Thanks for the replies guys, I guess I'll move my 10-bar up a bit higher, but I do see that several ppl use something around 10 as well, hehe.
Amen, maybe not past 20, but there should be a point where it doesn't matter. I distinctly remember some few people making it difficult for me back when I first started even when I passed 30 due to some minor small diff in refs...funny b/c I usually surpassed them in refs by the time my cards arrived.
Yeah that usually works, I guess I'm just surprised when the answer is no, doh! ^^ Like Telekinesis said, I find it humorous when someone with zero refs puts up a sale and sales "You pay first". I guess the prevailing thought is like dyzzy said, "payment before shipment because that just makes sense (you're not gonna order something from a store and expect them to send it to you before you pay them are you?)", but when you buy from a store it's not from a random anonymous person online with no address and no BBB to complain to
I also think dollar value matters. A 20 dollar trade simil with someone at 30ish trades? sure. A 100+ dollar trade? little more leary.
As for paying first, if they dont mind ppal fees idc, paypal "has my back".
Another thing I disagree with is on the 1st page of this thread, SolonJhee said that he requests people to ship first unless they have 130+ for sales or trades. That seems borderline paranoid to me. Granted mods have to deal with stuff that would melt our face like a 1,000 mana fireball, but I still don't understand that. I have worked with mods on here to help catch scammers and have them banned...and yet if I do a deal with him I have to ship first?
Borderline paranoid? And yes I would definitely ask that you send first, having more then 50 references than you, and having been trading here for more then two years then you have.
Yes you have 98 feedback, and are probably pretty trustworthy and legit, but unless you have traded with me before or I know you better I believe I've earned the right to not send first between us.
What does me being a mod have to do with any of this? I just became a mod a month ago. Does 'working with mods to catch scammers' qualify you to me? I've never worked with you.
I'm not trying to insult you or anything, but I'm not basing it on paranoia (lol, go look up Niceguy101 and you'll notice that was my first online trade ever), I'm basing it on sound reasoning.

To be fair, being mod is completely irrelevant. It's all about the refs and your reputation. I was a mod, I am no longer, but I am probably not sending first to you or anybody that is less than me. Now if I had to deal with someone like SolonJlee, who has 35+ refs more than me, I'd probably simul-send, maybe send first depending on what the deal was.
Each case is different, but the ref rule is pretty universal.
I believe that he was saying that the mods have seen the worst of the worst when it comes to online traders and therefore it is more understandable that they would be less trusting of a person regardless of refs.
