This cards activated ability is to pay 1 swamp, discard a card and put a 1/1 token festering goblins, which has "whenever festering goblins is put into a graveyard from play, target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn".
My question is this: because the festering goblins brought into play by Skirk Ridge Exhumer is a token creature, would it not be removed from the game when it leaves play, as opposed to going into the graveyard, in turn making this card next to worthless?

No, tokens can change zones and then cease to exist when state based actions are checked. It's not a replacement effect that would exile a token instead of going to the graveyard (or hand or library or exile). The quirky thing is that if an ability tries to cause a token to change zones and return it to the battlefield, it simply doesn't return to the battlefield and then ceases to exist by SBAs.

A token ceases to exist when it is found in a zone that's not the battlefield. In order for that to happen, it has to enter a zone that is not the battlefield. In other words, the Festering Goblin token will go to the graveyard, trigger the ability, and then cease to exist.
110.5f A token that's phased out, or that's in a zone other than the battlefield, ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

Please use card tags when you're asking a question about specific cards: [c]Serra Angel[/c] -> Serra Angel.
When a token creature dies, it goes to the graveyard like any other creature. However, a token existing in any zone other than the battlefield disappears as a state-based action.

Maybe this reality is actually an alternate reality of a reality in which New Phyrexia was the joke expansion and Mirrodin Pure was the obvious expansion, except our reality is the Time Shifted reality which is opposite of that other reality which is that actual reality.

So, no, the card is fine as printed.
