In the panel this morning when they were talking about the Aetherborn and Gonti, they referred to him as "they". Given the choice of pronoun, the similar smokiness, could Ashiok actually be an Aetherborn from Kaladesh?
Very highly unlikely, since the mothership says aetherborn live for a very short time and live life to their fullest to compensate. Additionally, they are constructs, not natural creatures with souls, so they can't have a planeswalker spark (except for Karn, who was gifted his)
Plus I think the aetherborn seems to be smoking away from just living, while Ashiok smokiness is from thier use of magic.

It seems possible that Ashiok is an unusual Aetherborn, maybe kept alive by the Spark or some other magic. I believe it was established that Ashiok is slowly disintegrating which is basically what happens to the Aetherborn, yes?

Touche, I had not considered that. Plus even though karn is the only non-soul walker to have a spark, they could write a way for an aetherborn to get one somehow

What is the source on Aetherborn not having souls?
Because if it is in universe information Kaladesh seems like the kind of place where a race of undesireables might well be claimed to not have souls.

That doesn't make them constructs imo.
It just means that the aether refinement process created the environmental conditions neccessary for them to come alive, like ooze creatures forming from industrial waste.
You could compare them to elementals though.
A fine point! I shouldn't have said contstructs, that makes them sound like machines. My apologies! Elementals would have been much more apt

As you say that would make them elementals and we've been told that Elementals can't be walkers, at least not naturally. That makes it much less likely. Also Ashiok's skin doesn't look like stone the way that Aetherborn seem to.
We don't know exactly what sort of beings the Aetherborn are categorized as so it seems rather silly to be debating with pure speculation rather than facts as to whether or not they could be planeswalkers.

Giving what Gonti does and what Ashiok's card does. I do believe that Ashiok is Aetherborn.
I would be willing to bet that the bad thing coming to the Inventor's Fair is Ashiok. And the Aether Revolt will be the Aetherborn led by Ashiok attacking the government of Kaladesh.

Ashiok is disintegrating through the use of his madness magic. This has been established both in out of universe comments (I think) and also observed within the story by Phenax.

I wouldn't say they're undesirables, considering that an Aetherborn is shown under the benefactors tab on the Inventor's Fair page.
Aesthetically Ashiok only barely resembles what we've seen of the Aetherborn. The former is a sleek, dark being, while the later look much more broken and glow with energy.
Also Aether Revolt has all but been stated as being lead by Chandra. Appearently some of the Aetherborn are loyal to her, however, based on the pic.
Looking at the very few pictures we have available of aetherborn, I can't really find any similarities between them and Ashiok, other than a wispyness and being grayish; and Ashiok is significantly more wispy than the aetherborn. There are far more view-able differences than similarities. What are the similarities people see?

If I remember correctly Flamekin can potentially be walkers even though they are elementals. I feel Aetherborn are the same way. Born of something abstract, but not constructs.
