I think with the removal of core-sets there would be a higher demand for reprints...so I feel like the answer would be to utilize the "bonus" rarity from TimeSpiral. That way they can give kitchen table players their kitchen table stapes and hardcore magic players can get reprints without it interfering with their draft/standard environment. Anyone think this is the route they will go?
Well, the 'bonus' rarity was limited to the timeshifted reprints from Time Spiral [See here]. It could happen, but they'd need some sort of storyline reason to do it. I'd be up for it if it happened.

I don't think that would work for a few reasons (though I want it to):
1. A lot of wanted reprints would warp standard, or effect development of standard sets.
2. If the bonus cards are not legal in standard, players opening packs would be confused, and it's a feel-bad.
3. Players that want to play with new cards would also resent the bonus card taking a slot.
4. Reprint-oriented products make more sense.

The 2015 Deck Builder's kit did have some reserved Standard card reprints which could only be obtained by buying this product. If they want to add some reprints of Core Sets cards, they can just use other products to introduce them like the 2016 Deck Builder's kit, if they have one.
I don't think Wizards has a particular need to reprint 100+ some cards for every standard environment. Its both more exciting and profitable if the standard cardpool is constantly shifting, and the handful of necessary key staples are usually flavor-neutral enough to be reprinted within sets & flesh out the limited environment. We will surely see some more of this kind of reprint with the core sets gone.
I imagine they might also want some more basic cards for the intro decks/deckbuilder kit that will therefore be standard legal, but those aren't necessarily competitive cards moreso than simple/elegant ones.
