Is there a praetor appearance here you think? I've heard rumblings of Sheoldred.
EDIT: Isn't New Capenna the "core set" of the year?

it’s suppose to be “dominaria United” but I don't think we have to worry about a powered down to that level and be similar to the first revisit in years
and I still don't know why people are claiming it’s correlation because jin and Vorinclex was exactly a year apart and that’s how they will do the praetor
i Expect a praetor here just because elsepth will be here and her involvement with phyrexians is nearly as big as teferi and karn (they literally caused her spark to ignite torturing her on her home plane and not only that elsepth was present when mirrodin was being taken over by the phyrexian)
Easy guess: Treasures will be a minor subtheme. First reason being that vehicles and artifacts are easy includes in a Art Deco / Gangster set and Treasures are flavorful support for potential artifact matters. Second reason being that we have a card named Contract Killing and it not being reprinted in a gangster set would be criminal.
Far stretch guess: It has been discussed in previous threads before, but I'm onto the idea of New Capenna being a city in Alara. It matches the only two tidbits of lore we have (ties with Elspeth, demons invaded a previously angel-centric town) and the multicolor theme of the set. The biggest clue however may be this old article that stealthily showcases how drastically Grixis changed over the years in the art of Curse of Disturbance.
As for mechanics, Detain and Investigate could be good fits, but if I had to guess we'll be getting a new mechanic akin to Monarch where players fight over a mutual resource. Monarchy itself doesn't really fits the flavor of gangster set, but maybe a new variant where players take control of something by casting multiple spells a turn or having a high permanent count.
They said this was gonna be an "old style" faction set where each faction has it own mechanic and game play, so likely we only gonna see the 5 and maybe a 6th they all share (al la morph/manifest/megamorph in Tarkir). So I think it better to try and think what they could so with the three colors this time around. Peornsally I'm not sure what to think until we know for sure if its shards, wedges or a mix.
EDIT: Isn't New Capenna the "core set" of the year?
It is taking the slot of a core set but appearty the role of a core set (reprint and being a set more for new players) is gonna be used else where (for what they haven't said yet)
It shouldn't be. I think this set will have the 5 commander Decks, right? At least Strixhaven and Ikoria were both the April Set.
Nothing confirmed on this and it seems likely the commander decks this year are the UB ones :/
For White/Green there is Calix, too.
True true but we haven't gotten the reunion between Ajani and Elspeth yet (nor seen Ajani since War of the Spark) so that why I'm thinking that. Calix is also tricky unless one the faction is enchantment base, similar to why we don't see Tezzeret (besides wots and core sets) outside of sets with an artifact theme.

They seems to be having a bunch of separate storylines that all seem to be leading to a phyrexian war;
We have the Kenrith twins with Kasmina and Lukka (Eldraine, Ikoria and Strixhaven), its the least tied but I think its likely Kasmina group is preparing for phyrexia, Elspeth story which is heavily tied to Phyrexia (Theros 2 and Capenna), seeming random gatewatch stories (thought maybe just to check in on them after Wots?) with hints already the group already preparing for a Phyrexia fight (Zendikar 3 and Innistrad 3) and the praetors showing up (Kaldheim and Kamigawa).
So while I do think we will see praetors or compealted walkers popping up I do think we will some of these stories progress without necessarily a Phyrexian physically popping up (such as Innistrad where Teferi just warns Arlinn of them).

Oh forgot to add in my last post, I do think we will see a praetor or compleared walker here to show Elspeth the new dangers of phyrexia being able to go to other planes.

I can’t see ajani getting compleated.
I think the short list of characters that won’t are Karn, teferi, jace, Chandra, nissa and Ajani.
Garruk seems like a good candidate
I think tibalt and Rowan/will kenrith are in the most danger
99% sure Vorinclex never took out that seed he planted in tibalt and could use that seed to do jin new technique (if jin is even willing to give the instructions to the other 4 factions in phyrexia especially since he hates Vorinclex)
And for Rowan Crackle with Power part of the story was almost a teaser Rowan could go evil down the line and phyrexians use her rage to their advantage
So I've already written an extensive document detailing my predictions for the families themselves and how they interact with the world, which I'll attach images of below, but here are some preliminary predictions:
Planeswalkers are W Elspeth, G Calix, and BR Ob Nixilis (Maro has mentioned that BR is his real colour identity.)
Each families will be a shard, however, to distance New Capenna from Alara, the families will interpret their colours differently.
Shards of Alara and Ikoria both approached their three-colour factions/locations the 'typical' way, in which the central colour of the shard/wedge is the primary colour (i.e. Esper = WUB = primary U, Savai = BWR = primary W); Streets will subvert this by interpreting the shards the same way Khans of Tarkir interpreted the wedges, with the leftmost colour being primary, rightmost being secondary, and centre being tertiary.
With that logic, Not-Esper is W, B, U; Not-Grixis is U, R, B; Not-Jund is B, G, R; Not-Naya is R, W, G; and Not-Bant is G, U, W.
This abnormal interpretation of the shards will, like Strixhaven's re-examination of the enemy colour pairs last year, provide extra depth to them and quite delight the players.
Hideaway will return in its new form revealed in the Secret Lair, and will be available to all colours.
We will have Shard trilands at Rare to 'complete' the Triomes, however they will have Hideaway instead of Cycling and represent the main base of operations for each family.
Hideaway will not be the only returning mechanic, however it will be the only 'smoothing' mechanic (no Investigate/Cycling/Surveil).
Following below are my breakdowns of each of the five families.
Thinking about the 3rd Planeswalker if Ajani or Calix... I believe story wise it is more plausible that Calix will be there. He planeswalked after her in the Theros story. Maybe he can't even planeswalk freely and is bound in some kind of way to Elspeth. While Ajani doesn't even know that she is around again.
I don't think that a missing Enchantment mechanic/focus will be a big problems. He will be a mythic card, therefore the problem is less present in limited and standard has enough enchantment matter cards and even some enchantment creatures. In Zendikar Rising Nahiri, Heir of the Ancients was a thing and she had like 6? equipment cards to work with in limited environment.
I can’t see ajani getting compleated.

I don't know how I would feel about that. Rowan has become my favourite PW mainstay and if she goes evil then I don't know...Storywise it's a cool idea but I think she's too much like Chandra to give in to the dark side.

Each families will be a shard, however, to distance New Capenna from Alara, the families will interpret their colours differently. Correct
Following below are my breakdowns of each of the five families.
The Obscura are looking for players to gather intel and play the long con for their cause—promote their deck to players who love strategizing and saving their big reveals for later in a match.
The Maestros
The Maestros believe crime is an art form and want players who will help them win no matter the cost. Promote their deck to players who take pleasure in massacring their opponents.
The Riveteers
The Riveteers are artisans who always finish the job—quickly. Promote their deck to players who prioritize high-speed, hard-hitting attacks in their matches.
The Cabaretti
The Cabarettis love to party—the more people, the better. Promote their deck to players who love to gather and play loads of low-cost creatures.
The Brokers
The Brokers favor brains over brawn: if you don't read their fine print, you may be in trouble. Promote their deck to players who believe a solid defense is the greatest offense.
So this might give a idea on mechanics

If you wanna go fully in would also destroy or deal damage (depending if this card is B or R) to the creatures that crewed it.

I ask because that might be a benchmark for when they spill the beans on the plane where New Capenna is.
