Starting to get really nostalgic since the art for Dominaria is being previewed at PAX Unplugged.
Wondering what we can expect & hope for that makes an appearance, with new spins and aged with traces of grace and rot...
I hope we see (not as reprints, but different versions since much time has passed):
[PLACES]
The Pendrell Vale
Cathedral of Serra
Adventurer's Guildhouse
City of Shadows
Gaea's Cradle
Hammerheim
Icatia
Havenwood
Karakas
Mountain Stronghold
Pendelhaven
Seafarer's Quay
Tolaria
The Unholy Citadel
Now, I'm not to hip on what characters from sets of Dominaria from the past will make a return. Do we have any guesses about what legendary beings from Legends survived, who make sense to still be around? The "banding w/ legends" common lands from Legends have a chance to be something special (if WotC chooses). There is so much back story, characters, monsters, places to visit, that it must've been tough to figure out what to add while still bringing a fresh story to the table.
So, here are two things to ponder and guess, places and beings. What is everyone's 2 cents?
I think Jaya Ballard is confirmed. I'd be surprised if there were not a reference to Marit Lage.
As far as non-legendaries, I think kavu are indigenous to the plane. I would love to see the return of Kavu Titan and kicker (and Urza's Rage, although Urza is dead DEAD).
It would probably be a good time to bring back pain lands, or at least some of the places they reference.
Well, pretty much everything on old Dominaria was ravaged by the time crisis, we will see new versions of nothing
Cathedral of Serra - possible in New Benalia;
Adventurer's Guildhouse,Mountain Stronghold,Seafarer's Quay,The Unholy Citadel: These were not specific and/or unique geographic places.
City of Shadows - might actually be restored in some way, if Jaya is back and Jodah possibly as well.
Icatia, Havenwood - both on Sarpadia, that was basically overrun by thallids and thrulls long before the Invasion. Thrulls basically ruled the continent, thallids never evolved beyond brutes with rudimentary sentience.
Karakas, Pendelhaven - possible, as we (and Wizards) were never told their exact placement.
Hammerheim - quite possible, as it is on North Aerona close to Keld, and we have seen Hammerheim Deadeye.
Gaea's Cradle - was on Argoth, destroyed along with the island during the Brothers' War
Tolaria - obliterated, along with the Tabernacle in Pendrell Vale, that was located there.
If Jaya was brought back, it would be a travesty if they do not give Jodah a card. There is so much potential in those two reuniting. Especially because Jodah is ageless but Jaya was made mortal (and aging) again by the Mending.
Jhoira is definitely a possibility, because she, like Jodah, is basically ageless (resp. aging VERY, VERY slowly). Last we seen her basically joining Jodah as his gf, so reemergence of Jaya has again quite interesting consequences.
So is Teferi, because he always was a temporal mage and if someone found a way to cheat time and aging by magic means, it is him.
Something from Otaria, maybe the Kamahlite druids.
The fate of Multani - as far as we know, he was not killed when closing Yavimayan rift, but his power was so depleted that it could take centuries to recover.
Radha, being a half-elf, might have more longevity than an usual human (and especially Keldon :-)) she is quite possible to be seen again.
New Benalia, Llanowar, Tolaria West are pretty much given.
And there is also half a globe we have not seen yet. Tamingazin. Corondor...
I'd absolutely love to see some different versions of the old Weatherlight crew.
I know I know, they are gone at this point in the story.
We got a new, quite good Mirri, Weatherlight duelist card in C17.
I know it would be impossible to make a new Tahngarth, Sisay, Hanna, Gerrard etc. in DOM, but some kind of homage would be nice.
Maybe they could give us an actually good Gerrard card in a supplemental product.
I expect Jhoira, Teferi, Jaya (Basically confirmed).
New Benalia is going to be sweet.
They could take the story anywhere, heres to hoping they do something sweet with the original Plane.
Sisay and Tahngarth, I could see having descendants. Squee should still be around thanks to his Phyrexian regeneration device. Kinda sucks that most of our heroes didn't have a happy ending after Invasion block.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Well that was the point. The Invasion War was... bad. It was a horrible thing for everyone on Dominaria. And Sisay and Gerrard alike were just weapons in that war - Urza wasn't exactly planning for happy endings to the Bloodline Project.
Sisay at least survived. Say, you don't suppose that lady in armor is her descendant...?

i'm much more excited about returning mechanics and creature types than specific characters.
COME ON CEPHALIDS. kavus are a real nostalgia bomb for me too. people really really really hated the evolved slivers of shandalar. i personally don't care about slivers but dominaria might be the right place to set things right with sliver fans. a couple of atogs could be nice for my atogatog edh deck. i'm not sure if metathran still exist but they are visually very memorable. another volver cycle would be neat.
What would make the Return to Dominaria great? Well, it basically comes down to this: Wooly Kavu, Snow Lands, the enemy zendikar fetchlands OR the filter lands, Slivers, Thallids, and as many returning characters from Time Spiral as humanly possible. I don't care if we need to find some long lost cousin to Volrath doing some crazy plot, but if they throw all of that into the set, it's going to be freaking amazing.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Cephalids, Nantuko, Kavu, Viashino, Thrulls, Thallids, Homarids, etc.
I want to see WotC's Dominaria, not soldier-merfolk-zombie-goblin-elf world again.
Silly question time: Was the Weatherlight destroyed?
Yes, during the final battle over Urborg. I believe that Venser had been studying some of the wreckage prior to the events of Scars of Mirrodin.
Speaking of which... wasn't Venser about to built a fleet of new ships with planar travel capabilities (earning himself a stearn talking to and almost being suffocated from Koth)? That seems like a plot thread that might be picked up now that Nicol Bolas has an army with the capability of planar travel himself.

I've been thinking and this might be a little less Baseless, but with Ixalan-block back around the corner I could see any of the tribes making their comeback. I could see Vodalians, a clan of local Sengir Vampires, skyship Pirates from the Talas, and leftover Allosaurus from before the Ice Age...
