Something else just occurred to me. Assuming it's a mystery-themed story, that would give us a reason to get a slight bit more mileage out of 'Clue' tokens being introduced in SOI. It seems really strange they'd use them again in the next block..I don't think that's every happened.
Goddamn, that would mean another two blocks before I can once again start wishing for a block based on pirates/seafaring/tropical islands/trade/treasure chests.
Shandalar and the Onakke already cover the egyptian theme, but they could easily be thrown out like Mongseng -> Tarkir and Arhkos -> Theros
That said, this has about as much weight as me letting you all know my secret contact at WotC confirmed we are returning to Ulgrotha next block
I don't see why going to an Egyptian themed set would break up the story they are trying to tell? Isn't the whole point of having a group of planeswalking super heroes the fact that they can planeswalk to wherever they want? They could show up on an Egyptian themed world to fight some evil thing just as easily as going to Ravnica.
As for the Phyrexians, there has to be some story idea of how they get off their world. Their portals don't work anymore, so they are stuck. They can't get a spark and they've already won their war against the Mirrans (except for a small resistance). Personally, I think the next time we see the Phyrexians will be on another world and it will be a mystery how they got there instead of another visit to New Phyrexia to destroy them.
Egyptian World would be amazing. The only thing better for me would be Return to Theros, but it is far too soon for that IMO. I feel when Egypt World is done, it either will not have gods or will only have a set of 5 monochrome ones. Egypt World, like Theros and original Zendikar would feel like a more monochrome world, as Sun/River/Death/Life/Fire seem like they'd carve out the set into strict alignments to color in nature over guilds, clans or whatever else.
I don't EVER want to Return to Ravnica again. And if we absolutely must, I want to see other planes get a return set first. Especially Theros, and if I had the choice, Lorwyn and Kamigawa before RTR3 as well.
Aw man, I wished they made a plane that combines Alara's 5 shards, or worlds, with Tarkir's alternate timeline. Imagine one character from Bant. Now imagine a Esper, Grixis, Jund, and Naya versions of that same character.
Instead of one plane splitting into 5 shards, some event happened that took away 2 colors of mana, and the plane continued on, but there is some time rift, or some rift that allows someone to travel to an alternate reality where 2 other colors are missing.

The Planeswalking to wherever they want was actually the freedom the Planeswalkers had pre-Mending... not until they decided recently that the continuity should focus majorly on the Lorwyn 5 walkers and they should be involved heavily in the story and what not. So if ever there is gonna be an Egyptian world, it would have a link to the current going ons of the post-Origins Retcon Continuities.

Are people still seriously dense enough to say that enemy fetches won't be in the set? We were explicitly told that Wizards will not be doing half-cycles of lands in block sets. We got the allied fetches in Khans, couple Wizards' statement with other hints, the enemy fetches will be in Dragons. You have to be a complete idiot to believe otherwise.
Reprint of Library of Alexandria in the future?
WotC has been big on Sphinxs for a while so seeing them go for an Egyptian theme doesn't seem far fetched. I think it is far more accessible than the Japan mythology of Kamigawa block.

There are already Phyrexians on other planes. Karn spread their oil across many planes from his heart while he was planeswalking. Elsbeth came from a world with Phyrexians I believe.
The names seem suspect to me. We had Oath "of the" Gatewatch as a second set.
Fury "of the" Sand and then War "of the" Guilds. Kind of a repetitive naming method.

I don't think they can throw out Shandalar nearly as easily. The only previous references to Mongseng and Arkhos were on things like planechase cards. Shandalar has a Soul in an actual card.
I am skeptical about the authenticity of this. 4chan is hardly a reliable source, and we got a fake list of rares/mythics in EMA from /tg/ just last week. Additionally, I don't think ANY information about a block over a year in the future would be available at the moment. Knowing the exact name of the second set in the block after Innistrad is suspicious (as is knowing the exact name of the first Rav3 set), as is the whole "This storyline will be unconnected" bit.
Don't forget, with this new two block scheduling that Wotc is two years ahead correct? The Egyptian set would only be 8 months away and the Ravnica set a year. That's plenty of time to have working names. However, it can be changed later like Khans was.
I believe it. Not surprised by an Egypt set and bringing back more gods with devotion would be slick. Keep an eye out for devotion enablers in Innistrad if true. I also would be inclined to believe the Ravnica news though I am disappointed if true. I never liked Ravnica as much as everybody else, and WE WERE JUST THERE! But since WOTC seems inclined to revisit newish planes in such rapid succession lately, Zendikar, Innistrad, Ravnica it seems plausible. Not sure what they could do differently with yet another dual color set though.
