With many people believing Emrakul is about to be unleashed, I have been wondering what kind of card it will be. Powerful yes, but will it remain colorless? With all the color but devoid eldrazi, is it insane to think the queen of all eldrazi will actually be 5c devoid?
All I know is it would make an amazing commander for an eldrazi edh deck
I think that it's unlikely that they will make another card that requires colourless mana for a while, devoid isn't an evergreen mechanic, so I would be surprised if we saw it again any time soon. If they do reuse devoid it will almost certainly be as a major theme in another block. I would imagine they will just make a colourless card.
Devoid is a mechanic made so that not every deck play the same cards. It's also a way for the color pie to be respected and not to give powerful green effect to red mages, for example.
There is no point in having a 5 color devoid legend, when you can make him totally colorless and costing such a large amount of mana that it doesn't fit into any deck.
I agree it's highly unlikely. Just my dream however as I want to make an eldrazi edh deck with an eldrazi legendary, but if I do I can't play colored eldrazi. A colorless king of the eldrazi with 5c ability would fix that
The last legendary WUBRG creatures without a tribal theme were printed in 2009, two in deed. I'd love a new five color do-weird-stuff commander.
While they probably won't use the keyword devoid any time soon it is possible to simply print the needed effect without mentioning devoid at all. Like they've done with other keywords.

Well, WUBRG cards can do anything. And big colorless cards can do anything that's weird. Design wise they strongly overlap.
Color identity is a reason to make a card WUBRG and flavour, too.
For accuracies sake: Bane of Bala Ged does not have Annihilator 2, BoBG exiles while Annihilator lets the player sacrifice the permanents. It's actually so much worse than annihilator.
Also: Afaik you can't give keywords without using them, it gets pretty weird, some old clerics have the exact effect text of lifelink on them but not the keyword and can gain the keyword ability, which results in double lifegaining. Not that this would matter much for devoid, but well...
The lifelink thing has to do with A) When it happens (Lifelink is instant, some spiritlink abilities aren't) and B) How the ability is granted (If you have an enchantment that makes you gain life when enchanted creature deals damage, you'd get the life from an opponent's creature, rather than them getting it if it were lifelink.)
Thank you for the clarification on this. I was actually looking at the card today and was confused they didn't put annihilator on the card. I assumed it was cause it was the only card similar to annihilator in the new sets.
Noob question though, why is exile worse then sacrifice? Digging something back up from the graveyard is easier then from exile. Not trying to argue just legit confused.
Just came across this on Blogatog:
penguinpaladin asked: Where would you put Devoid on the storm scale?
It’s not really a mechanic. It’s a tool. Will we need it again? Odds are yes, but probably not anytime soon. As a deciduous mechanic, albeit a less used one, it is technically a 2.
That would imply that if indeed Emmy shows up, she will most probably be truly colorless.
Because Emrakul is moving from Zendikar to Innistrad, wouldn't it make sense that Emrakul would be printed as a Planeswalker this time?
Nope. Though they have the ability to travel through the Blind Eternities they are not Planeswalkers.
I guess a 5 color devoid card is the kind of thing that is hard to justify, is more a checkbox thing. But even if such a card get made someday I don't thing it would be Emrakul. The Eldrazi Titans are too tied to True Colorless

Doubtful, just thought I would share though.
