Yeah, we are 7 months away from a truly "iconic" best-of set. What does community think Wizards will consider to be "iconic?" The FTV's and ______ Masters sets already have classic and memorable reprints. So this begs the question: What is iconic? This is purely baseless speculation that is 7 months out, but it will be interesting to read what some/many of you think should be in this set.
I am guessing that at least a third will have new art.
This is the start of my spec targets )feel free to agree or disagree - but let me know why):
An after thought - wonder if it will all be reprints, or will we travel back in time (not like Time Spiral) and get planeswalkers of old, like Urza (were there any others?)
The problem is everyone will define 'Iconic' differently. I'm certain that most of us will disagree with many things Wizards considered 'Iconic' enough to put in this set.
Hurloon Minotaur was the face of Magic for years and a case could be made that it is "Iconic' to some of us old timers, while new players won't see anything Iconic about it.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
An entire set comprised of artwork that utilizes Yawgmoth's Mask, Coalation Sigils, Ravnican Guild symbols, and any other icon bound to the lore.
Well played Wizards.
Good points. I can see the above mentioned ideas being found on the plains they belong to though. I can imagine the outcry and confusion by the Boros Signet finding it's way onto a Shivan Dragon or something Yawgmoth or Urbog-ish regarding black magic on the plane of Ravnica (unless they created another Time Spiral-esque block in which one plane invades another plane - but that sounds like "jumping the shark" - so to speak.
The "iconic" creatures, from the above list that fall short are Hydras & Sphinxes. There are other iconic creatures types that can be reprinted, such as merfolk, elves, goblins, soldiers, knights, spirits, zombies, horrors, giants, minotaurs, and clerics.

Those are characteristic races not iconic. Horrors or Giants a case could be made for.
The other iconics are Elementals, vampires, and 'sea monster' aka Kraken, leviathan (serpent), octopus...

(U/B) is :symbu: or :symub: and the same is true for the other 9 hybrid symbols with their two colors in for the last 2 leters of the code. ((2/B) and co are :sym2b:)
Alternatively {UB} or {2B} in [mana] tags are (U/B) or (2/B) T is :symtap: and T will give T in [mana] tags
Each color has only one iconic. Angels, sphinxes, demons, dragons, and hydras.
I'm not sure if it would just be iconic creatures, though, just because we already had a FTV: Dragons. But it could be iconic creatures and things that "feel" like iconic creatures, e.g. Demonic Pact would feel pretty damned demonic (pardon the pun) even if it didn't have "demonic" in the name.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
With "iconic" being explained as the creature types....... disappointing.
I am thrown for a loop due to rarity breakdown, $10 packs and desirability.
Will this be a junk set with a couple high dollars tossed in?
Some other theme may have to run secondary for it to be a seller.
I would have preferred "Royal_Assassins" list including the tap killer himself along with LoA and mostly things from vintage that aren't on the RL and with ORIGINAL ARTS but alas.....
"Iconic Masters offers players a tour through some of the most powerful cards in over 23 years of Magic history. Featuring new artwork on many cards, the set brings an array of massive Angels, Sphinxes, Demons, Dragons, and Hydras alongside some of our favorite and most memorable spells. Every box of Iconic Masters contains 24 booster packs—each with fifteen randomly inserted game cards, including one premium card in every pack. Get your friends together to embark on one of the most iconic and power-packed Draft experiences yet!" - Wizards of the Coast product page
It's pretty clear this set will be iconic creatures + notable spells. Said notable spells will likely receive new artwork depicting said iconic creatures. And to help support the theme, we'll also see tribal support for iconics such as Kaalia of the Vast and Cavern of Souls. Dragons in particular are going to have fun in this set as they have many options for tribal support ranging from the humble Dragonlord's Servant and Dragonspeaker Shaman to the mighty Scourge of Valkas and Utvara Hellkite. Find your Dragons with Sarkhan's Triumph, and speed them into battle with Dragon Tempest.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Despite the "23 years" line, I'm guessing it's going to skew heavily towards modern design, and especially recent modern design, because "we all know that for so long, creatures just didn't measure up".

Healing Salve is the white "original threes' so I guess it should be included. Along with Giant Growth, Lightning Bolt, Dark Ritual, and we can sub in Ancestral Visions.

So, w/ those "iconic creatures" I see:
ANGELS
DEMONS
DRAGONS
HYDRAS
SPHINX

This greatly supports my sentiment that Hydras are a horrible choice to be Green's iconic creature type. Look how sad that list is.
There are many, many more memorable Treefolk, I can tell you that much.
