How will life from the loam price be affected do its reprint in the recent duel deck? I just picked my set at retail and am wondering how big a hit I'm going to take.
Duel decks sell for $20 MSRP and can be found in big box stores for MSRP, unlike FTV or the first couple DDs, it's hard to gouge the prices of these duel decks.
With that said, expect the value of the contents to drop to a point where it meets the msrp. It's only logical.
The money cards of this set is
Jarad - $6
Niv-Mizzet -$8
Isochron scepter -$5
life from the loam - $12
Eternal witness - $3
Grave troll -$2.5
+ several $1 cards
so content wise, we're looking at approximately $40 worth of cards. Only logical that each of those cards drop half in value
To compare with, the previous high-price (more than $10 pre-reprint) cards that got reprinted in Duel Decks are Elspeth, Knight-Errant, Knight of the Reliquary, and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, as far as I can think of. None of them is in a similar position as Life from the Loam though, regarding how much it's played, casual vs. competitive, how long it has rotated out of Standard, etc.
I wouldn't compare those actually because each of those cards was reprinted with a alternate art and foiled.
These decks look solid and should sell well (see: Jace vs Chandra; Garruk vs Liliana; Elspeth vs Tezzeret - all of which had roughly the same value in cards at the time) which will land more of these cards into players' hands (unlike for instance Elves vs Goblins with a small print run or the uninteresting Phyrexia vs Coalition with a large print run). During the release period Life from the Loam could stoop to $9-$10 (with it now being $13-$15) assuming the supply for these decks is upped to meet the recent growth spurt of MTG popularity. I would say end of the day $12 Ravnica, $10 Duel Deck.
This is all assuming that the art remains the same (which is incredibly likely since 5 new arts were spoiled in the article).
Is Life from the loam going to tank now that it is in the new duel deck?
It'll likely go down in price a little, but it won't tank completely. It's a great card used in many formats, and I would expect it to still be worth $8 - 10

Yeah i know its really popular in land reanimate decks and combos so i know it wouldnt "tank" but it would easily go down just not too sure how much

When all is said and done, it'll probably be worth about $8 instead of $12. There really aren't a ton of Duel Decks being sold, and Loam is a cross-format staple.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.

This duel deck will sell very well. It's contents are on par with tezz vs. elspeth and is a casual players dream.
Even so, I don't disagree with the assessment of a drop from 12 down into the 8-9 range (or more accurately, the DD version at around 7 and the original at 9 or so). A lot of the extra supply is going to be absorbed by the EDH and casual crowd who likes this sort of product but won't shell out directly for the card itself. Plus, there's enough demand for Modern/Legacy that it won't just tank.

Hate to say it, but the price drop for Loam is going to be pretty severe efter this dual deck. This thing is going to be extremely popular, maybe their most popular yet. I think $8 may be the high end for that card once this thing is thru.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.

I agree, I just sold off my playset in anticipation of this.
If it gets new artwork the original will likely be unphased, if not down just a little. If the artwork is identical the original foil will retain its price, but the non-foil will drop significantly, as both would be new art, new border, black border cards with only the date and set symbol to differentiate.
For the collector side, I hope it is new art.
