According to a thread started earlier tonight (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=443282), MaRo mentioned that the second 'walker in the set would be female and would be a planeswalker we've never met before. I'd say it'd be preposterous to not have Jace in this set with the first piece of promotional art featuring him. There goes Ral's chances of be a card this set.
At least as a planeswalker.
Would it be far-fetched to guess that perhaps RTR is taking place BEFORE Ral's spark ignites? It might be something like what happened with Ajani and the Alara block. Perhaps Ral will be featured as a character (a second Izzet legend after Niv maybe?) in RTR. This could set up a place in the story for him for his spark to ignite DURING the block's storyline, and perhaps we'd then get a card of him as a PW later on. Maybe during Sinker, maybe in a later block.
I don't think WotC would miss this opportunity for incorporating one of new 'walkers into a storyline that he'd fit extremely well in.
No Izzet "coverage" in Gatecrash.. so.. i think would make more sense in "Sinker"
Honestly, I think that would be precisely the reason that he would be in Gatecrash instead of "Sinker". WotC is always taking pains to point out how planeswalkers aren't tied down to things that creatures are tied to. Tezzeret and Karn aren't artifacts, Nicol Bolas isn't a dragon, and so on. If he were in RTR or "Sinker" people would get the false idea that Ral Zarek is still Izzet instead of a RU planeswalker with Izzet roots.
I think Izzet fanboys need to get a new hobby outside of speculating that Ral will be in every new set released forever.
Not going to happen any more than the Kiora Atua fanboys (like me) will hope that she finally gets a card in an upcoming set.
WotC are quite aware of the popularity or Ral and Kiora, despite neither having a card printed (yet). Thus it is not a question of if they will be getting cards, but when they will be getting cards.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
If there's a UR planeswalker, I think it will be Jace. It doesn't make sense for both the planeswalkers in RTR to be associated with Izzet, and Ral Zarek is likely on a playmat for RTR Game Day, so he's likely to be in the first set. [ http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=441608 ] Gotta agree with the legendary creature idea.
Not a good point. Walker color is completely independent on anything else in the set. They could put a walker with WWWW as the cost in a mono-black set.

Have you actually read the article that you are linking to? If anything it points towards Jace *not* being UR. >.<

For this topic it doesn't matter if the new Jace card is actually UR; he's working with the Izzet League, and I think we can all agree that it'd be unreasonable to expect both RTR planeswalkers to be associated with the same guild.

No he is not. He is *monitoring* the Izzet guild because he is curious to what the goal of Niv-Mizzet is. He is not working with them.

I'd say this is quite possible. We already know that Niv has sat to work on a massive guild wide project consisting of hundreds of parts different sections of the guild are working on (more than likely the manufacturing of an artificial spark). This, mixed with the guilds reckless self experimental nature, add up to Ral using himself as a test subject for Nivs pet project and the project working or at the least pre-maturely igniting Ral's spark.

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"
2/2
1 Ral showing up as legendary in RTR. 2 Gatecrash has Gideon + other PW. Niv-Mizzet has big villanous plans. 3 In 'sinker' Ral ascends, kicks Niv-Mizzet's butt, disassemble all the guilds and takes control as Ravnica's Emperor.

YOU ARE SURPRISED BY A MANTICORE! IT QUICKLY SHREDS YOUR FLESH AND DEVOURS YOU!
At least as a planeswalker.
