With the rarity these are printed at I don't see why they couldn't violate the reserved list for some of the cool older cards that aren't real pricey or overpowered but I know that cant happen.
Makes sense to be powerful spells or lands or enchantments of Destruction being the theme. Could easily see a Damnation reprint in the masterpieces or in the set itself or even BOTH
Since the focus on Amonkhet is proving oneself Worthy, perhaps the Masterpieces set will be called Amonkhet Worthy? In which case, we'd have creatures with graveyard interactions. On the other hand, it could be Amonkhet Trials, though beyond quest-style enchantments I wouldn't know how to convey that concept.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
on a tangent, how would everyone feel if the did full-art foil basic lands in every set for the masterpiece series?
These should be separate from the regular ones. (ex. 25 masterpieces plus 5 basic lands for a total of 30)
the art can be rotated from set to set to fit the theme. I would love to see them do it with the ABU basic arts.
Not Urborg, tomb of Yawgmoth, since that is a specific location on Dominaria, and the masterpiece series stuff is only stuff on the planes in question.

would anybody else think it would be cool to see the orginal elder dragons as masterpieces?

I honestly think they'll stick to card types until they finish them off, maybe instants and sorceries together, but otherwise I don't think they're going to start mixing up card types yet. I could see enchantments, instants/sorceries or maaaybe planeswalkers. Planeswalkers would obviously be huge, but I could be a little bias (see: my signature).

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is a specific location on a specific plane, and as such will not be reprinted in a masterpiece set on any plane other than that plane (Specifically, it is the place where the Father of Machines, Yawgmoth himself died, in Urborg, on Dominaria, the giant mountain in the background is Volrath's Stronghold.)

If you can't see why they can't violate the reserved list for the masterpiece series, then you need to educate yourself on it. Prior to some "collectors" (and I use the term extremely loosely) got salty about reprints from it finding themselves reprinted in limited run auxiliary products such as Duel Decks and FTV, it could have happened as they would count as "promotional", but not anymore.
since expeditions was lands, now we have artifact, i´m pretty sure enchantment is the next one (since gods are going to be in amonkhet).
i would bet on that really
pd: wow blood moon ^^
MaRo has stated that future Masterpieces need not follow a card type theme, it was just the way it worked out in Kaladesh because it made sense. In Amonkhet it could be literally anything that feels thematically appropriate (in before Genies/Efreeti).

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
I'm thinking it'll be enchantment heavy. A return of quests and traps would also seem like a good bet.
Same boat
I think enchantments is the next (exspensive or/and sought after reprints)
I'm not sure when creatures section of these happen.if kozilek is one (assuming butcher of truth) I hope they use Jamie's version of the art of kozielk, the great distortion
I mean, Amonket is Egyptian themed, You would think that they would have creatures as their (Expiditions/Invention things?)
I think that somebody pulling one of these, they would be happier if they got a creature instead of a trap....
i mean i pulled a static orb at a pptq, after i turned in my decklist, got the lands i needed for deck, couldnt even use em and wasnt really happy about pull

"The gods may not always be kind, but they do have a soft spot for the plucky underdogs."
I hold the job of resurrecting dead threads.
Formerly presumed dead, but also formerly presumed alive.
I'm confused. Is OP talking about Amonkhet or Aether Revolt? Aether Revolt is the next set in the block and will have 20 Artifacts. Amonkhet is the next block and will have some number of theme appropriate masterpieces that will likely NOT be artifacts.
If we're thinking enchantments what about stuff like doubling season or opalescence? I think opal titan might be a good flavor card for the set. If we go way back serenity would be kinda fun to play. That's just in white except for doubling season that I think would be great if they went with an enchantment theme. I'd like if they reprinted opalescence for standard play though.
I'm guessing the theme for the next block of Masterpieces will be biblical/plague or mummy/graveyard based. It won't necessarily be only a specific card type represented. I expect to see Damnation, Plague Wind, Lord of the Undead, Pestilence, Treasure Cruise, Ancient Tomb, Wasteland, and Desert.
"Trials of the Five Gods" or "Amonkhet Trials" is a possibility.
Enchantments flavored as curses. (Sulfuric Vortex for example - picture a warrior trying to pass thru the vortex)
Spells flavored as challenges. (Plague Wind or Choking Sands for example)
Creatures flavored as things to battle to be Worthy (Vengeful Pharoah or some Snake - Mystic Snake?)
If the gods are created like theros gods im sure we'll get masterpeices of each one and an enchantment or enchantment artifact to correspond with each like what whip of erebos & dictate of karametra are to the theros gods
Theres only so many high-demand non reserve list cards they can print. I dont see this being sustainable for wotc. They will run out of print equity so fast.
With that thought process, which I agree with btw, I see them printing something dumb like near death experience even though it just came out in ftv lore.
Based on the lore With the trials of the Gods in the Amonket lore i think that we are very likely to get Planeswalkers as Expeditions, Masterpeices. This is just what makes the most sense for me, but i think that alot of stuff could go wrong With Planeswalkers master peices. But if they decide to do that then, Jace, The mind Sculpter, Liliana of the veil, Karn, Ugin, Nahiri the Harbriner should all get one
and then Jace, Chandra, Nissa, Gideoen, Liliana, versjons from Magic Origins
I'm speculating enchantments. We had lands with bfz and artifacts with kld. With gods being the focus I'm betting on enchantments. I'm basing this off of theros block where the gods were enchantment creatures. It kinda makes sense. I'm just not sure which ones they'll reprint to fit the theme. Maybe something like deadbridge chant. I know it's not the greatest enchantment out there and there's some that probably fit the theme better but keep in mind ornithopter was also printed as an invention.

We did had cards on the level of Tectonic Edge and Chromatic Lantern so far, so I don't see why you'd think so.
But those cards are good to an exztend, unlike alot of traps and curses mentioned
