I have some cards that I want to get graded. I have some pieces of power that are pretty beat, the grading is more proof of authenticity than anything else. I also have an English Imperial Seal that's probably a BGS 10 on everything but centering, and a Moat that's "Mint" by eBay standards but no idea where it rates on the PSA/BGS scale. These are going to be graded for value.
Is there any reason to prefer one over the other for magic cards? Is one significantly cheaper or more expensive than the other?
From what I've seen and read, BGS has tougher standards than PSA. Therefore, for a given grade BGS will be more valuable. No idea on cost, though.
Cost depends on how your account is setup (aka volume) but the spit ball figure Ive heard thrown around is about $20 per hardcase. Personally I would grade the seal & moat if you think they can get 8+.
Re the beat power I wouldnt bother, most people looking to buy EX power are looking to play it and will know how to ID it as real. If their anything like me they wouldnt be willing to give a permium for something Im just planning to open anyway. (Unless its beat beta then it might still be worth it)
Thanks for the replies. I guess the ultimate answer to which shop to grade it is whatever is cheaper, since the Imperial Seal is way too off center to get a 9 for centering. The power is beta.
In the end, I guess this is for much peace of mind as anything else, well worth $20 to me.
Get a Jeweler's Loop and a Black light . Those are more than enough for determining if your cards are real. Look for the circle and dot patterns on the cards and the blue line ..

Take it to a card dealer that does submission service to PSA. They should be able to tell you what grade you will end up if. then decide if you want it graded. They will charge a few dollars to submit for you, other wise you will need be pay for a membership on PSA.
BGS 10s, according to BGS is suppose it better then PSA 10s. BGS grading scale are in 0.5 increments. PSA grading scale are in 1.0 increments.
Off center cards are not worth grading, unless they are already high value cards. Just take a look at the card carefully. The clean finish and surface are things that effect grading but hard to tell unless you really look at the card.

A "mint" english imperial seal is not worth grading?
