The storyline of Return to Zendikar seems that it will follow Sorin in some fashion of finding Nahiri or what is "left of her".
Assuming she is alive and he finds her, do you think her card will be a new one completely or is it possible that the commander 2014 card will be used but without the text "can be used as a commander"?
Being printed without the text would be functional errata. That's not happening. And Standard sets don't reference the Command zone at this time, so a straight-up reprint isn't happening. And I doubt they'll print a card that's just like the C14 version except without the commander text. Like krishnath, I would most expect a new Nahiri card. Thing is, Gideon's already the signature white walker of BfZ, so if Nahiri returns she'll most likely be red/white despite how odd that feels for a Kor.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
They never, ever, reprinted a planeswalker card in a regular block. Only core sets and special products (duel decks, etc) get such reprints. And if they wanted to start doing so, Nahiri would be a bad choice. A reprint of Sorin or Gideon or Bolas or Ugin or anyone else tied to the story would make more sense than her, because the latest tale also strongly hints that Nahiri... changed a lot in those six thousand years.
So yes, there's a good chance of Nahiri showing up again. Like all other planeswalker cards in the block, it will be a new one.

WotC doesn't take color balance into account when designing the planeswalkers in a given set. Case in point: Innistrad contained no less than three planeswalkers with black in their color identity, and scars lacked a green planeswalker. Planeswalkers serve the story first, everything else second.

True, but how many blocks can you name with two planeswalker with the exact same colour combination?
Hint: The answer is 0.

Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.

The point is that no two PWs in the same block are likely to have the exact same color identity for development reasons, and development is going to trump creative every time. Nahiri works with stone and metal, meaning she can be a RW planeswalker to contrast with the presumably monowhite Gideon.

And Scars block lacked a green planeswalker entirely. Planeswalkers are chosen first for story reasons, secondarily for everything else. WotC has reiterated this time and again. They do not have a little list that says "White Walker, Blue Walker, Black Walker, Red Walker, Green Walker).
For example, in Theros, neither Ashiok nor Kiora where important to the story, only three walkers where necessary for the story they had crafted: Elspeth as the tragic hero, Xenagos as the villain, and Ajani as the mentor. Elspeth had to be pure white, Xenagos was RG due to his personality and because it fit the story, and Ajani became GW because it was the natural progression of his story arc, starting in red-green, and ending in white-green, thus hitting all of Naya's colors.
Kiora showed up because people had been clamoring for her since her appearance in Duels. The earliest she could have been printed was Dragon's Maze, but another character had already been selected for that set that took up the one planeswalker slot available. Ashiok was primarily because they had an empty spot to fill, and they felt they could use a character of ambiguous nature and gender.
In Innistrad, again there were only three characters necessary for the plot: Liliana, Garruk, and Sorin, and all three needed to have black in their color identity for various reasons. Lily because she is a necromancer who cares for noone but herself (the villain-protagonist), Garruk due to having been veilcursed. And Sorin because he's a friggin' living vampire. Since Garruk was base green, the logical choice was to make him dual colored, and due to the doublesided cards, they could make him monogreen on one side. Sorin had to be black because of his vampireness, but they added white because he created the planes (missing) angelic protector, who is white. Their story was concluded by the end of Dark Ascension, which left two unused spots in Avacyn Restored. Since no other planeswalkers where needed to the plot, they decided to add another blue and another red planeswalker, one native to Innistrad, the other a throwback to Kamigawa. This allowed them to hit each of the five color combinations.
In Scars on the other hand, there where five planeswalkers crucial to the plot, that meant that there where no empty planeswalker spots to fill out the color wheel if needed. We ended up with two monocolored walkers (Elspeth and Koth for white and red respectively), two dual colored walkers (Tezzeret and Venser, for blue/black and blue/white respectively), and one Colorless walker (Karn). This left no space for green.
The only reason we even hit all five colors in Tarkir was because of Sarkhan's little jaunt through time to become a paradox made him partially blue, while his personality when his mind became whole shifted towards green.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Ajani marks the tenth and final two-color combination to show up on a Planeswalker. I'm sure a lot of people are curious if he was made green-white specifically because we didn't have one yet. The answer is "sort of." Let me walk you through what happened. We knew we wanted Ajani. We also knew the protagonist was going to be Elspeth.
While the creative team chooses which characters are going to be represented as Planeswalkers, they have to work with development to make sure there is a good color balance. The existence of a mono-white Elspeth-and the creative team really wanted her mono-white (in general, it's nice if the protagonist is monocolor to help him or her get more visibility by showing up in a greater number of decks)-meant it was awkward if a second Planeswalker was mono-white. Note that it is something we could do if we have to but it did raise some red flags.
As the team started looking at options for a two-color Ajani, there weren't a lot that made sense. Also, the team was aware that green-white was going to be the last combination (Kiora was the second-to-last, fulfilling the green-blue void) to appear on a Planeswalker, and green-white fit the flavor well. This meant that green-white solved our problems while also allowing us to deliver something we know players had been asking for.
By this same token, I would not be surprised if Sarkhan the Mad was made black/red as much to help distinguish him from Chandra Ablaze as to demonstrate Bolas' influence on him. And it's the reason why Nissa and Kiora could in theory both appear in BFZ block as while both are green, Kiora's also part blue.

The last part of the second paragraph of your quote is quite interesting. I.e. they can do multiple planeswalkers with the same color(s), but if they can avoid doing it, they will.

Of which only one was pure black. The other two were either straight up gold or part black only after transformation and the latter didn't even require black mana to play, making him more like a quarter hybrid card.
Another example: Theros had three green walkers, all of which were gold. And the latter also shared a color with the monowhite Elspeth, Sun's Champion.
