Well Sphinx have doubled in a pretty short time - you could get them for < $4 shipped each not long ago. If they double again, they'll be close to $80 a playset ;).
Obviously a ton of stuff is going to be impacted by the recent bannings but we really haven't seen any run on cards yet so patience is a virture.
Personally, I'm surprised Inkmoth Nexus is still holding so strong. Saw T&T has had them for $11.99 each for almost a week and keep selling out. Thought for sure w/ the Event Decks they would bottom out now and shoot up after rotation.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.

There's only one in the Event deck, and as you may remember, Goblin Guide barely dropped when there were TWO in the Event decks. Nexus is an extremely versatile card that's going to probably be an auto-include in every deck after rotation.
I agree that way "out there" prices can't be used as examples in this thread. Sometimes I see Buy it Nows set to $10,000 just as a joke. They won't sell, of course, so why would we consider that the card's price? I didn't think that needed to be said here, but if it does, then I agree. Use medians and means, not outliers.
In coverage for PT Nagoya, every deck* played some number maindeck and/or sideboard. It wasn't just because they're good, because they're just awesome in some decks (Tempered Steel and Tezzeret) and just filler at best in others (Mono-Red Koth), but because the decks they weren't good in needed them to combat them in the decks they were good in.
While I think it's unlikely every deck will play them after shedding Stoneforge or once Innistrad is legal, there is a precedent for them potentially being in "every deck."
(*I may have missed a list that didn't have any, but every decklist i can remember from the 18 points or better coverage had some number of Inkmoth Nexus)
Hey, my bad guys for forgetting to put foil in there. I'll be more careful in the future.
Inkmoth is an obvious buy at 9 shipped or under. There's only a few decks that don't run them so, I could see them being a 15 dollar card. Especially with how explosive infect can be.
Hmmmm, did he say "every deck after rotation", or did he he say "almost every deck in the 18 points or better at PT Nagoya before rotation"? I heard the former, which is what I was replying to. I still highly doubt it, even if it IS colorless. We'll see soon

I mean, I'm sure maybe one person shuffled up 56 Island 4 Spellskite dot deck, but that guy didn't do too well. If you read my post, I made a case that there is precedent for every good deck in a format playing Inkmoth Nexus, so one where that format translates the most complete block for Standard may have Inkmoths in every/almost every deck you would want to bring to a tournament (18 points or better). No need to flame me, I wasn't being literal -- I don't think either of us were. I don't think enough Inkmoth Nexus are in print for every deck made to play them, for one.
Well, better late than never I always say, been quite busy of late with my online and brick and mortar store sales, but Ill try to get back on track.
As usual my values are determined by the average ebay completed listings, as well as looking at the lowest ebay buy it nows, and occasionally cross referencing with the lowest end of online store prices.
Highest Valued Rares/Mythics:
Tezzeret Agent of Bolas: $24
Sword of Feast and Famine: $17.50
Inkmoth Nexus: $9.50
Consecrated Sphinx: $8
Hero of Bladehold: $6
Thrun the last Troll: $5
Blightsteel Colossus: $4.50
Phyrexian Crusader: $4
Green Sun Zenith: $4
Hero of Oxid Ridge: $3.50
Mirran Crusader: $3.50
Black Sun Zenith: $2.50
Massacre Wurm: $2
Phyrexian Revoker: $1.50
Everything else is $1 or less
Total Value of Mythics: $72
Total Value of Rares: $30
Total Set Value: $108
Average Box Value:
Mythics: $72/10 = $7.20/mythic x 4.5/box = $32.40
Rares: $30/35 = $.86/rare x 31.5/box = $27
Uncommon/Common sets: $6/set x 2.7 sets/box = $16.20
Foils: $3.40/box
Total Average Box Value: $79 (Actually went up by $2)
Average Pack Value:
$79 / 36 = $2.19
Overall, both mythics and rares settled down some, though not a lot all in all, though some more popular mythics and rares have begun to rise helping to offset some of the declines (Consecrated Sphinx, Hero of Bladehold, Inkmoth Nexus). The biggest mover this time around, funny as it is, was the uncommon/common sets. Apparently the supply on the market has slowed down a bit, and thus the full 4x sets have been selling much more stable at $24 or so before a reasonable shipping charge, without that increase we would have been at a loss for box value this update. Still, an increase is an increase, so Im not going to knock it. Overall as a set in Scars block, Id go after new phyrexia in a heartbeat before I would consider touching this set, NPH is simply an overall better set.
Anyhow, enjoy the update, and Ill try to post another in a couple weeks or when I have time.
Okay, time to get back on track, regular updates to follow from here on:

Keeping in mind that its been a while since my last update. Similar to scars we have a clear new winner value wise from the set in Sword of Feast and Famine. Its by far the best sword and the price clearly shows it. Tezzeret continues to hover around $18-$20, as people continue to work with the card to reasonable success. From there you have solid gainers in Inkmoth nexus and consecrated sphinx that continue to show the world that they are worth the money they are going for, though each for different reasons. Both hero's continue to hold solid value, and both seem to have solid potential for the future format. Thrun ebbs and flows in popularity being a solid card regardless, blightsteel just seems to like to hang out, not sure it will see much movement in the future. Both Crusaders have bounced back a bit, and both have solid potential for the future. Otherwise it should be noted that Darksteel plate, while still off the list has been surging of late. I am unsure exactly why, but I do know casual players love it, so who knows. And the uncommon/common set values seem to be dropping of late, too much market flood and not enough solid uncommons to garner enough overall attention. Without that dropping from $6 to $4 respectively, the box value would have risen much more. Overall the set is doing well, and the box value overall is up to a reasonable amount to where you could look to at least break even if you bought a box online or cheaply otherwise.
Anyhow, enjoy the update, and Ill try to post another in a couple weeks.
I was just looking for this, thanks. I hope you can team up with the guy doing the Innistrad one because I like how you put pack/box value in with your calculations. Keep up the good work.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I don't fear the man who has played 10,000 decks once. I fear the man who played one deck 10,000 times.
i'm thinking about slagstorm. I've seen it in snapcaster builds, and with the current glimpse of the meta from indy, i thinks its perfect right now. Seems like most decks are vulnerable to a cheap sweeper, even if it is a pain to get rr. What do you guys and gals think?

Yes. The winner of SC Indy also made a passing comment here about giving it another look.
It's just so versatile being at worse it's 3 damage to both players for 3 mana. However unless Big/Metal Red makes an impact like in Block Constructed, it's going to be mostly a skill card where you try to catch your opponent over-extending or use it if on the draw then drop your creatures. It really needs some other strong R/X decks to increase in popularity.
So what's going on with Green Sun's Zenith? I see that Jeff listed it as $6 weeks ago, but last time I checked it had dropped down to $4 (I guess because it was banned in Modern?), but now it seems to be back up to $6 again.
The foil one is even weirder. Last time I checked it's value it was $14. SCG has some at $20 and on TCGplayer, there's a few at $21 but the next lowest is $53.
Just wondering if this is a card to hold onto or one I should trade off. I've had a few inquiries about it, but it seems to be on a slight rise. Is it getting used in any Standard deck?
All prices based on current low NM value on TCGPlayer of stores with any copies of a card in stock (meaning as few as one copies).
Mirrodin Besieged top 20:
1. Sword of Feast and Famine -- $31.95
2. Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas -- $14.99

4. Inkmoth Nexus -- $12.49

10. Blightsteel Colossus -- $4.44
11. Phyrexian Crusader -- $3.65
12. Black Sun's Zenith -- $2.50
13. Slagstorm -- $1.75

15. Glissa, the Traitor -- $1.20

17. Go for the Throat -- $0.90
18. Praetor's Counsel -- $0.65
19. Darksteel Plate -- $0.59
20. Contested War Zone -- $0.44
Yuck. That bottom half is really stinky.
Phyrexian Revoker seems to be the best card to stock up on, since it's just under a dollar and fits in any deck (and sees some love in older formats). I don't expect a miracle for it, but it basically has nowhere to go but up.

What can I say. What a difference a couple months makes. Firstly of note is just how far Tezzeret has fallen. At one point the #1 card in the set, then stable at #2, and now down to #6. Secondly of note is the sheer amount of price increases the set has seen. It took the rotation and some new decks for the many cards in this set to get their proper respect and given that the set is going to be OOP here very shortly, I can only see prices continuing to increase in the future (similar but not quite as rediculous as some from Worldwake.) The set value skyrocketed, the box value did as well. This is now the #1 best valued box in all of standard, even higher than innistrad much to my surprise.
Anyhow, enjoy the update, and Ill post more each week from now on.
If your store sells mirran faction packs, notice how all of the mythics are good (you can even open tezzeret in those packs). On the downside the rares are better on the phyrexian side (inkmoth, green sun, phyrexian crusader, black sun) vs mirran crusader and slagstorm.
This card will be the worst rare in RTR and less remembered than skaab ruibator in three months. It struggles to be on the same power level as mass of ghouls, even in limited.
That its not simply "not good enough for competitive", or underpowered. But that this is offensively bad, the real stinker tier.
Still, my best evaluation is that its approximately on the same power level as a 4/4 for 4 vanilla beater.

Weird, I have them at $8 shipped and they won't sell.
Consecrated Sphinx is a $9 or $10 card for me right now.
Whoa! Bold statement.
I highly doubt that.
.
Why? It's a colorless manland, so it's a blocker or alternate win condition in every deck that can use it. It's kind of like Tec Edge, I think.
