I don't think so. The sword cycle was built as a two card cycle in darksteel. They decided to finish it for nostalgia factors. The swords are pretty uniquely mirrodin, so I wouldn't expect to see them outside of that world.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
I see a return to New Phyrexia, and a cleansing of the plane in some way being part of the story line. I could easily see new swords for the next return to the plane, and we are going back since you cant just bring back Phyrexia and forget about it.
No there won't be the reason the swords were off colour wasn't just a quirk of the the design but rather forethought regarding their use in standard play. The colour pie says that the RG are allies, RB and so on. The thought is that if these swords are dominate in an environment they will be weak to another side. I.E if you can not do anything about the Ice in Fire and Ice hopefully the fire side won't affect your deck because you ally should be white or black respectively.
The swords came about when colour diversity wasn't the top priority and they would be even greater in a multicoloured environment because rather than having a 20% chance of affecting the creature they increase to 40% for dual coloured creatures.
So no I do not see more swords being made, above is why.
plausible. the names are generic enough to go in any set. but there's no hurry to finish the cycle. it might be better as a mega-cycle spread across several blocks or core sets.
The first part of the cycle did control the formats they go in. I'd imagine they would either find a standard where artifact hate was stronger or print them in supplementals like commander decks and such.

Petition to stop WotC from making M:tG cards that do not fit my specific likes! Join the revolution! If not you, then who?
Ah, women. They make the highs higher and the lows more frequent.-Friedrich Nietzsche
Sometimes I feel like the word "interactivity" around here is akin to the word "electrolytes" in sports drinks. The public doesn't really know what it means, but they figure it's a good thing to have.
At this point, it almost seems likely that we will see 5 more "Swords" to complete the swords cycle.
If you had said after the first Mirrodin block that it seemed like the other three swords were missing then you'd have a point. But we now have all five. It's an enemy colored cycle of five cards. It is now finished, the circle is closed. So I don't know what makes you think that "it seems likely" since there has been zero indication that they ever intend to do allied colors swords.
I"d like to see them keep this cycle as is. Something the enemy colored pairs have that the allies don't. It was QUITE nice of them to complete the cycle in teh SOM block. I'm happy with them as is.
They said that with the most recent trip to Mirrodin/New Phyrexia that they were completing the cycle. So I'm guessing we likely won't see any new swords, but reprints are possible.
And its been stated that we're very likely to see New Phyrexia again in the future, and I'm pretty sure they left the storyline open specifically for that reason. Urabrask is harboring the remaining Mirrodins, all of the praetors are fighting each other, and I believe Tezzeret is still hanging out there too, but I might be wrong as I haven't read the book yet.
Didn't Maro and co. only produce the final 3 begrudgingly? Regardless, 5 mythic artifacts in conjunction with the 3-set blocks seems like an enormously tall order.
I think it's very possible, but wouldn't it be cooler to create a cycle an allied cycle of another equipment.... Staff of, Shield of, Bow of, Hammer of, Armor of etc....
Profani
How would you make them relevant and flexible like the swords but make them feel different?
The swords already boost the toughness of the creature and give it protection from two colours. The shields probably have to give the same kind of protection to be part of the ''cycle'', but what do you do to make them mechanically relevant if they are not proactive (which a shield does not imply) ?
Make them reactive....
Shield of Law and Order 3
Artifact-Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from black and from red.
When equipped creature blocks, creatures it blocked don't untap during their controllers next untap step and target creature gets -2/-0 until your next turn.
Equip 2

We can have two large blocks theses days if need be. Two 'shields' in the big sets and one in the small set.

The problem with shields is that people just won't attack into them without some way to circumvent them, leaving their abilities more or less irrelevant. Offensive cards are way easier to design.
I got some inspiration though and came up with a cycle. What do you think of these from the perspective of making defensive equipment that is powerful, without making the creatures bombs in your own attack step?
Shield of Fury and Plague 3
Equip 2
Equipped creature gets +2/+2, protection from black and protection from red.
Whenever an opponent's combat step begins, up to two target creatures must attack this turn if able. Creatures blocked by equipped creature get -1/-1 until end of turn.
As a way to make the shield relevant without making it a directly offensive threat, I used red's love of inciting attacks and blacks flavour of weakening creatures.
Shield of Growth and Power 3
Equip 2
Protection from Red and Green.
Whenever a creature an opponent controls attacks, equipped creature gains a +1/+1 counter. Whenever equipped creature is destroyed, it deals damage equal to its power to target creature or player.
Green grows, red burns.. So, works for me. Might be a bit too good, the last ability maybe should only hit creatures, and be a "may" ability to avoid backfire.
Shield of Rebirth and Purity 3
Equip 2
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 has protection from Green and White.
Whenever equipped creature is destroyed, put a token into play that's a copy of that creature. Gain life equal to that token's power.
So this is fitting the populate feel of G/W, because I'm doing these quickly off the top of my head and taking the closest inspiration I can. Tokens are a very G and W thing, as is lifegain, though. Might have to specify only if destroyed in combat, but I don't see this enabling too many combos. Then again.. thragtusk..
Shield of Secret Power 3
Equip 2
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from blue and black.
Whenever equipped creature blocks, Scry 2. Then you may reveal the card on top of your library, lose life equal to its converted mana cost, and put it into your hand.
Very blue and very black. Makes your guy a situational Dark Confidant. Unoriginal perhaps, but I feel it'd be good. You might attack into a guy with this on a creature, but they're getting some serious advantage if you do. Less risk to the creatures and more risk to card advantage.
Shield of Soul and Water 3
Equip 2
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from White and Blue.
Whenever an opponent attacks, they may only do so with one creature. Creatures that attack you do not untap suring their controller's next untap step.
The single attack thing feels white, the tapping down thing feels very blue. I have no idea how comparable the shields are in power level, but they all feel interesting to me.
Cool ideas... Let me give it a crack
3 Shield of Law and Air
Equip 2
Equipped creature gets +2+2 and protection from W and U
If shield of law and air is equipped during your opponents upkeep he or she has to pay 1 for each creature he or she controls if he doesn't tap each creature that wasn't payed for, when equipped creature blocks you may return target creature to the top of owners library (wording is jacked)
3 Shield of Ember and Twilight
Equip 2
Equipped creature gets +2+2 and protection from R and B
When shield of ember and twilight is equipped do 2 damage to target creature or player whenever equipped creature blocks put a 2/2 zombie token creature into play under your control.
Maybe if Wizards finds a reason to return to Mirrodin a third time, which I can see in the semi-far future.
Did you mean new phyrexia? ;p
And I don't think so. Then again, I didn't think the original swords were a cycle to begin with.
And shields would need to be similar things, not opposite (if allied colored.) And several wouldn't be phyrexian ideals (like white and any color).
Soot and Ash (black red)?
Faith and Reason (blue/white)?
Strength and Savagery (red/green)?
Growth and Unity (white/green)?
Pain and progress (black/blue)?
I doubt that there shall be any more swords in this cycle, since each sword (or at least the first two) represents a classic conflict between two famous opposing forces (or lack thereof, in certain cases), and I am not certain that there any famous pairs that would be allied colors within this game, or least not enough for a complete cycle.
Also, I agree that five swords is more than sufficient for this cycle, so there currently is no need, in my mind, for any further swords at this point in time.

There won't be another sword cycle. We're done.
There's plenty of other more interesting designs waiting for us in New Phyrexia.
Double protection is obnoxious enough to deal with, we don't need any more of it.
