Hey everyone, my name is Kyle and I was wondering something. I started playing MTG around 6 or so months ago and I did what normal noobs do, I boughgt ALOT of packs, by I mean ALOT I mean like maybe a crate all together, great idea huh? Well it was some of the stupidest **** I have ever done in Magic and since I am sick of buying packs and my deck is almost done, ( All I need is one more Woodland Cemetery) I thought about pimping my deck out. By this I mean get the rest of my Full body lands and such but I need 4 more full body lands to finish it so I was thinking to take it to the next level. I was thinking getting Guru lands for my deck. I don't have enough $$$ to buy all of them at once but I was thinking start out one at a time. But I'm still on the fence if I should spend so much money on a land card but on the other hand its rare and I know it will just go up in price overtime. So what do you guys think I should do? Should I just finish it and leave it how it is or should I start really pimping it out? Thanks for reading, give me your feedback if you want.

Guru lands are extremely expensive and rare. You have to take good care of them to preserve their value, so if you don't know how to keep cards in good condition or aren't willing to be meticulous about it, don't buy such expensive cards.
But if you do take good care of them, they will probably go up in value. After all, they are highly sought after by collectors and players, and probably will continue to be.
If this is for a standard deck, then don't bother. Any other format where your deck will be played for a very long time then go ahead and do what makes you happy.
If you are buying cards as a collectible investment, you should not be playing with them. They should be stored in a safe, dry place and properly insured.
One hundred percent yes, you should do it. Seeing bad players with expensive cards is always hilarious
This is pretty mean, you seem very jealous...care to explain why?
and....
If money isn't a problem (and I'm talking about really isn't a problem, like you don't know what to do with it, not that you just got a raise for 10k and are excited or something) then yes, do it. However if you think you can find that money a better place DO THAT FIRST.

You are a total *******, how do you know I'm terrible at MTG? Your probably some stupid kid with nothing better to do then troll topics, and I bet you probably suck at MTG and is jealous you stupid ****.
I would do it if I were you. I have three such decks (2 EDH, 1 60-card), and though having the cards is great, the thrill of the chase as you try to trade for (or even find someone with) the last card you need is even more gratifying.
That said, I'd make certain the deck is going to be a mainstay before pimping it out. I've been playing on and off since '95, and the only decks I've really put the work into are my signature decks that I've either had for awhile or know will not be taken apart any time soon.
Regardless of what anyone (myself included) tells you here, just have fun with it and build your deck in a way that will make you happy because it's yours.

Hey dude, calm down. I think he's just trolling.
Anyhow, I totally recommend pimping out decks if they are for eternal formats (I'm currently foiling out a 1k deck, which is 1k when UNFOILED, and a lot more when all foil.)
The deck I am foiling out I am trying to make foil-foreign. Which will make the deck ridiculously expensive. Though, keep in mind I love the deck to death. I love it so much I will probably be getting 7 guru plains.
also, pimping decks is great! I know I was at a loss to do when I finished Death and Taxes, so now I'm pimping it out!

I've been playing for the third time since about a month before rotation.
Anwyway, my friends and I who collect together have about 3 decks half foiled. Out of the 40 set of shocks, 27 are foil, and we have a playset of old steam vents. We haven't spent a lot on actual card accumulation.
I used to have cawgo foil except we never had more than 2 jace's at a time, with most of the time having none.
If you want to foil your ****, do it.
Guru lands will never be reprinted and were all less than $100 two years ago.
Yeah, I seem to remember a recent SCG tournament where a player was using Guru lands and everyone in the stream was like "what the hell is this?"
Anyway, I never bothering pimping my deck. There's always new decks to build! Why would I want a guru land when I could have a Tropical Island instead?

This is basically my stance on it, I like to change decks a lot...if I put in ~1k to pimp it out REAL good, then by the time that project was over I would probably abandon the deck.

Hi I'm Infecter4life and ironically I only play GBx decks.
I propably wouldn't buy GURU lands now just for pimping a standard deck, that will most likely need to be changed around on May, when a new set comes out. But if you would like to get enough of them to make most manabases, it might be reasonable, altought expensive.
I did get GURU's about 4 years back, but haven't played them in standard decks, which is somewhat funny, as I thought to use them as draft lands at first. But I will play them in legacy and vintage decks as they look gorgeous.
GURU lands should hold their value very nicely, so it's a low risk buy, if you can get them at reasonable price. Unfortunately the biggest increase is over and there's not much room for real profit, but even steady increase should be fine.
Currently the last set sold on MKM for 515 €, meaning 680 $ for a set of five lands. I believe that the price will keep going up to some extent, but at some point new pimpers will decide that 500+ (or some other arbitary value) is too much for basic Islands. Currently also Swamps, Plains and Forests top 100$. For some reason nm Mountains are relatively cheap in Europe, just 60 €, but there are not that many of them floating around, so one big buyer would rise the price pretty easily on them also. I believe that the pain treshold is somewhere below 1000 € for the full set, but I've been wrong on the prices pimpers are willing to pay before, as some prices just go crazy (Full art Mutavault is a prime example).
If you want to invest some money in magic, I would suggest buying into modern or legacy, instead of spending it on guru lands. Sure they're sweet, and all that, but in the end, they're just basics. you're much better off with cards like tarmogoyf, Liliana, duals, FoW's, etc.

If you can afford it do, but don't pour a life savings into a deck that you might not finish. Personally I'd grab foil Unhinged Lands, they usually have more of a wow factor (not everyone knows what a guru land looks like)
I was just recently thinking about pimping out some decks too.
Thing is I don't value foil as much as other people do. Some people believe foil is this "zomg" thing thats worth 4-5 times the original card. I would rather trade or buy 4 good playable cards than 1 foil of equal dollar value.
From my experience selling online, foils are harder to sell. Maybe because of big price tags, or because of people just like me.
Lastly, price of foil cards seems much more volatile than their non-foil counterpart. (On Ebay, anyway) One week its $50, the next week its going for $30, then back up to $40, back down...
Foiling isn't the only angle you can take to get some pimp. I know some people who go for non-foil foreign versions of cards, usually Russian or Korean with Japanese falling out of favor and S-Chinese having no extra value.
I collect miscuts and misprints in general. There are some new ones too, like a severely crimped holiday Dreg Mangler that I got a couple months ago. Gatecrash was full of ink blotches and minor blurs, so it wouldn't be too hard to track down some errors on Standard cards that you like.
And I like the idea of going for pimp basic lands before anything else. Those are going to be used in constructed decks across formats (especially Islands) so they're actually stable investments compared to anything in Standard. The window to pick up GURUs at decent prices has passed, but Zendikar foil basics are still really cheap compared to their Unhinged counterparts.
Do not buy hot Standard foils. Like what was said before, they're volatile and are going to tank hard when they rotate unless they are also staples in older formats or EDH superstars. Get foil Liliana of The Veil and Snapcaster Mage, not Thragtusk.

You can't always win, and just because you lose doesn't mean you played badly.
Even if you lose, it is important to remain confident in your ability to make good plays and decisions. Lose that and you are truly lost.
Testing is great, and the better the testing is, the better off you'll be.
It is impossible to tilt and play well.
It is possible to make no mistakes and still lose.
Foiling isn't the only angle you can take to get some pimp. I know some people who go for non-foil foreign versions of cards, usually Russian or Korean with Japanese falling out of favor and S-Chinese having no extra value.
See thats funny too; I think foreign cards are junk. I can't read them, my playgroup can't read them. But again, some people feel they are worth MORE. Like Korean or Russian cards on ebay or even sometimes on MTGS. Is not worth more... is garbage in the US. Hellooooo
Gatecrash was full of ink blotches and minor blurs
Yeah I have a handfull of blurred Gate cards. Can't say I was overly thrilled about seeing those in the packs. Like what happened to quality control =S
The pimping slope is very slippery. Once you start you cannot stop. Which means you turn into a pimp hoarding machine without willpower to stop yourself. I wouldn't start pimpin.
But then again i am pimpin', to my wallet's huge sorrow and pain.

Do you have a modern deck? Legacy deck? EDH deck? Cube? Don't you want to draft?
Somebody with less than 100% of a magic deck that started playing within a year dropping $DI on basics is such a god awful idea.
