Basically a bunch of my friends and I are splitting a booster box, but I've been reading... I've seen posts where people said that scars of mirrodin and rise of eldrazi are pointless to buy booster boxes for. Do you guys believe we should wait for another block to come out, or what?
I plan on playing Standard and FNM in a few months (currently a noob).
In terms of value, Zendikar is generally seen as a better deal because of fetchlands.
But if you're just using the cards for Standard/FNM and not drafting, it's better to just buy singles instead of getting a box.
Well we are all just starting with maybe one themed deck from scars(personally I have a rise of eldrazi one). Our cards are limited and I figured we'd all accumulate enough to make decks and trade.

The chance of pulling enough trade fodder or cards that you want to use is very slim when buying a box as opposed to buying the same money's worth of singles. Unless you pull a good foil mythic, it's unlikely that you make profit.
If you buy a box, open all the boosters, and take inventory of every single card you opened, odds are very good that you could've bought that exact list of cards as singles for less than the box's price.
Open some zendikar, have some fun with it, and infuse a couple more fetchlands and whatnot into the market.
It isn't as good a value as buying singles, but if it is also an evening's entertainment, that's worth something.
Strangely enough, aside from having more valuable cards than other boxes, zendikar can also set you up for some more budget standard decks. Vampires, RDW, and Boros can all start with a couple zendikar cards.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
