I dunno about that, but basic gates would've been nice. As far as gate duals, refer to snow duals from Coldsnap. We probably won't see any more of them :/

Snow will probably return some day. There are still things that can be done with the mechanic (such as snow mana in casting costs for example).

I don't think they they will ever print guildgates again. They made the experiment and didn't go well, even the gate-matter cards aren't that useful in competitive enviroments, even in pauper there is times you don't wan't to draw a guildgate xD.
And as many are concerned, this is a ravnica-exclusive keyword, which main purpouse was use the guildgates as part of the storytelling.
At least they gave us a new winning con with Maze's End
I dunno, proper snow duals with a drawback (in the vein shock lands with the snow supertype) is pretty much a given eventually. WotC knows that people want them.

This doesn't mean we won't be ever getting cards with the gate subtype again. Just look at the Urza lands, it wasn't until Time Spiral we got a new land with the subtype (Urza's Factory), and we will probably get lands with the desert subtype as well eventually. Give it time, if WotC decides that it would be flavorful to have one or more lands with the gate subtype, then we'll get more.
As for the gates, they are fairly popular in limited, as are the gate matter cards, particularly the ones that fetch the gates. And I can tell you, I wouldn't have placed as well as I did in the Dragon's Maze pre-release as I did (6th), if it hadn't been for Gateway Shade (my card pool sucked in general) and three gates in my colors.
They'll probably go back to the old invasions cycle (coastal tower), probably finishing the cycle off with enemy taplands (izzet guildgate) but without any tie-ins to Ravnica, or any specific set for that matter.
the Gate subtype, like Phyrexian mana, splice onto arcane, etc.., are tied to specific planes/factions and i don't think we'll se them again as such.

I have seen it mentioned that WotC would like to use Splice again, but without the same restriction they had in Kamigawa. Indeed I am fairly certain that Arcane limitation was one their regrets with Kamigawa. It made splice to parasitic. If Splice lacked that limitation, it would probably have improved peoples overall perception of the block.
As for the gate subtype, I am fairly certain that something that generic could easily be slotted in wherever WotC felt like it.

A general splicing would be awesome, without mentioning overpowered. If they do that, for sure spells would be as costly as cipher ones, or maybe 1 mana less. Good splice on arcane decks used to allow you to have tons of cards in your hand, you can kill threats and keep a good hand at the same time. And more those spells who you didn't pay with mana, but other ways (Horobi's Whisper). They would be some pretty abusable cards.

We will probably have to wait at least the 4-5 years til Multi-Coloured comes back as a theme and they need common mana fixings.
I think it's more likely we will see them then the karoo lands.
I can see them using the cares about non-basic land type trick again, I think it helps design common creatures that aren't just carbon copies of the same ones in the last set.
Personally, I think gates themselves are less likely to come back, at least not until RtRtR. Mainly because giving that particular subtype to any other cards would cause flavor strangeness with Maze's End, where you're winning because you have 8 of the guild gates, and two of these new weird things.
That said, I think they're going to keep an eye out for opportunities to use new land types, so while I don't think they'll bring back gates, they'll likely use gate like stuff again.
That is pretty lucky, I had 5 gates in my colours and three of the black gatekeepers. They did a lot of work...
They'll probably go back to the old invasions cycle (coastal tower), probably finishing the cycle off with enemy taplands (izzet guildgate) but without any tie-ins to Ravnica, or any specific set for that matter.
Given that they printed the Refuge cycle I think the Invasion cycle is unlikely to return. Of course, the Refuges are linked to Zendikar so they'd need to make a new "extra feature" if they wanted to put them in an expert level expansion (indeed, this combined with the presence of the Shocklands was the origin of the Gates in the first place, as I understand it). Then again, the only reason Return to Ravnica needed the Gates (as opposed to a totally new dual land cycle like most sets have) was that they wanted something simple at common to supplement the rare Shocklands. That circumstance is unlikely to occur again soon, even in another multicolour block, because even if they can't make a new cycle to fit the bill, they could still reprint something (that wasn't an option in RtR because they didn't want to reprint two land cycles at once).
Gates might return if we ever see a Return to Return to Ravnica, though probably just one for "nostalgia" (think Glimmerpost).
Probably not. Gates were a block mechanic and normally you don't see block mechanics printed outside of the block (see snow permanents for Ice Age, buyback from Tempest or phasing from Mirage).
and Time Spiral block is filled with cards with buyback, and flanking, oh and slivers, and about a dozen other returning mechanics.
And speaking of slivers, they where a mechanic introduced in tempest, but have shown up in two blocks since. And their mechanic was the direct inspiration for the Allies of Zendikar.
In short, if WotC wants to revisit a mechanic, then they will do so. Doubly so if they can add a new twist to it.

I will go ahead and just be "that guy" at this point.
IF new Gates are going to be printed what would they actually add to the game?
Let's say M14 has a new Enchantment - Shrine in it. That's great for the players who were around during Kamigawa and have the other 5 shrines but for new players it does nothing unless there is other support for the card.
You could also look at it this way, using the Gate of Hell from earlier.
Gate of Hell
Land -Gate TB T Target creature gets -3/-3
or
Arch of Shadows
Land TB T Target creature gets -3/-3
Which land would be better suited for an environment that is completely removed from the Ravnica gates?
We could always see more gates, shrines, or Allies in a special product like we got more ninja in the Night of the Ninja Planechase deck but I would say that the chances are very low outside of something like that.

The Time Spiral block revisited all those keywords, even things like Shadow and Echo but that was just the whole point of the block, to bring up nostalgia.
Centaur Omenreader is probably a gimmick. It could or could not return. Unless there is an Ice Age-like block in the future, I don't see the snow permanents returning. It is possible, but it is for sure not an evergreen ability.
The thing is, snow is still fairly unexplored territory. So far we've only really had a handful of permanents with the type (pre-coldsnap only lands), and a small number of cards that care about the type. In Coldsnap we were finally given a "snow" mana symbol (:snow:), but other than a few activation costs, that wasn't really explored either. We could still get "snow" non-permanents, snow planeswalkers, and snow casting costs. To name a few.
It would not be a stretch to revisit a "frozen world" theme again in the future, but twist it in such a way that it would become very different from Ice Age. One idea would be a world in a real ice age rather than one created by a magical disaster, complete with cave dwellers, and pre-historic beasts such as the Brontotherium, just to give an example.
Another idea would be to visit a world where half is frozen in eternal winter and the other half is in an eternal summer, dealing with the duality of such a world.
The mechanic is full of potential and possibilities.

I wouldn't hold my breath on any gates. Wizards is so bad with gimmick-mechanic continuity, I doubt they'll have any gates in theros, regardless of how reasonable an idea it is to link RtR with it, thematically.

Well, we might get a few. After all, Theros by all accounts is based on Greek myth, and that is quite rife with gates of various types, particularly to the underworld (which had ten, if I recall correctly. The one guarded by Cerberus was actually the easiest one to pass, thus why most heroes went through it, another was guarded by a dragon).

They are pretty generic, but I think most people found them boring.
They are common mana fixing in land form, of *course* they are generic. >.<
That doesn't mean they are bad however, just that they are easy to get.
The gates are essentially a completed 10 card cycle of the invasion tap lands with a subtype tacked on thus allowing for shenanigans with cards that care about that subtype, at common!

Maze's End does say ten or more gates with different names.
But there are only 10 different gates at this moment
Covering their bases. Note that it needn't be an actual printed gate, it could be an effect that simply alters a land's subtypes for example (I believe that at present all such effects are limited to basic land types, but it's conceivable that such a card might one day be printed and they wouldn't want to have to worry about interactions with an obscure alternate win condition when it was)
