I made a thread over at Legacy for help with Dredge. I knew nothing about the deck or how to play it.
In short, the community here came to my assistance and today I was able to not only play the deck but play it fairly well and even make it out of the Swiss.
And this was my FIRST time playing the deck.
I know that we all don't agree about a lot of things in regard to this game and we've had more than our share of arguments, sometimes getting downright ugly. And I know I can be a pain in the ass, opinionated, obnoxious and downright annoying.
But when somebody here needs help, this community, this wonderful community, comes to their aid.
I couldn't have done what I did today without MtgSalvation.
So thank you all.
Even the ones who think I'm an opinionated, obnoxious, pain in the ass.
Glad to hear it, LBS!
This is why we need to have more frank and honest discussions on MTGS, instead of everyone just posting when they get 1st (or when they think they got 1st...) It helps so much when I get some tough love and criticism on decklists and play-styles; it's helpful for the community and players, even if some people only like to hear "congratulations" rather than "this why you punted..." or "do this next time..."
As much as MTGS Constructed forums get some flak, I could care less, there's some great people who post on this site. Way to go, team!
Also: **** yeah combo in Legacy. First time I ever played in a Legacy tournament I went undefeated with Belcher Can't say that happens often with that deck these days... C-c-c-c-comboooo!
edit: care to talk about your match-ups? I'm always interested in seeing how Dredge faces other decks.
Thats right, LBS.
There is nothing wrong with an opinion. Not everyone has to see eye-to-eye regarding everything as we all come from different walks of life.
Side Ad: Deeply appreciated if someone will to help me with my Werewolf .dec in Casual & Related Formats ...
Yeah, the community here is top-notch, and one I'm rather glad to be a member of. Thanks for taking the time to remind us that while we all may argue... and argue... and flame (a little)... and troll... and butt heads... and argue... we are all here for some variation upon the same goal: to improve our skills as MtG players and share our love of this game.
It is sometimes a shame how heated discussion here gets. It oft pains me to see pages of text underscoring some folks' unwillingness to think outside their box. Still, I believe that the passion we see in these forums is positive. It demonstrates the fire in our community's belly, the drive to succeed at whatever level we each play at.
I know that I have learned more about playing Magic in these forums than anywhere else except the tables I play on. I also know that I still have a lot to learn and am happy to know that this community is here to help me. I hope that somewhere, sometime, someone has learned something from what little I have contributed. Failing that I hope, at least, that someone has been entertained by some witty comment. Failing that I hope someone has been mildly amused by my idiocy.
Long story short, I too would like to thank the members of MTGS for being a great group.
Also, Dredge rocks. I still rock the now obsolete pre-Faithless Looting LED-less Dredge with the Putrid Imp and Tireless Tribe. I love it. My absolute favourite thing about the deck is having newer players roll up to the table and try and figure out how I got a 16/16 Grave-Troll, two Ichorid and nine 2/2 Zombies on the battlefield with only one land in play...
Last but not least, LBS, I don't think, I know that you're an opinionated, obnoxious, pain in the ass, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Like all people you sometimes struggle with seeing what lies outside the box, and occasionally have difficulty agreeing to disagree, I think that overall you have a healthy drive towards self-improvement. I often find myself emphatically agreeing with what others might perceive as "grandpa on another rant" (I don't know how old you are but I suspect you've got a few years on my 28). If people didn't come here to speak their minds, attempting to do so with some degree of honesty and integrity we would not have the excellent resource that we do.
Anyways, thanks again to everyone here, and special thanks to anyone who bothers to read the drivel I concoct. Y'all have fun and keep safe, y'hear?!
...not only is the total number of players expanding very quickly, but at the same time a greater and greater number of those players are being pushed to only desire a small subset of the available cards. These combined forces drastically increase demand for those cards and cause the values of just those specific cards to often balloon out of proportion.
edit: care to talk about your match-ups? I'm always interested in seeing how Dredge faces other decks.
I'm doing this from memory, which isn't that great these days so the details will be very sketchy.
Round 1 - Mirror
Yes, played against Dredge right off the bat. Game 1 I basically just outdredged him. Had 3 bridges in the yard and he couldn't get anything going.
Game 2 I sided in Tormod's and keeping a bad first hand, ended up having to draw which drew me one of my crypts and played it while he had 3 Bridges in the yard a ton of dredgers and about ready to tear me to shreds. In other words, I lucked out into a win.
Round 2 - Omni Show
Game 1 - No idea what I was playing against and had to mull to 5. And with that, had just a so-so hand but playable. Didn't matter. Turn 2 Show with Emrakul was game.
Game 2 - I Therapy turn 1 and name Show. He doesn't have it but has Omni. He brainstorms into Show, drops Omni and then brainstorms into Gris next turn and that was it.
I'm guessing this isn't a great matchup for us but I may have just been beaten by nut draws.
Round 3 - Reanimator
This was the match of the day for me. It took every ounce of brain power I had and some smart sideboarding to win this one.
Game 1 - Don't know how I pulled this out pre board with essentially no answers to this deck. But somehow he couldn't draw into anything and I managed to Ichorid and Narco my way to a win.
Game 2 - He drops a quick Iona and it was over fast.
Game 3 - I dredge into all 3 Memory's Journey that I boarded it. Yeah, I had some amazing luck. So each time he put something in the yard, I had him shuffle it back in. I had to do this 3 times. In the meantime, I managed to Therapy twice naming Reanimate and Exhume and thus stalling him long enough even if he managed to drop something in the yard.
In the meantime, I just played out my own game plan eventually getting 6 zombie tokens and enough to finish him off.
Top 4 - Omni Show
Face the same guy who beat me in the swiss. I gave it everything I had but again got bad opening hands, having to mull a lot and never really had a chance. Game 2 I did manage to stall him off with a couple Narco against his Gris (yes, I didn't concede) but a Jace eventually put an end to that, bouncing my guys.
Didn't draw one Therapy in either game. Just had no chance as without a nut draw, his deck is just faster than mine. Turn 2 Ancient Tomb into SnT is just backbreaking.
So finished 2-2 for the day. Not too bad for a deck that I never played with before other than goldfishing at home.
The deck building tips here made this possible. I would have never thought of boarding in Memory's Journey against Reanimator without the help of this forum. That made the difference between 2-1 or 1-2 in the Swiss.
In retrospect, I think maybe I need to be a little less cantankerous and a little more open minded when players who obviously know more about this game than I ever will, say something.
Of course with all the noise here, it's sometimes hard to know who knows their stuff and who's just mouthing off.
When all is said and done, and everyone is up in Ponyville Heaven, and everything is Ponies. I hope there is an all you can eat buffet. Cause that would be awesome.
I will make this VERY short.

Legacy love.
Hoping for a cure, or at least an outbreak.
