Since M16 is the final coreset, I thought I'd set up a thread for speculation/wishes for it.
First of all, to get lands out of the way, I'm speculating that we'll be getting the Mirrodin fastlands (Seachrome Coast cycle), due to their relatively difficult to reprint names, although that is only if my prediction that in Fate Reforged we'll get the Zendikar fetchlands, and in Dragons of Tarkir we'll get the remaining enemy Fastlands created (with somewhat easier, more generic names), treating M16 and Dragons of Tarkir as a 'pseudo-block' of their own due to the new standard rotation setup. This would be a little intense for a while for Standard I'll admit, at least for a bit, but it would complete some cycles that would be helpful for Modern and keep blocks having complete cycles of 10 rare lands during this period, and it's not like fetchlands synergize particularly well with fast-lands. Slightly more likely though I suspect we'll get the rest of the painlands in M16, to finish M15's cycle, and the rest of the fetchlands somewhere in Khans block, possibly split between the last two sets, or all in the final set, with no rare dual land cycles in Fate Reforged.
My hope/wish is that my prediction for the fast-lands is correct though.
Other cards I'd love to see in the final core-set, although probably not all of them, just ones that would fit together well, favoring ones not available yet in Modern or that need Modern reprints to help keep the format affordable, or that will be very difficult to reprint in the future:
I'd use spoiler tags for that list, not to avoid spoilers but rather to compact the list and save scrolling time.
Like the other core sets starting with M11, I'm assuming M16 will feature a returning mechanic. Since it's going to be the last core set as we know them, I'm assuming they'll try to send it off with a bang. One way to do this would be to reprint at least one card from every previous Core Set, Alpha to M15. They might even go further and reprint one card from every previous once-Standard legal set; would be one heck of a way to send off the three-set structure along with the core sets. As for the mechanic, Cycling or Kicker are my top choices as they've been the two most influential expert-level keywords in MtG history. I'd sooner expect Kicker as it's a little more exciting than Cycling, suitable for going out with a bang.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I'd love for the set to have a lot of powerful reprints for Modern, that swings the power level pendulum far back in the other direction, and out of this lull we've been in since GTC/DGM.
I kinda wanted scry as the expert level so we could have one last hurrah for it in Standard while Theros was still legal, an excuse to reprint Serum Visions, and a chance to print some better cards along the lines of Knowledge and Power and Flamespeaker Adept to build around scry, as well as a couple more removal resistant (or at least non-creature) options besides Thassa for repeated scry that doesn't cost anything, or at least a repeated scry that doesn't cost to trigger again and again that is non-creature but scrys 2 or 3, rather than just 1, or costing mana to scry like Crystal Ball. Mostly because I really wish I could brew a standard 'scry deck'.
But thinking about it, kicker or cycling would be much better choices for the sake of Modern. Cycling because it has lots of cards that the Modern card pool could use them printing in a Modern legal set, and kicker because it is just a good mechanic that is easy to utilize in both constructed and limited.
Since Modern masters 2 stops right before INN, and considering LotV was left out of M15 for power level reason, with mon B devotion being the top deck when M15 came, I bet its safe to assume that LotV will be THE chase card of the set.

"De potentia juvenis somniabat, nunc de Mundo somniat..."
Hmm... maybe the Urzatron lands? They probably wouldn't go very good in MM2, but they might go fine in the final coreset, especially if there isn't overly powered stuff to cast with them.
Since Modern masters 2 stops right before INN, and considering LotV was left out of M15 for power level reason, with mon B devotion being the top deck when M15 came, I bet its safe to assume that LotV will be THE chase card of the set.
So now that I know MM2 is coming out, and what sets will be in it, and some other stuff I've been thinking about, I'm revising my wishlist here somewhat, and categorizing some stuff, focusing more on stuff I'd actually like to see printed/reprinted that either can't be in MM2 or I'd like to see come back to standard or fits with other stuff I picked out etc.:
I would like the final core to be kind of a greatest hits of cards but in a way I also don't want reprints. I would like to get new Titans, New Leylines, New kickass versions of the main 5 Planeswalkers: Jace, Chandra, Liliana, Garruk and Ajani (but since the latter two already have several versions, perhaps supplement with Nissa and Gideon or maybe give us two new mono-colored PW). I say go big or go home on this last Core set.
I think M16 will probably deal with the ramifications of FRF. Something like touching in on a range of planes showing
small little tweaks changes. It'd be an interesting way to revisit a lot of magic's history while retcon cards to fit modern magic
Sort of like a Time spiral in miniature with out throwing tonnes of mechanics into the set.
I'm starting to think maybe Counterspell wouldn't be that bad in Modern. If they put it into a set with strong removal and lots of creatures that have ETB effects and a few without ETB effects but that are counterproof, especially with the new slightly faster standard rotation, it might be fine in Standard as well.
I'd like to point out that WotC employees have avoided calling it "Magic 2016," rather referring to it as "the last core set." Also, the name "Magic Origins" has been trademarked, so I expect to see something incredible.
If we are going to go for memetic cards, another one to use would be Scaled Wurm, who is tremendously popular in Japan, for similar reasons to Storm Crow (even has a bunch of fanart).
We'd also need Chimney Imp. It's resistant to Abupt Decay!
And we'd be just leaving a pan-asia type block, so a meditative card like One with Nothing is a shoe-in!
Leaving a morph block we of course need Break Open!
And we can't let Charging Badger leave Standard, we'll need a reprint so it doesn't leave with the Theros block rotation! Of course he needs a Snake and a bunch of Mushrooms!
I hope by "origins" they mean "power level of M11/M12". I've loathed Type 2 since ~1999, but those formats were enough to draw me out of my eternal-format shell.
I would like to see multicolored cards and legendary permanents, again, since those are now acceptable in core sets, and also some excellent mana-gnerating artifacts. It also would be nice to have the Innistrad checklands or the Shadowmoor/Eventide filter lands, since those have never been reprinted.

This is going to be oddly specific, but I want a blue or blue/black modern playable 1-3 CMC Faerie creature with flash, flying and an ETB ability. Faeries aren't on a lot of planes, but they go well in core sets, so it's a good place to give modern Faeries a new playable card. I mean thanks for Quickling and everything, WotC, but it's nowhere near good enough. Please try again.
I'm also waiting for black to get a great one mana kill spell. I think it's so odd that black, the kill spell color, is only the third best color for removal in eternal formats after Bolt and Path/Plow. It's just not right.
And lastly, the card I'm always pitching when I get an excuse:
Silence Mage1W
Creature - Human Wizard
Flash
When ~ ETB, {Silence},
2/1

The other stuff you posted seems fine, but I think the card in the quote from twinfrodo possibly breaks the color pie. Untapping lands, and basically giving your mana back for playing stuff it is typically a blue effect, Palinchron is what this seems to be a color shifted version of, Great Whale and Rewind also seem to use this mechanic. I could be wrong though and blue could share this color pie bit with white, I just can't recall white doing anything like this.
If we're going to get black a 1 mana kill spell, I hope it's Innocent Blood reprinted for Modern.
I wouldn't get to hopeful on a blue-black card, WotC seems to have decided such is the color of mill, and I suspect they want mill to be Modern viable, but don't actually know how to do so without making it OP, so they keep on pushing out very mildly pushed mill engines in that color pair every block or so.
With faries, I'm not sure what you'd want specifically. They are one of the weirder tribals, due to being heavier on little utility tricks from ETB. Hm... maybe one that is basically Disperse on ETB with a faerie attached? Or maybe something as backup/variant for Scion of Oona or 5-8 of it in your deck that gives other faeries +1/+1. Or maybe a faerie that searches the library for other faerie cards on ETB to put into your hand?
Maybe a 'clap if you believe' card that regenerates target faerie in black, with some nice side-benefit to make up for such a specific tribal-locked effect that is normally viable as a green one drop in Mending Touch? Although a set would need a lot of faerie tribal to justify that.
Personally, I think I'd like something like this:
Wary SoldierUU Creature - Human Soldier
Hexproof, Vigilance
Wary Soldier can't attack a player or a planeswalker they control if that player controls a creature with more power than Wary Soldier's toughness.
If two or more creatures are blocking Wary Soldier, tap it and remove it from combat, it can't attack during your next turn. 1/4
It's a rather defensive critter, but not quite with defender or anything like that, it can still attack sometimes, but it is generally resilient to removal and can often attack and block relatively safely, even if has little in terms of base damage. Of course, it gets much better in a deck with equipment and auras to boost it up.

Hm... maybe one that is basically Disperse on ETB with a faerie attached? Or maybe something as backup/variant for Scion of Oona or 5-8 of it in your deck that gives other faeries +1/+1. Or maybe a faerie that searches the library for other faerie cards on ETB to put into your hand?
Maybe a 'clap if you believe' card that regenerates target faerie in black, with some nice side-benefit to make up for such a specific tribal-locked effect that is normally viable as a green one drop in Mending Touch? Although a set would need a lot of faerie tribal to justify that.
Personally, I think I'd like something like this:
Wary Soldier UU
Creature - Human Soldier
