It might be possible that the helms worn by the Amonkhet gods might not have heads inside. This is pretty obvious with the "Blue" or Crane God depicted in the early artwork.
Since this plane is under the control of Nicol Bolas, it is likely that these "all-powerful" beings are simply puppets of his will. The best way to remove free will would be to start with the head and replace it with a charismatic and iconic helmet.
Now it's not a new theory that Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is from Amonkhet given his style of clothing. There might be a connection to his vaporous cranium and the gods of Amonkhet. I would propose that at one time Ashiok was going to ascend and be bestowed with godhood by Nicol Bolas but once he learned what that would entail, he attempted to planeswalk away. Ashiok was not quick enough and the process was partially completed leaving him with only a philtrum, mouth, and possibly ears. This would be a gruesome origin story indeed but not one I would expect to see revealed until Hour of Devastation.
Ashiok has indian/central asian aesthetic, not Egyptian. There is no correlation. If by some inane reason WotC decides that Ashiok is from Amonkhet, the persons who did the research and made the decision should be fired.

There are far better reasons to fire someone from WoTC than slightly misrepresenting a style of clothing *cough*Smuggler's Copter*cough*. Also, Karla Ortiz probably didn't know about Amonkhet when she was commissioned for the artwork so she may have drawn influence from other regions.
Planeswalkers are also not obligated to wear garb typical of their home plane. Take Gideon for example.
Also, Ashiok was drawn to Theros because of the devotion and belief the denizens had there for that plane's gods and the effects that faith had on the Nyx realm. He sought to use his nightmare magic to create a twisted reflection of the faith Therosians had in their gods. Perhaps Ashiok is bitter about his experiences with the Amonkhet pantheon and seeks to undermine the faith on another plane.
I mean, fun theory, but Occam's razor says those are the Gods' heads.
And if the deification process leaves you headless, where did Ashiok get the, uh, upper structure of their face? There's no room for weird horns in the ibis helmet either.

My point being that Ashiok has a specific aesthetic, which is clearly not Egyptian, thus if the person in charge of deciding to make Ashiok Amonkhetian, they have completely and utterly failed at their job and as such should be fired, as should the person approving it, as they clearly have no clue what they are doing.
Note, this is not saying that he can't show up in Amonkhet block (but three black aligned walkers may be stretching it), just that there is no way in Hades that Amonkhet is his homeplane unless someone, somewhere, severely failed at their job.

Or maybe their heads are that way because they're magical god-beings, and they don't have to follow your silly rules of how biology works, and you're just reading too much into this whole thing.
It's been mentioned consistently that Ashiok's clothing is a mockery of popular styles worn in Theros. As much as I'd like to see a return of Ashiok, I believe that we already have a full cast already for this block.

You think? A full cast?
We got two Gatewatch members in set 1 as is to be expected. I assume there will always be exactly two and the rest will receive no cards (even if they are in the story). There is no doubt about Nicol Bolas showing up (set 2).
But that seems to be somehow (at least) one short of a full cast. Maybe a (partially) green planeswalker to make the color less sad. A native planeswalker (Bolas being from Dominaria does not count), maybe? We don't know much about that color or storyline characters but I'll take Snake/Naga from what we've seen. Maybe there's that local lieutenant to Bolas - a servant recruited from the crop of the initiates.

Theory that Ashiok is an *aetherborn* at least made some sense. This does not.
Did that theory even make sense? Aetherborn have blank bottom halves of their faces and visible top halves with eyes. Ashiok has the literal opposite of that.
I don't think Ashiok has any connection with the gods.
But I am open to the possibility that Bolas decapitated 4/5 of the gods and through artifice/magic puppeteers them.
Out of the 5 gods, perhaps Bontu didn't need such overt means. Just a display of superiority and a tiny share in that power.

Elves on Lorwyn have hooves and antlers. Merfolk on Theros have long spined fins all down their back. Goblins on Tarkir are round and furry. I for one think Ashiok is Aetherborn since they are stylistically very similar. Ashiok would just be an aetherborn from a different plane than Kaladesh.

I was being sarcastic, I admit. For me, it was ever a nonsense. But at least someone could have drawn similarities between the black smoke in both cases. This theory has even weaker basis, if any.

First, ehat about it is specifically "not Egyptian," or further, what about it IS eastern Asian/Indian? And why does that matter, outside of your opinion which you obviously take very seriously since you won't even take the time to consider the other options. Honestly, I have no idea what aesthetic you are referring to.
Second, why would there be "Indian" aesthetic in "Greece". I'm sure there is some influece in real life, but not as much as Egyptian influence, since they are literally closer in proximity, just across the sea from each other. Leading to my third point...
Doesn't it make at least some sense to have Egyptian and Greek themes cross? We have the whole Cleopatra and Alexander the great thing. There's literally Alexandria in freaking Egypt. Their cultures are very much intertertwined.
It's really not that big of a stretch. Honestly, I think it's great connecting the dots. I think that person did their job, and I also think calling for their firing is headstrong, unrealistic, and insensitive to the human being who happened to make the design.

He was in Greece because Ashiok is a planeswalker who went there. Theros is not Ashiok's home plane. Secondly, there is Ashiok's name. A planeswalkers name gives you a decent idea of what culture the planeswalker comes from, Ashiok, like Chandra, has an Indian (as in the country/subcontinent) name, not an Egyptian one. Thus it is logical to assume that Ashiok comes from a plane that has a, shockingly enough, culture which in the real world is relegated to the Indian subcontinent.
Ashiok may or may not (personally I doubt it, as it would make three black and three blue) planeswalkers) be in Hour of Devastation, but Ashiok is not from Amonkhet.
