On ebay at a fixed price recieving a payment with paypal:
(x+7) - x(0.11+0.029) - 7(0.029) - 7 - (0.05 + 0.3) - 31.03 = 4
first term is the total cost paid by buyer including for shipping, second is fees for the cost of the item itseltf, third the fee for the shipping incurred by the paypal transfer, 4th is the shipping itself, 5th the ebay insertion fee plus the paypal flat 30 cent fee, 6th the actual cost I'd pay of each deck. Let me know if I am missing something or if I am mistaken in my calculation
solving x=41.33
some are selling for around 50 with free shipping (shipping is about $7), so it seems there is something to be made
If you plan to dump them on ebay, then no, no it isnt. Here is the thing. There are plenty of counterpunch decks that are available for between $30-$35 shipped (would be a net loss if resold on ebay).
Mirror Mastery for between $35 and $40 (also a net loss if resold on ebay).
Political puppets, heavenly inferno, and Devour for power, all at $40 (also a net loss if resold on ebay).
Just because a couple random decks sold for more than that, doesnt mean they will be easily sellable at that price especially when plenty are available for less at easy to grab buy it nows.
Right, I saw a few at Target the other day and thanks to my ebay app I could see that they're weren't enough going reliably above $30 to take a risk on them.
I read elsewhere (on this forum) that WOTC will try to keep these available for a long while so even buying them now and waiting doesn't seem worthwhile.
it's easy to get all of them at MSRP and you can even buy sets of all 5 under MSRP in some cases. i don't see an easy money making proposition here (and even if you make a couple bucks...you'd have to sell hundreds of them to make it even worthwhile)
If you are willing to take the time to buy them, list them, print shipping labels, and get them to the post office for $4 and call that "fine" I don't think that any rational argument for why you should NOT do this will be falling on deaf ears.
Just looking at the completed listings I don't think you can reasonable expect to sell them for $50. $40, maybe but then shipping and fees eats up the profit.

This kind of condescension is obviously thoughtless.
The post office comes to me
It takes a few minutes to do the listing
A few minutes to pack
It ain't like you drive to and from the store for ONLY ONE BOX AT A TIME
Given my calucation selling them at 42, even with shipping garauntees at least profit
So lets say one could make 4 profit for the sake of argument. takes 30 mins to go to the store. lets say you buy 10. 3 minutes per box. 2 dollars gas => 20 cents additional cost per box. 5 minutes to list, 5 to package. 13 minutes per box total. Making four dollars for 13 minutes of work translates to an hourly wage of 20 dollars. Subtract the 20 cents gas. Oh darn only 19.8 per hour.
With fairness my assumption that you can sell that at 42 might be wrong, but accepting that 4 profit per box would be pretty good, is as I just showed quite rational.
In the end its a moot point because, lets say you do buy at $30 each. Then you sell at, say, $42 (with free shipping), you mentioned shipping would cost $7, so that brings you down to $35, the problem is, at the very least ebay/paypal fees will take 15% of your selling amount, which would be $6, thus leaving you with only $29 for your $30 purchase (once again, a loss). Not to mention as I mentioned in my last post, the buy it nows available for all these are readily available for $40 or less. If you can get them for below msrp, say at about $25 per, then you might have room to profit, but even then the profit margin would likely be less than what you may have been shooting for, once again given what other buy it nows are available.
And I was at a Target today that had 7 of them in stock. This is a Target that is fairly popular for MTG stuff (as far as I can tell with how long other products stay on the shelf).
This kind of condescension is obviously thoughtless.
I was trying to answer your initial question of "Is it WORTH it." To me the answer is clearly "No." Unless you can guarantee yourself a profit of $4 each and sell hundreds of them in a short period of time I don't think it's worth it. You cite $19.80 an hour for work and that is decent I guess, but how many 13 minute chunks a day will you be able to spend doing this?
And, going back and looking at the completed listings you won't make even $4.
This kind of condescension is obviously thoughtless.
Not really, we're actually giving you some pretty good advise NOT to do it. Ebay/Paypal sucks you dry with fees and such, and don't even mention Priority Postal rates with have gone up to like $8-10. With an easily accessible product like this, there really is no "win" here, and frankly you'd be much better off cracking them open for trade bait and "profit" that way.
I just sold 2/3 of my board game collection and was pretty happy that I had made around 1K on the deal. But then reality hit me after fees and shipping and I actually ended up giving away a couple of the games for free when I really sat down to figure it out. Sure I still had a chunk of change I was happy with, but I also thought I was being careful and hadn't expected to "lose" money on the deal.
You are underestimating the time this will take. It is further multiplied by how many of these you want to break down. And what if your sales have problems? You assume that risk every time you sell something.
Ask yourself OP just how much your time is really worth. If "more than 4 dollars an hour" is your answer, I would consider passing on this "opportunity".
Gal and panda are not trying to berate you. You came to market street looking for good advice and you got it. On the other hand, if you came here already knowing what you are going to do, I'm not sure what kind of help you were looking for.
After seeing them still in stock at Target last night, buying Commander decks for resale seems like negative EV. Maybe you'll be the lucky guy to sell them at above MSRP after fees, but those are just playing odds instead of actually realistically getting a return on your investment.
This is one of those products where there is a lot of product flood on ebay such that there is no margin for the whole product. People have either bought them for certain cards, taken those out and sold the rest, or they have replaced some of the cards with staples and sold the stuff they took out.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
if you have the target visa card, you get 5% off ALL purchases at the register. does that help reduce your cost and up profit? seems like $1.5 off per COMM box prob helps if you buy and sell in bulk amounts...
Next time you post popular opinions, please word them in such a way that they're not infractable. Someone may be widely thought to be the dullest tool in the shed, but you can't publicly call him that, which as a mod I can neither confirm nor deny that I fervently believe he's a tool.
At this point, the opportunity for gouging is long past. At the time of release, sure (just look at the many LGS that were doing it).
Supply is catching up to demand, if not already there. If decks are still on the wal mart and target shelves, then for sure there is no money to be made here because no one will overpay when you can get them for msrp at a big box store.

With the amount of printing for this set we are looking at, I doubt in 3-5 years they will be worth much more than MSRP.

Odds of pulling a JtMS from a WWK pack: 1:80
Odds of pulling any specific rare in 5th Edition: 1:133
So, on average, 1 JtMS every 2.222 boxes or 1 Bird of Paradise every 3.694 boxes. Yeah, I'll take my odds with Mythics, they are easier to get than old rares.
Want to support a LGS that finally branched into the selling online world? Send me a pm with your email for a $5 off coupon (usable on purchases of $10 or more) for a LGS that just recently got onto TCG player.
so you want to sell it at $42. which would get you $4 in profit.
remember that you are floating $42 in order to net a $4 profit. Its a lot of work for 9.6% profit. That's assuming it sells at $42. There are some selling on Ebay for way less the $42.
Also anyone can goto a target or walmart and get the for less way then $42. its not like they have a shortage.
And, if you're considering it it's not worth parting them out either, at least not via selling on eBay. I put mine up on the same Friday it came out. I got two complete sets from my LGS at an even $140 apiece, including taxes. One I kept for myself, and the other I parted out as follows (keep in mind these were my prices on immediate release, they may seem high now). First price is my starting price, price in parenth was my BIN.
Sol Ring x4 $20 ($25) SOLD FOR $25
Greaves x4 $12 ($16) SOLD FOR $16
Command Tower x4 $15 ($20) SOLD FOR $20
Homeward Path $7.50 ($9) SOLD FOR $9
The $ I received above is the total, minus eBay/Paypal fees. Basically I'm saying on each auction I also got additional $ in terms of actual shipping costs. So, so far I've brought in $70 (before fees are taken out) having spent $140.
I attempted to sell via eBay the following, which attracted no bidders. Since the minimum wasn't reached, my BIN is irrelevant.
The 15 new commanders (w/ oversized): $65
The 5 dragons (w/ oversized): $10
One copy of each Vow: $2
Chaos Warp: $10
Flusterstorm: $11
When the commanders and dragons didn't sell initially, I reposted the auctions, for $55 and $8 respectively. The set had now been out a week, and these relistings failed to sell as well.
I was getting kind of bummed, when the following happened: my friend bought the commanders for $55 so he could paint extended art on them (which saved me some eBay/Paypal fees), and I sold Flusterstorm and Chaos Warp to mananation.com for $25 total.
So, I'd now brought in $70 + $55 + $25 = $150. As stated, all my postage costs were covered, so I made $10 before fees. After fees, I probably lost $10, but I'm ok with that because I got to KEEP a heck of a lot of cool EDH cards for my $10. Sol Ring #5, Solemn, Greaves #5, the 5 dragons, red Akroma, Anger, Avatar of Woe, Command Tower #5, Eternal Witness, Oblivion Stone, Scavenging Ooze, Skullclamp, Wonder, etc.
When I set out, I didn't care if I made much (or any) money, I just didn't want to lose money. Well I "lost" about $10, but what I kept in cards more than made up for it. Of course the prepping the auctions and getting supplies and 2 trips to the post office probaly ate up 2-3 hours of my time. If you're to buy them for MSRP, plus assuming 6% tax, your costs would be nearly $160. I wasn't able to pocket more than $130.
Anyone know if people are buying on here?
Seems on ebay they are generally going for anywhere from 7-15 more than MSRP. I think I might clean out the local Walmart and Target.
I'd pay $31.03
On ebay at a fixed price recieving a payment with paypal:
