I personally don't think they will be putting all these big money cards you all think they will. Everything from Innistrad to now is NOT getting reprinted. Things that just got a reprint wont be reprinted, Remand, Lightning Helix, Inquisition, Path to Exile, ect. This set isn't JUST a set they can use as an excuse to reprint everything, that isn't the primary goal, they need to make a balanced limited format and reprint SOME cards to avoid making the market crash. If they reprinted everything we wanted then prices across the board would drop and stores would lose money. THATS another Chronicles.

Yes, it was stated that MM2 only goes from Mirrodin to New Phyrexia.

I have been wondering: WotC shall no longer be printing core sets, since they were not sufficiently popular, and the reason for that is because they were comprised mostly (or even entirely, until recently) of reprints. However, Modern Masters is entirely reprints, as well, but is far more popular than are core sets. Why is that? What is different between the two types of sets?

The value and modern playability of the average card is the main difference between Modern Masters and a core set.
Most core sets have two areas where they are playable, their own draft (which varies in fun between core sets), and Standard. They usually have very few, if any, modern playble cards that are in demand.
Modern Masters however was filled with cards that had relatively small print runs and a good many cards that were valuable and playable in Modern, so it had it's own draft format, and it had cards playable in Modern, ones expected to keep more value than Standard playability offers.
A lot of core sets weren't even that good on the Standard playability front, especially when it came to cards that weren't just reprints of basic utility stuff, like naturalize.
A pack of Modern Masters you had decent odds of being able to play constructed with a noticeable percentage of the cards.
A pack of your average core set you either already had most of the cards that you'd play constructed with them, or they'd see no constructed playable cards at all in some packs. More common than that, you might only see a few constructed playable cards, but ones that won't work in lasting formats, only in the current Standard.
My reasons for doing so are to provide a frame of reference for suggesting possible cards in MM15. The ratios may not be the exact same, indeed I expect to see a few more artifacts this time out, but a diagram like above helps to break information down into manageable chunks.
We have to consider all the limited needs of any set, including the variance in creature sizes, spell costs, and distribution of important mechanics including evergreen keywords like flying and first strike. Not to mention, overlap commons are a crucial part of any limited set design. If you study MM1's draft archetypes, you'll find that many of its commons support multiple draft strategies; Faerie Mechanist fits into both WU Affinity and UB Faeries while Empty the Warrens fits into BR Goblins and RG Suspend/Storm.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
That is a nice point, but at $10 per pack, I think they need to prioritize the value of the cards and their relevance in Modern over a good draft format. It sounds weird, but people are afraid of cracking packs if it has a high chance of drastically lowering the value of the cards within. If there is at least some chase rares/mythics in the set, but the average value of a rare/mythic/uncommon is low, and the price of the packs themselves is high, it will encourage more hoarding over more drafting. Draft is fun, but players recognize it is a more short-term kind of fun that can't be replicated easily without new packs or the large effort of making a cube (which cards within might not apply to), so they'll hesitate to open expensive packs that aren't likely to have close to the same value within as the cost of the pack, especially if the pack is high enough price to not be a casual purchase, and there is even a tiny chance of an extremely valuable card within keeping the price of the pack itself from remaining low priced even after stopping printing.
I _really_ don't want hoarders to buy up tons of packs because others are afraid to get them, and save them until they can sell them for ridiculous prices after MM2 is no longer available. I want regular players to feel safe enough buying packs that they'll do so and draft, and sell extra cards back to the market.
I also place priority over the Modern format itself above the Modern Masters 2 draft format. I'd rather the reprints be set up to help modern better than have a slightly better draft format, especially because with core sets leaving, certain reprints will be harder to do.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
The large part of MM1s success was actually on the back of the great limited format, particularly with the success of GP LV, which they are intending to do 3-4 time as much this time.
So if our goal is to predict the cards in the set we should look at how they would work together in a limited format, because WotC does want it to be as good as last tie.
MM1 used tribal synergies to link archetypes and changelings to weave the set together in a cohesive way. It might not necessarily be the same this time but mechanics in reprints will have to be weaved through the whole set.
For example they wanted to reprint engineered explosives so they had to put sunburst into the set, then ramp and domain to allow 5 colour etc.
So if they want to reprint Birthing pod they need to allow phyrexian mana... which opens the door for Gitxian probe etc. The rares they might want to include can cascade choices through the whole set. not to mention completion of cycles of rares.
If they include a landfall rare (E.g Lotus cobra) they then would want to facilitate landfall through out the set. (perhaps with fetches ?) maybe we will see things like Geopede and steppe lynx. Perhaps that makes them want to print Prime time... then suddenly they need the whole gang.
Serum visions really really needs a reprint.. If it is in that means Scry will feature heavily in the set, another printing of Magma jet seems redundant but it might be required. Condescend is a good scry card maybe we will have that, but then would we also want remand and have that many counterspells?
Of course if this is just a wish list none of the trying to predict the cards in the set matters.
*edit* well following my own logic. Emrakul is super hard to cast how would t, perhaps urza lands but getting all three in a draft would be hard then you'd have to find them expedition map, sylvan scrying, ancient stirring which works with artifacts amd links to the other card we know etched champion which has metal craft meachinic which needs support in the set etc....
WB Knights? Now that's speaking my language. Lots of potential for overlaps too. Although, based on card space and the average number of cards that support a given archetype at a given rarity, I would estimate that about 25% of that list would be printed. For white and black each there would be approximately three to four common Knights, probably two to three uncommon, and one or two rares plus the possible Hero of Bladehold. If I were to guess which Knights might see print:
While working on that, I think I got an idea of what the GW archetype could be: Cats! Skyhunter Cub would be a great overlap between WU Metalcraft, WB Knights, and GW Cats, and Cat tribal in general has a lot of overlap with those other two archetypes.

Yeah, these could be the PLEASE GOD I HOPE NOT TO GET mythics of MMA2, like the Dragon Spirits in MMA. Though I am a little bit biased in this issue because I got friggin' four mythics in my MMA box - all Dragon Spirits (and to add insult to injury, the only one I did NOT get was Kokusho) :-P
You too? I already had a Kokusho from FTV so I didn't care as much since I ad a full cycle if I want them for Commander. Did get a foil Keiga from that box, so that's not too bad... Terrible box overall in my opinion. Could have been so much better. I'm actually disappointed that out of two boxes I walked away with just one Kitchen Finks. There were some cards I wanted and was looking forward to but I either never saw them or got a single copy.
As far as what I'm hoping for, I'm hoping for TRON lands and maybe a few key cards for that deck, like Expedition Map, maybe Simian Spirit Guide and other spells, some important pieces for Bogles (Slippery Bogle for one, along with maybe Daybreak Coronet), hopefully some more Red Burn spells like Lightning Bolt, Goblin Guide, maybe Noble Hierarch (maybe this will get bumped to Mythic?), Birthing Pod, and perhaps Spellskite?
Some other things I'd like to see are Mox Opal and Cranial Plating (I hate affinity, but MMA catered to Faeries, some Affinity, and some other deck archtypes, so maybe we can get some more archtypes in here and/or other pieces for MMA archtypes instead). Oh, and Serum Visions could be nice.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that this isn't the right set to reprint Urzatron. Trying to assemble all three in limited could be a real pain as most Modern players will understand their value right away and try to snap them up. There's other good options for ramping like Everflowing Chalice and Cabal Coffers. Urzatron should probably be left to a supplement precon or, however unlikely, a Standard reprint.

Cabal Coffers isn't Modern legal. If the Urzatron lands were reprinted at common, we could see them because you stand a better chance of collecting them during a draft. Designed as a drafting set (which works primarily around commons and uncommons of course) how would you play Emrakul in limited aside from Everflowing Chalice? Mythics aren't necessarily considered for playability in limited, but as this is made more for draft than opening and collecting, it must have been considered at some point. That's the primary reason I see Urzatron lands being printed. Although if they make a Modern Event Deck again (maybe alternate each year between Modern Masters and a Modern Event Deck), then I am hoping an Urzatron deck winds up there.

It's not? *looks up Cabal Coffers* Huh. Well then, there's always Magus of the Coffers, though as a rare that costs 4B it's a little less viable for ramping. Emrakul requires no additional support to fully function; Tronlands require three pieces minimum. They could be printed at Common to make playing them more viable, but that risks warping the draft. Eldrazi Spawn tokens would work well as a means to ramp into Emrakul, ramping into big Eldrazi is their primary purpose after all.

So you're suggesting most MM15 limited players have access to 7 mana by turn 3? I can't help but to feel that would warp the format. If an artifact fatty like Phyrexian Hulk or Razorfield Rhino is in there, they'll regularly hit the field by turn 3 most likely with a couple other artifacts waiting to provide Metalcraft. And if you're not running a lot of artifacts or otherwise colorless cards like Eldrazi or Karn Liberated, what then? I guess there's always general ramp strategies like what Everflowing Chalice is used for.
I just feel like Urzatron is more for Constructed than Limited. Do I want it reprinted? Hay yes. I just don't know if MM15 limited is the right format. Wouldn't Commander make sense as a format for rampy lands, or is Urzatron's relative inconsistency without adequate tutoring considered too big a liability? Planechase also comes to mind.

While working on that, I think I got an idea of what the GW archetype could be: Cats! Skyhunter Cub would be a great overlap between WU Metalcraft, WB Knights, and GW Cats, and Cat tribal in general has a lot of overlap with those other two archetypes.

To avoid redundancy, I list all Cat Knights as Cats instead of Knights.

If I were to guess, you must have an Avacyn Commander deck that you need these cards for.

Called it.
Either way, Sensei's Divining Top won't be there because it is banned, and Swords won't be there because it isn't Modern legal.

Ah, forgot about the spawn tokens. So then yes, that's probably what will happen. Still wouldn't mind seeing the Tron lands reprinted, especially in non-foil black border. I'm not a white border land kind of guy and I'd really like to not pay $5 each for black borders from Antiquities (I like Ninth Edition art better anyway...)
I'm just wishing for it even if it isn't true. Maybe it'll be the next event deck though.

Mindleech mass would also be nice, if only to have the card with updated wording.
