Just saw that there is a sealed Nagoya PTQ tomorrow (always fun to do) and I was wondering how is the pack repartition ... is it 6 SOM or a 3/3 split with MBS ?
If it is a 3/3 is there faction like during prereleease or the pack are just random ?
I'm pretty sure it's all SOM, as we're not even to prerelease of MBS online yet. Why they can't release both at the same time, I'll never understand.
For one thing, they need to beta test the cards - make sure all the abilities and effects work as intended, and they cant really start a beta with all the cards weeks before release...
Considering they have the sets complete months in advance, and the amount of money the rake in, yes they could with private servers. No problems at all.

It's most likely to let the brick'n'mortar stores hold (pre-)release events without having to compete directly with MTGO.
This is correct. It was something they announced a while ago, and they're not changing. They want to keep paper Magic alive, and one of the most profitable times for stores is release. They don't want to change that.

This isn't true... They beta test cards well before the paper release on private servers.
It's 100% because they do not want BnM stores to have to compete.
Wish they would release exactly two weeks later. Paper pre-release then one week later paper release another week later MTGO pre-release then another week and MTGO release.

The beta testing is done by members of the community, and it takes time. You just know people will spoil the set if the beta testing is started to ensure a simultaneous release. I believe it happened with Judgment.
Yes I know that. Currently they like to start the MTGO pre-release about 2-3 weeks after the paper version is released. It would be nice if they were doing releases like that once a week like that instead of there current system of releasing it.
That is 2 weeks later: the pre- is 2 weeks after the paper pre-, the release is 2 weeks after the paper release.
Actually I think the pre-release is 3 weeks later (Jan 29th vs Feb 17th), but the regular release date is only 2 weeks later (Feb 4th vs Feb 21st).
This is because (at least for Mirrodin Besieged) in cardboard world the pre-release is one weekend, and the regular release date is the following weekend. Whereas in the online world the pre-release is just before the weekend and the regular release date is at the end of that same weekend. So, if you're counting since the time people were cracking packs at a pre-release event, it's 3 weeks difference.
