A while back I inherited my uncle's Magic collection...nothing really spectacular, no Power, nothing earlier than Tempest and not too many valuable pieces. But I just discovered that the playmat he gave me is an original 1999 Spellground playmat bearing official Magic art and Wizards' endorsement. It's in pristine condition, and I guess they sell for somewhere between $200-$400.
"Yesterday, I stumbled to my dads magic collection!" (actual quote from a guy on another table).
Christ, that makes me feel so old.
Nice find, BTW, but I' think you'd be hard pressed to sell that for $400.
I know how you feel, the irony here is that I started playing before he did, and in another six years or so, my son will stumble onto MY collection. Sigh.
Thanks, though, I'm kinda excited about it. I don't know if I can sell it, though...it's really a piece of Magic history.
If you don't want to play on it (keep it mint, ect.), you could frame it and loan it to your local store (if you trust them) to display it. My friend did this with a similar situation.
I've seen a similar looking grey playmat but my only thought about it was that it felt thin and cheap. Guess it might have actually been pimp?
I had that same reaction, which is why I had forgotten about it for over a year now. It does feel cheap, it has no rubber backing and its vastly inferior to the standard Ultra Pro playmats that are so common these days. But it looks DAMN cool.
Love the old two player Spellgrounds mats, so amazing too bad they cost an arm and a leg lol
Pretty sick, thats a super rare one b/c I have only seen the World Champion Grey one.
To anyone looking for a mat, Spellgrounds mats are pretty sick and worth the money if u can get them cheap. I recommend the reprint which isn't as perfect as the originals but comes pretty close.

I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging, I just needed to tell someone about my good fortune.
