I consider this baseless speculation, we have no confirmation technically of a 2017 Modern Masters, but it would fit the pattern.
Regardless of if we should expect a 2017 Modern Masters, it is clear that any speculation about the archetypes selected to highlight and the cards printed is baseless.
That certainly depends on just how far WOTC will go through the sets for drawing cards. For the year after the Return to Innistrad, it could be nice if they went up through Innistrad for MM 2017.
MM2015 went through Scars block -- 2011 (note that M12 rotated as part of Scars block, so really through M12). Comes out 2 years later, covers two years more.
MM2017 will probably go through 2013 then (specifically M14) which adds INN and RTR blocks. I'm pressed for time, but I'll be back with an analysis of mechanics and likely themes in a couple of hours.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Hmm. I'm no expert on crafting limited environments, but I...don't think there's a suitable amount of overlap between those archetypes for drafting purposes. I do think we get BW Tokens (because Innistrad) and UR spells matter (because Delver and Izzet and Pyromancer). BG graveyard has been done, but it was the main draft theme for the combo in both of the added blocks. I'm amazed that GW Auras hasn't been done yet, though I don't know how well it synergizes with other color combos. WU...probably isn't Merfolk. Bit too narrow. Spirits, maybe? At least there's a bit more overlap there. Maybe. WR has a lot of fun aggro-y stuff in Innistrad and RTR blocks, so going wide probably fits there in some regard.
...all of which is to say, I have no goddamn idea. I want to get UR Spells Matter, though. The rest I'm indifferent about.

"The true measure of all heroes is not what they achieve, but who they inspire." —Triumph of Gerrard
WU's had some fun with artifacts and I don't see that INN or RTR would contribute a great deal to that, so perhaps Bird tribal or fliers next time? A fliers theme welcomes cards like Aven Mindcensor, Favorable Winds, and Geist of Saint Traft.
BR can draw Vampires from the two blocks most significant to the tribe to date, Zendikar and Innistrad. Failing that, BR sac with Evoke, Devour, and Morbid leading the charge. Bloodthirst/Unearth/Undying/Unleash could inspire an aggressive strategy.
RG could have Bloodthirst/Devour +1/+1 counters or landfall. Kird Ape would be a good fit for the latter.
GU ETB combos. Graft, Evolve, Soulbond, and flash/bounce/flicker make for some fun combos.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
The real question is do they make Snapcaster mythic and troll us, or leave him at rare.
What mythics are people hoping for? Tarmo and Bob both seem like MM staples and if they keep showing up, the mythic rarity will be less of a problem in the long run. If LotV isn't in Shadows of Innistrad she will 100% be in MM17.

Interested in Custom Card Creation.
My Cube:Cardinal Custom Cube
A custom version of a third modern masters: MM2019
(filter->rarity to see in set rarity).
WU - Merfolk
UB - Artifacts or Zombies/mill
BR - Vampires
RG - Bloodrush/Zoo (small, efficient critters, stompy stuff)
GW - Auras
WB - Tokens/sacrifice
UR - Flashback/spells matter (Delver, Kiln Fiend, Pyromancer)
BG - Graveyard shenanigans
RW - Tokens/aggro/lifegain/Human tribal? (wasn't sure whether Soul Sisters or beatdown fit better here)
UG - Landfall/ramp

UB Graveyard matters. Between Flashback, Unearth, and cards like River Kelpie, Secrets of the Dead, and Dralnu, Lich Lord, this pair has a surprising amount to offer to the strategy.
GW should totally get Cat Tribal for Wild Nacatl, Loam Lion, and Qasali Pridemage.
WB Spirits should most definitely be a thing since the set will have access to cards like Lingering Souls and Teysa, Orzhov Scion.
UR could get a turn at artifacts matter, perhaps with more focus put on "drop and pop" strategies. Think stuff like Thirst for Knowledge, Galvanic Blast, Shrapnel Blast, Krark-Clan Ironworks, etc.
BG could have Persist/Undying sac combos, perhaps with the odd Scavenge creature thrown in.
RW token army can use stuff like Krenko, Mob Boss, Hero of Bladehold, Intangible Virtue, and Assemble the Legion. Course, that might be good to hold off for when Theros joins the pool.
GU ETB combos. Graft, Evolve, Soulbond, and flash/bounce/flicker make for some fun combos.
