It would be disappointing if it was very weak, but there's no reason they can't print a lotus card that isn't incredibly busted. Look at Gilded Lotus and Lotus Cobra, for example.
As for the speculation side of things, sign me up for the "eeh sure why not?" camp.
If one is printed, it could even be a colorless instant or sorcery. It wouldn't be wholly outside of the realm of the flavor either. There is the trend of Wizards being at best hesitant to print fast mana, so I do not necessarily see this being the case.
What about a "Lotus"-like enchantment? We've had Artifacts, Land and a landfall Creature. From my point of view it's time for a enchantment/aura wich comes close to Paradise Mantle
Lotus Dance2 Sorcery
As an additional cost to Lotus Dance, tap an untapped creature you control, it doesn't untap during your next untap step.
Add 3 to your mana pool.
Fermented Lotus Cache3 Artifact
Hexproof
Fermented Lotus Cache enters the battlefield with two fermentation counters on it.
At the start of your upkeep, remove a fermentation counter from Fermented Lotus Cache. t, Exile Fermented Lotus Cache: Add three mana in any combination of colors to your mana pool, spells cast with this mana can't be countered by spells or abilities. You may not activate this ability while Fermented Lotus Cache has any fermentation counters on it.
Dried Lotus
Legendary Artifact 0
Sacrifice Dried Lotus: Add 3 mana of any color to your mana pool.
At the beginning of the game, reveal Dried Lotus and exile it.
EDIT 1: You may only have a single copy of Dried Lotus in your deck.
EDIT 2: My tongue in cheek lotus was STILL busted! All the Spikes would play 4 and go to 56 card decks!
There shouldn't really be a lotus in standard when Ugin is legal. The card is already playable, WotC should not let the Ugin deck 'build itself' by printing more strong colourless cards to go with it. That just makes the format stale.
This would be incredibly strong and would be instantly banned in Modern.
Except Simian Spirit Guide is probably better in anything that is not an eggs deck. Modern can't abuse artifacts as bad as Legacy/Vintage can so I don't think this is really a problem card. Maybe having 8 spirit guides in modern is going to make some combo deck really busted though.
Storm heavily disagrees with your assessment. If SSG added to storm count it would be better, sure, but storm has plenty of uses for colorless mana- the rituals have a colorless cost, ascension, desperate ravings, past in flames, grapeshot... There are other cases where the petal would outweigh the gorilla, but storm is the prime offender.
Dragonflame LotusWURBG Artifact

EDIT: Or it could have a hybrid colourless 2/W 2/U 2/B 2/R 2/B 2/G cost like Reaper King, which would make it a 7cmc rock in any Wedge/ Shard deck.
How about this:
Ghostfire Lotus(2/W)(2/U)(2/B)(2/R)(2/G) Legendary Artifact
Ghostfire Lotus is colorless. Ghostfire Lotus can't be countered by spells or abilities.
Hexproof, Indestructible. t: Add three mana in any combination of colors to your mana pool.

I don't think that Wizards would print something that was that much better than Gilded Lotus. I figured that the ability to tap for a mix of mana (over 3 of the same) was enough of an upside to offset the more restrictive casting cost. At the very least your version would have to be legendary, as the first one you cast would go 3/5ths of the way to casting a second on the same turn.
The Ghostfire aspect is very thematic to the set though, I like that.
If it sees print i think a morph black lotus like:
Dragon's Eye Lotus3
Sac to add 3
Morph—0
.
Would be balanced and more likely, if you get to manifest it you could do good stuff but it is clearly not an obvious broken card like this.
A classy way to print it in the format would be "add 3 mana of any 3 different colors to your mana pool", allowing you to fix your mana in any 3-color combination.
Morph/Manifest will be different in DTK so this won't be the exact print but the idea is the same.
A manifested creature can only be turned face up for its mana cost if it is a creature card.

At what point does this thread get moved to "Custom Card Creation"?
I'm not sure the Jeskai use of lotus as a symbol needs to be translated to a literal Lotus card ("Lotus" meaning something different and specific to MTG).

Affinity? The spirit guide comparison would be valid if it helped activate your Mox Opals and Etched Champions for free, while also accelerating your mana. Not to mention how powerful it would be in Storm.
Astral Cornucopia says hi to all the people mentioning Gilded Lotus. It is a watered down version, but it is a version.
I could see having a creature that gives you a mana as part of a prowess trigger, but that seems incredibly dangerous with Jeskai Ascendancy running around.

In terms of mana, this is just another Ritual for Storm. I can see how it may be good for Affinity, but it would only make their nut draws better, not to mention it doesn't really do anything for arcbound ravager aside from accelerating it earlier at card disadvantage.
It's interactions with Ravager might be merely good, rather than great, but that doesn't change the fact that it would be very powerful in that deck.
