I have a kitchen finks and a murderous redcap on the board. I declare my intent to enter combat and make my mutavault. He says OK. (passing priority) I enter declare attackers step and he says he responds to my entering of the combat step and uses path to exile on my kitchen finks. I call a judge over and I explain the situation to him. He rules in favor of my opponent. Isn't the judge wrong? Don't I have priority once I enter declare attackers?
Yes, but the problem here is that you have to yield priority while the stack is empty during the beginning of combat step before you can proceed to the Declare Attackers step. From what I can tell in this situation you went to the beginning of combat step, activated your Mutavault, then tried to progress the game to the Declare Attackers step without yielding priority to your opponent, which is impossible.
