So we know there's another 24 Kaladesh Inventions on the way in Aether Revolt, and some are pretty easy to guess (the remaining two swords, probably Blightsteel Colossus and Darksteel Colossus) but are there any other cards you're itching to see get that treatment? I'd love to see Mycosynth Lattice because the price is creeping up and the old art is sort of boring and hard to understand. Arcbound Ravager could look great with Kaladeshi art, and a Darksteel Forge would be pretty cool as well. Spellskite is probably another shoe-in, and Master Transmuter is probably number one on my list. Or Steel Hellkite maybe?
I think we can rule out Norn's Annex, Sensei's Divining Top, Karn, Silver Golem and Soul of New Phyrexia among others because Mark called out Umezawa's Jitte for being a no-go due to plane specific naming. I mean, by that argument technically Blightsteel and Darksteel Colossus would be out of the running too but Darksteel as a concept has been in so many core sets it's kind of evergreened itself out.
What do you guys think?
inb4 "the announcement was just yesterday and you're already impatient for more MTG players are never satisfied smh" just having fun seeing what people are hoping for
I completely disagree that Darksteel being in core sets gives it an out for flavor. Core sets took flavor from any and all planes, that was the point of them. Darksteel is still very much tied to Mirrodin/New Phyrexia. That said, Blightsteel might be ok since that was more of a riff on it's original name and not a specific type of material like Darksteel is. Idk. Mycosynth and Arcbound are also unique to Mirrodin. Arcbound may be generic enough to pass, though, since it could easily be an adjective describing the thing rather than a noun for a specific material like Darksteel and Mycosynth.
I'm pretty sure all the cards mentioned in the OP, with the exception of Steel Hellkite, are too location-specific.
True with the exception of Master Transmuter who would easily fit in, you need to account only for the name, not what it looked like the last time it was printed. Even then - aetherium hand? It's the aether plane with Tezz on it.
Besides being part etherium, my main issue with Master Transmuter is that it's a human. Probably against the rules in an invention contest.

Karn, Silver Golem isn't going to happen for another reason: He's on the Reserved List.
That said, we can be guaranteed that we will get the remaining twoswords in Aether Revolt. I am also thinking any of the following:
I'd like to see some more unusual masterpieces. Good cards that perhaps don't see much play in competetive formats but are casual favorites like Mirror Gallery, Mesmeric Orb, Thrumming Stone, and Eon Hub to name a few.
Generally, we're looking for cards that A) don't warp limited too much, and B) fit within a relatively peaceful plane (though maybe not so much if the next set is about a mass revolt?)
My guesses:
5 Aether Revolt
2 Swords
Oblivion stone
Winter Orb
Trinisphere
Thorn of Amethyst
Wurmcoil Engine
Engineered Explosives
Staff of Domination
Mindslaver
Pyromancers Googles (almost a must)
Chalice of the Void
Isochron Scepter
Platinum Angel
Meekstone
Memory Jar
Spellskite
Magebane Armor works beautifully with the Consulate's ban on nonartifice magic; of course they'd design armor that's resistant to pyromancy! Might even be what saved Baral's life when Chandra ignited.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Pyromancer's Goggles are actually Jaya Ballard's goggles, though. Unless Chandra took them and brought them to Kaladesh, I wouldn't expect them to show up.

You are of course aware that Chandra has a pair of her own, right? And that they could easily flavor them as hers. Heck, nearly every young pyromancer on Regatha have a pair in honor of Jaya (and Chandra).

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

Sure, but I think the idea of legendary things is that they represent a unique identity, not a unique conceptual object. Except for Brothers Yamazaki.

Legendary cards can also depict items that are only one of on any given plane (such as Mox Opal). Unless the legendary card has a personal name (such as Umezawa's Jitte or Gaea's Cradle), then it can be the latter.

Actually, in that case, my theory was that Tezzeret might have brought the Mox Opal from Mirrodin. The flavor text kind of alludes to that.

No it doesn't. All it alludes to is a "private collection", and as it's appearance is quite different, we can safely assume that it is, indeed, not the same one.

I completely disagree that Darksteel being in core sets gives it an out for flavor. Core sets took flavor from any and all planes, that was the point of them. Darksteel is still very much tied to Mirrodin/New Phyrexia.
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Darksteel cards. We also got Rings of Brighthearth reflavoured as "not THAT Brighthearth". The thing is, darksteel is, ultimately, an invention, by Memnarch if I recall correctly. It was not naturally occuring on Mirrodin either. While so far it only appeared on one plane, being something that can be invented gives it at least a chance to show up on other planes as well.
And what plane is better than showcasing incredible feats of invention and engineering than Kaladesh? If there's one place to reprint Darksteel Colossus as a masterpiece, it's either a return to Mirrodin (unlikely given its current state) or, well, Kaladesh. And considering that the Kaladesh masterpieces are all about invention, this seems to be the perfect time to do it, even if it is slightly awkward. But personally, I'd find it less awkward than, say, a mecha-scarecrow.
What are the odds we see the Diamond and/or Medallion cycles reprinted? Between the two, I'd think Medallion, but I could be wrong.

Be aware of locations please
There is no way Mycosynth lattice, or germs are going in, unless Aether revolt ends in a phyrexia invasion, but i highly doubt it.
Every invention must have some Kaladeshi way to be showed, just like they did with lightning greaves, or the mana vault...
Hence, i would suggest some o these:
-The remaining swords
-Oblivion stone (fate counters FTW^^)
-Engineered explosives
-Metalworker
-Staff of Domination
-Ensnaring bridge
-Isochronic scepter
-Panoptic mirror
-Chalice of the Void
-Vedalken Shackles
-Sunforger
And probably one portal, but i don't know which one...i'd like Door to Nothingness^^
And don't forget the slots for the Aether Revolt ones
Guys, please take a minute to look up the Reserved List.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

inb4 "the announcement was just yesterday and you're already impatient for more MTG players are never satisfied smh" just having fun seeing what people are hoping for
I'm confident we will see the other swords (Sword of War and Peace, Sword of Body and Mind).
UBRKess, Dissident MageUBR - Controlling Dissidents
GRhonas the IndomitableG - Indomitable Four Drops
WUBOloro, Ageless AsceticWUB - Loot & Renanimate
Yeah here we go. I can't stand either of the arts for Batterskull right now so I'd dig a change. Would they make a new Germ token though?
maybe engineered explosives
So 2 Swords and 5 new cards from AER are probably shoe-ins. I do think Master Transmuter and Steel Hellkite are really good options. Mindslaver, Voltaic Key, Ensnaring Bridge, Howling Mine, Icy Manipulator, Metalworker, Winter Orb, Skullclamp, Memory Jar, Staff of Domination, Proteus Staff, Mesmeric Orb and Cranial Plating would all be things I'd like to see.
Besides being part etherium, my main issue with Master Transmuter is that it's a human. Probably against the rules in an invention contest.
Karn, Silver Golem isn't going to happen for another reason: He's on the Reserved List.
That said, we can be guaranteed that we will get the remaining two swords in Aether Revolt. I am also thinking any of the following:
Gilded Lotus, Lotus Bloom, or Lotus Blossom, although Gilded is slightly more likely.
Dragon Engine, not because it is getting expensive (it isn't), but because it would look gorgeous with Kaladesh setting art.
The Tempest Medallions are likely.
Sphere of Resistance, because it is long overdue for a reprint.
Copper Gnomes, just because.
Isochron Scepter
Chalice of the Void
Platinum Angel
Armillary Sphere as the "dud"
Thorn of Amethyst
Quicksilver Amulet
Adaptive Automaton
Pyromancer's Goggles
It's going to be interesting to see how many I got right.

Numquam evolutioni obstes. Solum conculceris.
Pascite draconem, evolvite aut morimini.
Door to Nothingness may get a slot, with Rashimi, Eternities Crafter fooling around with extradimentional portals and all. On second thought, Planar Portal might also be just a likely.
I'd also like to see the Medallion cycle from Tempest get the full art treatment (Pearl Medallion, Sapphire Medallion, Jet Medallion, Ruby Medallion & Emerald Medallion)
Generally, we're looking for cards that A) don't warp limited too much, and B) fit within a relatively peaceful plane (though maybe not so much if the next set is about a mass revolt?)
5 Aether Revolt
2 Swords
Oblivion stone

Trinisphere
Thorn of Amethyst
Wurmcoil Engine
Engineered Explosives
Staff of Domination
Mindslaver
Pyromancers Googles (almost a must)
Chalice of the Void
Isochron Scepter
Platinum Angel
Meekstone
Memory Jar
Spellskite
- 5 slots reserved for Aether Revolt cards
- Defense Grid
- Ensnaring Bridge
- Etched Champion
- Etched Oracle
- Gate to the Aether
- Gilded Lotus
- Isochron Scepter
- Lightning Coils
- Magebane Armor
- Mesmeric Orb
- Mirrorworks
- Platinum Angel
- Platinum Emperion
- Steel Hellkite
- Sword of Body and Mind
- Sword of War and Peace
- Thopter Foundry
- Unwinding Clock
- Vedalken Orrery
Defense Grid and Ensnaring Bridge fit the Consulate's mandate of "maintaining order through artifice".Etched Champion and Etched Oracle wouldn't be hard to interpret with Kaladeshi flavor, certainly no more so than Painter's Servant. Platinum Angel and Platinum Emperion are slightly more iffy, but still perfectly possible.
Gate to the Aether would be a flavor slam dunk alongside Aether Vial.
Lightning is frequently harnessed on Kaladesh as a source of energy, so Lightning Coils fit like a plug.
Magebane Armor works beautifully with the Consulate's ban on nonartifice magic; of course they'd design armor that's resistant to pyromancy! Might even be what saved Baral's life when Chandra ignited.
We know dragons exist on Kaladesh, so a metallic replica of one isn't far-fetched.
The remaining two Swords are practically guaranteed.
Kaladesh has foundries where Thopters are built, so Thopter Foundry is a perfect fit.
Unwinding Clock would support Kaladesh's around-the-clock operation of automatons and utilities.
Vedalken Orrery is easily justified by the presence of Vedalken and orreries on Kaladesh.
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point."
