this is probably going to sound like a advertisement but heres something i wanted to get off my chest:
I'm very impressed by this deck - an all foil sliver deck put together by WotC. My girlfriend bought it a while ago and it has since become one of the most powerful decks in our house.
I wouldn't say its a new persons deck because the strategy involved is a bit in depth (these slivers aren't hill giants or craw wurms.) But if youre someone who wants to roll with the big dogs but doesn't want to spend a lot of money then this sliver deck is probably your best investment. a few cards in it could probably be changed for something better, but for the most part its pretty well put together
What really impressed me was its ability to compete against something like my necro deck that i play daily - it runs strip mines, demonic tutors, nantuko shades. It's beefy yet i still have problems against the sliver deck and have found that the best way is to run a deck that has 4 copies each of: contagion, spinning darkness, doom blade, terror, and innocent blood.
land destruction and hand disruption just doesn't stop the slivers from being casted. its really amazing how this deck holds up and the synergy it has. Sure the other decks wizards puts out are decent and have synergy but not like this one.
good buy, happy gf, i can now play against her with better decks. Anyone else have experiences with this deck feel free to add something. were you impressed? were you not?
I really disliked that they not only didn't put Sliver Queen in it, but didn't put four copies of certain cards. It's a real middle finger to the playerbase to buy a second copy of the $20-35 product, or buy more singles on the secondary market to complete their new 'deck' or collection or playset.
This is coming from someone who got it as a gift. quite disappointing.

In a way i have to disagree with you because ive played against this deck straight out of the box, no changes, and its pretty good. I could see a few cards where they could have picked a better alternate, but for the most part its a pretty overwhelming deck.
Like i said earlier, i play a Necropotence deck daily and its pretty beefed up, yet this Sliver deck can still give me a run for the money. I also play a Pox deck and same thing.
So id say for what you get, and what someone wants out of it, its pretty good. It'd be definitely worth it to invest in a few more cards for alternates, maybe even fix up the manabase of the deck a bit.
One of the reasons there weren't any four-ofs, and the main reason I got it, was because of the huge number of slivers it contained that had never before been foiled, or printed in the new frame.
I felt the foiling was a nice touch but at the same time - if im going to edit the deck with other Slivers, they probably arent going to be foiled, so i'd end up with a deck that is part foil and part not which kinda ruins that whole part of buying this. Me personally it doesnt bother me one bit, im not into foils but my girlfriend is having troubles keeping the entire deck foiled.dd
also, What Slivers out of the deck do you think are key to its success? I've been considering it for a while and i think its the Gemhide Slivers which really give it an advantage. I cant count how many times ive Terror'd a decent Sliver, only to have them cast a Gemhide Sliver the next turn while i sit there with no removal for this new threat. I think i said earlier, the best way to fight this deck is to have a fistfull of creature removal: Terror, Doom Blade, Spinning Darkness, Diabolic Edict, Innocent Blood, etc etc.
I found this deck to be pretty good to play with, and indeed powerful for casual
However, I hated how the foils looked. They weren't nearly as bad as Garruk Vs. Liliana foils, but they still looked terribly unclear, and the paper they were printed on looked kitchen foil-y. Also, they're way thicker than regular cards.
Hah! So I'm not insane! It's hard to tell the difference side-by-side (I compared a Time Spiral foil Gemhide Sliver), but they definitely look silverier and, I dunno, colder than most foils.
Colder? I experimented earlier today by placing one of the Slivers from the deck onto my stomach, and by placing a random card from Arabian Nights. Both cards were not cold on my stomach. I then placed the Sliver into the fridgerator, and the other card in the fridgerator. After a hour i took them out and redid the experiment, again both were the same temperature on my stomach.

Wait... Wat? I don't think that Dunjohn meant literally colder, like temperature wise, I think he meant it figurativly as in colours and such.
At any rate, in response to the initial question: I HATED the deck and felt like they could have done so much more with it. Why? Simply because they gave you a total of four (YES, FOUR) playable cards for your competitive/"Spike" Sliver deck: 1x Crystalline Sliver, 2x Muscle Sliver, 1x Winged Sliver. Not to be a Debby-downer, but the rest of the deck was filled with a lot of clutter, nonsense and garbage. Again, coming from the more Spikish/economical/nostalgic perspective, I feel really cheated out of what could have been a great product. I started playing Magic against Slivers, so I have a long (pre-Onslaught) history with the critters, but this deck doesn't do close to doing them justice - especially looking at Legacy Countersliver builds (which themselves have a bit of a history to them).
Even for my "casual", 5-colour, fun appeal they still filled this deck with rubbish. Consider the highlights of the rubbish included:
1x Armor Sliver
1x Barbed Sliver
1x Amoeboid Changeling
1x Fury Sliver
2x Metallic Sliver
2x Spectral Sliver
1x Might Sliver
2x Virulent Sliver
1x Aphetto Dredging
1x Coat of Arms
1x Wild Pair
...I seriously have no idea why these 14 cards are even in this deck. These are only highlighting the REALLY terrible cards in the deck that just shouldn't be in there and omits the subpar things. These cards are either really restirctive in terms of mana cost (ex. Fury Sliver) or just simply are useless in comparison to the other cards out there (ex. Metallic Sliver). Seriously, Coat of Arms as a rare? Elves, Goblins, Merfolk, Fungus, etc. are laughing at you. The casting cost of 5 is also laughing at you.
Clearly the Crystalline comes out ahead (stopping all spot removal, amongst other things, is very good and clearly a huge advantage over most decks), but to add in totally contradictory strategies is just extreme dissapoint as far as I'm concerned. This is especially true if someone is new at the game and trying to just play a consistant deck. These four examples alone illustrate three totally different strategies that leave you scratching your head as to why all of them are in the deck. Crystalline Sliver (and btw, it's without question the most powerful Sliver in the game that makes the tribe Legacy "viable" and they only included one? REALLY? RAGEEEE!!!!!!!) means that your Sliver Overlord can't steal creatures. Virulent Sliver looks to win via poison which is a totally different strategy. Wild Pair works better in some sort of deck focusing on abusing it specifically - pump slivers especially really screw with how useful it is and it's also hurt because of the MASSIVE mana cost.
My final gripe comes in the form that G is pushed so heavily to try and soothe an otherwise terrible mana-base/strategy (or that's how it seems to me). Gemhide Sliver appears to be some sort of godsend when, in reality, it's terrible after people start to get good at the game and figuring out how to shut an opponent down. When Gemhide gets nuked by removal (and it will) shortly thereafter your mana base often tanks or it at least makes the 48174981 grosely overcosted spells in the deck total deadweight. Including even a single Aether Vial (maybe even two!) would have at least made up for some of the value of this deck, offered a viable strategy to go off of (as opposed to Gemhide Sliver which only appears viable until you find the "Removal" button).
My final thoughts: What kind of deck is this even supposed to be? With so many contradictions and lacking so many elements I fail to see the purpose of playing this deck as is. If it's supposed to be a fun 5-colour deck I understand, but it feels like they could have done SO much more, even by changing up 10-15 cards to other common/uncommon choices that wouldn't have screwed up the secondary market. With so many different parts of aggro, contro and combo (and of course complete garbage) I feel just so utterly let-down.
Seriously, toss in a few cards that are a little more valuable/nostalgic/useful and you've have had me sold. I mean, for $10 less (?) Duel Decks: Elspeth V. Tezzeret includes a copy of Elspeth, Knight-Errant, Mishra's Factory, 2x Swords to Plowshares and Tezzeret the Seeker amongst a whole host of other fun, nostalgic and often useful other cards (Thoughtcast, Steel Overseer, Razormane Masticore, Thirst for Knowledge, etc.). These cards all appeal to a wide variety of decks which you can make (competitive and casual). Not to mention that EvT comes with two decks for teaching people how to play...
Premium Decks: Slivers did absolutly nothing close to what EvT did for me: PD:Slivers merely tossed me four already common cards that could be used in exactly one "competitive" Legacy deck and foiled them for me - again, I am very dissapoint.
I have my hopes up for Fire/Lightning because the Sliver deck was a total letdown for me - even on nostalgic, non-Legacy grounds they could have included the Sliver Queen to make old players grin a little at what was once one of the nastiest creatures in the game (at least casually).
I was about to go to bed but im so happy to see your response Matchbox, this was exactly the kind of post i was hoping for. I can tell youve really examined the deck, so no dont be sad, im not, im thrilled because this deck can only be made better. If you want to go into specifics for rebuilding this deck, like a decklist or whatever, go ahead because you seem to be the expert on this from your post. Especially the Aether Vial, good suggestion.
And the worst part? It sets a godawful precedent for Fire and Lightning. Seriously, if Fire and Lightning is of the same deckbuilding quality as Slivers, expect to see Spark Elemental and Lava Dart and flippin' Zap.

I'm not saying that you need to have the Legacy decklist to have it preform well. I play a 5-colour casual variant at times and it's a blast to play. But in both cases it makes the Premium deck look like a joke. Basically, it comes down to fundamentals: Consistancy, card advantage/quality, curve, resiliance, tempo, colour fixing, etc. The Premium deck lacks in most areas. I'm not saying that the sealed, precon deck needs the BEST CARDS EVER or even an exact port of the legacy cards, but seriously, for the MSRP of the deck it'd be nice if it came with something like: 2x Aether Vial, 2-4x Condemn, 2-4x Mana Leak, etc. Maybe even focusing less on the R and B slivers which are typically terrible, including fewer just downright BAD slivers and really focusing consistancy by running something like 3-4x Crystalline Sliver, 3-4x Muscle Sliver, 3-4x Sinew Sliver, etc. Even add some fun stuff like 2-4x Talon Sliver or 2-4x Plated Sliver in there. Also, 1x Sliver Queen - nostalgia me please!!
Anyways, that's my drunken rant for the night, I'm far to drunk to make a makeshift decklist, and, to be honest, it'd likely be close to the Countersliver list with some changes to make it more interactive and budget/multiplayer friendly. I can, however, almost guantee you that it would include 4x Crystalline Sliver and 4x Aether Vial as I'm still a Spike at heart (Also: I realize Aether Vial is a little pricey, but seriously, you'll likely use it in an obscene amount of decks, I know I sure do, it's the appropriate one-size fits all Spike solution to everything).

I really disliked that they not only didn't put Sliver Queen in it, but didn't put four copies of certain cards.
Sliver Queen is on the reserve list, if it wasn't Wizards would've been crazy to not put it in as it would likely fly off shelves with the Queen included.
Agreed that the queen wasn't included because she is on the reserve list. I bought the deck because it is a great base to start an EDH deck. As a competitive deck however it is sorely lacking. But that doesn't surprise me because when is the last time a good preconstrucked deck came out? Never.
Sliver Queen is on the reserve list, if it wasn't Wizards would've been crazy to not put it in as it would likely fly off shelves with the Queen included.
Then again, as per the rules according to the reserve list that are valid until the end of this year, cards on the reserve list could be printed as foils. That's what allowed wizards to put a phyrexian negator on the Phyrexia Vs. The Coalition duel deck. So it's not really an excuse to avoid putting a sliver queen on the all-foil deck.
And look what it got them: WotC's legal department giving them a very quick "fix that loophole right the ☺☺☺☺ now!" order and the inability to sneak in new reprints abusing the "premium" loophole (which originally meant oversize cards as it was written before "premium" meant "foil normal-sized cards") ever again.
The deck construction decisions make a lot more sense if you think of the deck as an EDH starter kit. Take out the duplicates of nonbasic lands and you're 50/100 for an EDH deck, and Sliver Overlord is a better general than Sliver Queen anyways because its tutoring ability is hyper-relevant in the format. This makes a ton of sense when you look at the fact that a lot of the slivers in the deck hadn't been printed in modern frames or foil before, and pimping out decks is more of a big deal in EDH (in part, I think, because it's easier to get foil copies of individual cards than it is to get foil copies of entire playsets of cards). Moreover, a lot of the "filler" slivers become more useful in EDH simply because you need the high creature count in a tribal EDH deck and, as popular as slivers are, they don't have the same selection that elves and goblins and the like have.
On the one hand, I'm very happy that they made this Sliver deck. Sliver's need more love in Magic. I don't think I'm actually going to go out of my way to purchase this deck, but it's nice to see an all foil Sliver deck released. I would of liked for it to have more playsets of Slivers instead of just limited amounts, but Wizards seems to have a hard time grasping the idea of an actual "useful" deck, even in a casual setting, and moreso wants to jam as many different 1X of different cards as they can each time.

I'm happy that you're girlfriend is very happy with the Sliver deck, but you've already said that you go easy on her in another thread. So please...refrain from going into detail about how a sealed sliver deck stomps your decks when you don't even try hard. It's misleading to the power of the deck.
I have my hopes up for Fire/Lightning because the Sliver deck was a total letdown for me - even on nostalgic, non-Legacy grounds they could have included the Sliver Queen to make old players grin a little at what was once one of the nastiest creatures in the game (at least casually).
My sad, depressing, angry two cents.
Isn't Sliver Queen at minimum a $25 card, and on average, $40? I know EvT had Elspeth, but the newer art and renewed text made the EvT version actually worth LESS than the real thing so that's hardly a counter example. And then you make Sliver Queen a foil version, then you're really talking about a money card. They wouldn't have to have MSRP be for any other cards, you buy the crappy Sliver deck just to get foil Sliver Queens and sell them on Ebay. So although I agree with your assessement for the most part, I have to disagree with you having some form of hope that Sliver Queen was going to see print. I shared that hope, but also knew it was a naive one.

Swords to Plowshares?
Counterspell?
Mana Leak?
Diabolical Edict?
Lightning Bolt?

Condemn?
Ponder?

These are a variety of options from all over the budget spectrum. It's easy to slot in a few $0.50 cards, make the deck stronger and not totally screw with the secondary market. Again, I was very dissapointed.

For the Legacy competitive version I'd head over here:
http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=151099
There's some dicussion, decklists, general ideas, etc.
