I was hopeful for cards that had an alternative casting cost using energy, but sadly it doesn't seem we will get that. I can't tell you how badly I wanted a Force of Will variant relying on energy as the alternative. Maybe we will get that in Aether Revolt. One thing is for sure, I wish energy would be a theme carried over into other sets into the future. I like the concept.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
If it were happening in Kaladesh we would have seen it by now. It could happen in Aether Revolt. But it will deffinitely be an alternate cost rather than just a replacement for the mana cost. Also a Force of Will variant with energy would cost like 10 or 12 energy and would be unplayable.
Wizards can be pretty predictable when it comes to new mechanics. For example I wouldn't be surprised to see a Drain Life variant that drains energy counters as well as life or gives you a choice.

It wouldn't have to be that high. Even 6 energy means you need to build a deck around building energy to make it playable. Imagine for a moment a near identical FOW but add on having to spend 5 energy to cast it. Would it be too powerful? 5 energy, 1 life and exiling a blue card just to counter a spell isn't game breaking and I doubt it would ever make it into modern either. Standard would be the only place it would have a shot at being playable.

You really don't understand how Wizards looks at FoW do you? At PAX they said five energy would draw you one card. How much do you think a free counterspell is worth?
I don't know but a U/G energy deck with aetherworks marvel and panharmonicon and puzzle knots, with the efficient better than 1:1 cards for energy SHOULD be a deck

Four energy draws you one card. Considering that FoW is also a minus one and this version would be essentially unplayable in everything but a dedicated energy deck (which is going nowhere except standard and maybe commander), I could see his suggesting costing 4 or 5 energy. 4 especially if the spell costs U with an additional cost of using 4 energy, which it probably should. So: U and EEEE, counter target spell.

Force of Will is the single most broken counterspell WotC have ever printed because it can be played on your opponents first turn before you have taken your first. There is a reason why they tried to fix it (and failed horribly) three times before giving up. Free counterspells are a no-go. And that includes counterspells that can go in any deck without the need for blue.
WotC is extremely unlikely to ever print a card that only requires energy to cast unless the effect is so generic, and so weak, that the card is effectively unplayable.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Well I did say that it should probably cost U with EEEE (or maybe EEEEE) as an additional cost. And I said that for precisely those reasons. Decks shouldn't have access to it without running blue, it shouldn't be completely free and it shouldn't be available before you even have mana.

Probably end up UUEEE if they print such a counterspell, but I still think it is unlikely to happen. I just don't think energy as a casting cost is going to happen.

I think it would be worth 5 energy, exiling a card from your hand and 1 life. I already stated that. Anyway, you think it is worth 11 or 12, and that is fine. We don't agree. Time to move on.

In a word: No.
In more words: No we will not, because representatives from WotC have told us we will not.

It would be Force of will esc way
They aren't tokens, they are counters. There is no permanent to target. It'd be like trying to Boomerang poison counters.
