With what little we have to go on right now, based on the art and the formal invitations, I'm guessing an Arthurian / Chivalric Romance traditional High Fantasy set, and that it will be Kasmina's home plane. (She is a wizard who trains other wizards, so she could easily be the world's Merlin analogue.)
the reference to "courts" has me thinking about the chronicles of amber. i could see the central plot revolving around an aristocratic power void. perhaps the old king has died and his three children all want to take over.
is that what game of thrones is about? is this a game of thrones thing?

All of this feels quite plausible, honestly. Good job.
I definitely see a succession crisis underlining the story. The name kinda spells it out.
If the set isn't about Faeries though, then why did they use Faeries for the art as opposed to, say, knights or a royal? Assuming of course we're talking Arthurian legend and not something more fairy tale-focused. Which, considering we just got done with an epic war and a hero with a sword, maybe they're swinging for something closer to Lorwyn?

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
If the set isn't about Faeries though, then why did they use Faeries for the art as opposed to, say, knights or a royal?
Think about the Arthurian myth. The fae-aspect is important and present, but the main actors are lords and ladies, knights and wizards. But you don't put the knight on your coat of arms or letter paper, you put the mystical creature there - a griffin, maybe, a serpent, or a faerie. That's what's happening here. We get some in-world iconography, but that doesn't mean that the creature type Faerie has to be a big focus in the set.
MaRo has just been burnt with not regulating expectations early enough and people going off into an entirely wrong direction from a tangent. I think, what he's telling us is: The Faeries on this thing aren't going to be as representative of the prominence of Faeries as the Dinosaurs on Ixalan promotional material were.
Imagine them using a lion coat of arm and everyone speculating about the return of leonin and more cat-tribal, while we'll actually get a bunch of Human Knight creatures riding leotaus. He is just trying to warn us not to expect Lorwyn-levels of Fae-support. Doesn't mean that the faerie-imagery isn't justified.
Yeah, I'm guessing Eldraine is the Lorwyn-replacement setting. Elves, fairies, etc., but also humans. Too bad, Lorwyn, we hardly knew ye.
I can't think of a mechanical theme that:
has not already been claimed by a plane to which we will likely return;
has not been done recently;
would be a good thematic fit for a Lorwyn-replacement setting,
other than maybe instants & sorceries, which doesn't belong to any particular plane yet AFAIK, and which we haven't really seen in the limelight since Magic Origins. And, I guess that could fit with the Kasmina speculation.
That said, I'm going to guess that any major mechanical themes will be subordinate to a more top-down approach to world creation. Kind of like how tribal was a cornerstone for Ixalan but not the entire building. That seems to be the way they do it these days.
I'm thinking, based on partial reveal, that this new mechanic will be generic alternative casting costs to get a different card. Could be some powerful stuff here.
I'm thinking it's an ability you activate later, to finish their story so to speak.

The "Storybook Creature" card frame previewed in Goldilocks gave me the feel of a "card within a card". It has a secondary cost (positioned on the right, implying that there may be text on the left, maybe the mechanic's name or even a secondary card name), a green bar tall enough to fit text but too short to be anything but one or two words tops (which I assume could be a secondary card type) and a distinct secondary text box, about the same size as a Saga chapter.
My "boring" guess would be Creatures that are also Instants/Sorceries (so basically Split cards where one of the halves is a Creature). My other guess would be the creature being able to cast its "secondary spell" if certain conditions are met. Considering this is Goldilocks we're talking, maybe said spell could create Bears? I dunno.

I have now seen four seemingly independent sources coming to the conclusion that the left side is a tiny card within a card with no other nearly as good idea having come forward for several days, and it works extremely well indeed. Whether it's an alternative mode (like a split card) or a "virtual spell" you can play once as long as the permanent is on the battlefield (similar to monstrosity) it seems incredibly likely that this is a "card-within-a-card" just by the fact that the frame design naturally leads to such an interpretation.
I personally think the monstrosity variant is likely - you get the main character of a story and for some mana you can "tell their tale" which is an instant or sorcery printed on the card - and likely the abilities of the character change once their tale has been told.
In a way it would be DFC-like but cheaper on the printing since it's realized with renown/monstrosity tech on a SFC.
The neat thing is that "tales" mechanically fit both with fairy tales and stories of knightly valor.

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
I'm guessing cards with the storybook mechanic enter the battlefield with, say, a tale counter on them which you remove as part of their ability cost. Thus, it's by default a one-shot effect much like the old Myojin cycle from Kamigawa, but thanks to War of the Spark's proliferate you will actually be able to reuse the story effect by putting additional tale counters on the cards in question. That said, I expect green and blue will have the largest number of cards with this mechanic.

I expect Sagas to return with Theros following Throne of Eldraine. Sagas would be perfect for Theros, as a distinct enchantment type that can easily represent myths, legends, and odysseys. And hey, what better way to follow up the Fairy Tale plane than with the Greek Mythology plane?

Also the sagas were done with existing lore instead of New lore (except for like 1+ of them) soo they have done them with stories we know for nostalgy.
Theros has alot of background lore of the feats of heroes and also from the gods and monsters.
We know that Polukranos was a hydra that destroyed a city then got trapped by Nylea and the other gods (or make it before getting killed by Elspeth) <- good for a saga imo (maybe a saga that you put a creature from your hand into play then it fights then you shuffle it into your deck)
We know the Story of the city Heliod destroyed <- maybe a saga that you destroy creatures with power 4 or more, then 3 or less, then you destroy a land.
There are alot of potential lore for sagas but if we indeed return to Theros i want to see the evil Archons from the past...
As I've said before, I expect sagas to return with the much anticipated Norse set that has gotten a lot of attention on these forums. They could work for Eldraine, but I don't think it's really the place for it. I wouldn't be against it for Theros though.
Sagas won’t be returning with this set. Mark said that they will return in the future
MaRo specifically just said 'they will return'. He has also said 'maybe' about sagas specifically returning in ELD. It's not at all off the table.
Mark says maybe to a lot of things, mainly because the asker specifically asks for a maybe. I wouldn't read too much into it, as the alternative is probably Mark saying no to a lot of things. And considering Sagas fall under the "Historic" banner and Eldraine is a new-to-us plane, it's unlikely the set will include much of its' history on the first go-round.
Also, it's probably also unlikely they'd do two different alternate-layout cards in the same set.
I do like the idea of the Storybook cards being a Monstrosity variant.
My speculation for the set is that the timeline is concurrent with GRN/RNA/WAR. Not too significant, but it might explain the sudden change of focus and the lack of Gatewatch.

There's no reason sagas have to appear alongside Historic.

I pretty sure this the case. The Kenrith were not in War so them (and any other walker) will need a reason to why they didn't show up. Or we might get new walkers who where apart of the war just not seen by us.

I don't see why Sagas couldn't and shouldn't be in any and every set. They are awesome and would help tell the lore of any plane we are on. I see nothing "particular or specific" about Sagas that preclude them from being in any set.

I hope Faerie tribal is the WU draft theme. They're small fliers, so they already fit WU, and fairy tales often have good fairies in them, like the Blue Fairy, the Fairy Godmother, The Three Good Fairies, and Tinker Bell. Also see fairies in The Legend of Zelda.

This makes me think, it could be in Eldraine. Sagas make sense for the fairy tale and arthurian story-telling theme. A larger enchantment theme, even, would make sense for this world.
Would it be a little too soon to see Sagas in ELD?
