for compartive purposes]) (with Mythics to further decrease the value of the rares), not to mention there being 5 shocks to a set instead of 4 in RAV, meaning the chance of opening a shockland will be higher. So yes, 8-12, with 15 on the high end.
Also, we do seem to have confirmation that the scenario outlined in OP is indeed reality.

I wonder if having new art will drive up demand from players that already own playsets of the old shocks. I can definitely imagine some completist out there with a full on set of 80 shocks.
That said, the only new illustrations I like better are Blood Crypt and Overgrown Tomb.

The old art is so much more intricate, some of the best art in the entire game. Those lands were absolutely beautiful. I can completest wanting these, but I suspect the price will be lower than the originals.
That said, I am happy to see them again, looks like the meta is in for an interesting shift
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
Hmm, so I've wanted to upgrade the land for my cube for a long time now. Once RTR launches, what would be a fair price to offer for a single copy of all 5 lands. $40 seem about right?
So I have a couple shock lands and I'm wondering if I shoukd keep the old ones or trade them for new ones. I do like the new art and flavor text of the new ones, but I've always been a fan of having the more historical version of the card. I'd imagine the value of the older ones will be a bit more, but I'm not sure.
What do you guys think? Get the new ones or hold on to the old ones?
But with the SOM lands rotating and other factors, these will be the land choice for Standard, which is the largest driving force on price. Won't the price stay about the same, maybe drop a few dollars?

I think the initial hype and demand will increase the prices of both for a while, but I'd imagine with much larger supply the prices of most will drop to around $10. I doubt any will drop below $10. You have to keep in mind that these are used in a lot of places: cubes, standard, modern, even legacy players use them as substitutes for the original duals from time to time. These are really strong land cards, they shouldn't ever be worth less than $10 imo, even the lesser used ones.
Hallowed Fountain preorders have been around $65-70 a playset, $17ish each. While the actual card from DIS is selling at $25. I guess people want them now but the price will definitely go down.
I've seen a few Steam Vents preorders as low as $14 each.
I imagine that they'll be around 12-15 dollars with 18 being the absolute top if the top deck in standard is Ux (because let's face it, U shocks are the best)
the lesser shocks will likely fall to 10, even if they don't see play because they are great in modern, edh, and standard.
Seems to me there will be quite a lot more of the new ones floating around than the old ones, particularly those from Dissension which wasn't opened very much.
Presumably these new ones will be Rare, and while the old ones were too, Rares these days are more common than they used to be (with Mythics in the game).
So, collectability/Rarity-wise, the old ones ought to be more valuable in the long run. But if people in the future overwhelmingly like the new arts, then maybe I guess they could fetch a higher pricetag. I bet there's one or two that will be like this. The rest? Probably a wash.

$5 will probably take a long time to happen....if ever.
$10 will happen on the lesser played ones, no doubt about it.

Will Steam Vents and Hollowed Fountain stay as high as they are now?
It will drop $15 or lower if more people have it.
new symbol should be also considered.
Now realize these are already out there in significant quantities.
...yeah, no way they are above $10 unless a certain color deck is played in huge masses. So $4-$8 is my guess.
You're not pricing in demand from Modern and Commander.
