I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
No name grunts don't count as meaningful deaths at all. As for the Gods, not main characters.
A single death is tragedy, one million deaths is a statistic.
I suppose the problem with Guild Commands or Guild Charms is it concentrates a lot of power in a few cards. This is especially bad when you have to make 10 instead of 5 and also when you consider they want unique abilities on each one. Which hurts some color combos more then others. I think if you are going to do 4 abilities for 10 you are going to need some serious overlap or some Guilds are going to get the good stuff and others are going to be left holding the bag of crap.
Not that this isn't a problem with Charms as Boros is super overpowered compared to the rest.
Or Commands where Kologhan's Command reigns supreme...wow its good to be Red.
The commands don't need to have 4 abilities like the others. They can do 3 like the charms but give you 2 choices. Yes there will still be some overlap but not as much
Eh Guild Leaders, Guild Champs, Guild Charms, Guild Commands, and Guild Ascendancy...well I guess they got room if they don't color balance this for draft at at all.

How isn't the set color balanced? Each color has two guilds to it. Unless you mean we don't see all ten color pairs in draft, if thats that case thats always what happens in multicolor sets. I really wasn't expecting to draft enemy color cards in Dragons of Tarkir or Alara and I wasn't looking at ally colors for Khans of Tarkir draft.

Fair enough. I wonder if we get a Walker in every color pair to celebrate....
For Guilds this seems easy...Tezzeret (UB), Vraksa (BG), Ral Zarek (UR), Ajani (GW)....and RW? Could be Gideon I guess but his Black Blade acquisition suggest BW. Koth maybe? I mean Ajani should technically know him with only one degree of separation via Elspeth. Might be good to reintroduce with New Phyrexia on the horizon. Could be new.
Then Allegiance Teferi (UW), Gideon (BW) thanks to a corrupting influence from his blade, Gruul??? Domri Rade or Chandra she seems drifting in this direction (RG) but we got a lot running around in this section of the color pie...and then Rakdos and Simic are pretty open.
Oh and one thing to remember, even if storywide Vraska gets to be guild leader, I think we will still see guild leader for the cycle purposes and for commander/brawl. They did the same with Ral and Melek last time.

I expect we'll get PWs of enough variety that every guild will be able to play at least one. Between the three sets, I expect to see Gideon, Ral, and Bolas all show up, and likely Jace too seeing as he is the Living Guildpact and all. Vraska is quite possible, and Ajani will likely be included to counterbalance Bolas.
8-9 walkers seems like a reasonable number between three sets. Though, figuring out the right combination to ensure every guild gets to play a PW is tricky.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
The end of the Return to Ravnica arc left off with many guilds having at least one defector each, so I believe each guild will have a cycle not only of legendary Guild Leaders, but also of legendary Guild Defectors.
Orzhov: Teysa Karlov. Last seen she was captured after a failed insurrection against the Ghost Council, as was Tajic.
Izzet: Ral Zarek. Not confirmed, but hinted at. He is currently working for Nicol Bolas for unknown reasons, but it's pretty easy to infer it's to aid him in the seige of Ravnica. Couple that with Ral's inflated ego and him not having very high thoughts on Niv-Mizzet, and his betrayal of the Firemind shouldn't really come to a surprise.
Golgari: Vraska and her Kraul agents. The Ixalan Block outlined all that pretty extensively.
Boros: Feather. Not confirmed, but I doubt she'll sit idly by as Aurelia sits high and mighty as the Boros Guild Leader after turning the entire guild against its former hero.
Selesnya: Ruzi. An ex-Selesnyan wolf-rider disenchanted with the concept of Guilds. He seeks vengeance for his fallen sister who was bullied by the Gruul for adopting one of their babies and then killed by the Rakdos assassin Massacre Girl for unknown reasons.
Azoruis: Lavinia. Far from confirmed, but she's not particularly thrilled about her current position as deputy of the Guildpact, and she doesn't see eye to eye with Isperia oftentimes, so maaaaybe Lavinia is one bad day away from wanting to usurp the Azorius Senate.
Gruul: None confirmed, but there's always been constant in-fighting for the right to be the Gruul guild leader. Borborygmos is said to be waning in his old cyclopean age, so that may embolden even more Gruul members to fight.
Not thinkin of a cycle here, but what about Vehicles ? Ravnica has a high enough technological level to have em too. Im confident though after Kaladesh, Ixalan & Dominaria had em d:)
I can easily see Commands. Sure there will be overlap, but the same would be true for Charms or anything else. And if they do Commands, they will stick to 4 modes and choose two. I can easily see them beeing WWUU or something like that to make them different to the Dragonlord Commands. Other option is to make Confluences?
If they do charms I am absolutey sure they just make reprints or they go another way and make them like Escalate (Blessed Alliance etc.) which would be cool also.
walker stuf......
I've been tinkering on the commands, the first guilds to make there apperance are Golgari, Simic, Izzet, Boros and Orzhov. Those color combinations have yet to recieve a command in the multicolored cycle. As a sultai player i have very high hopes for a modern playable Simic one Golgari i'm not sure about, that might push existing strategies to much.
They haven't, but I would bet my savings on it. There is just no way they will go back to Ravnica and not fulfill that expectation. Also, the full 10 card cycle of checklands are in Standard, that can't be a coincidense.
I thought maybe they might reprint the RTR/GTC cycle of charms, but then I remembered how horribly oppressive Azorius Charm was. everyone remembers UW Control for Supreme Verdict, Revelation and Elixir, but Azorius Charm was every bit as important for that deck as those cards.

A Golgari Command would have to be incredibly powerful for it to earn spots over other Jund cards. It could be at a power level where it’s playable but the pros don’t include it in their Jund lists.
Like, Abzan charm is modern playable, but doesn’t see play in Junk.
I agree about the commands being a great potential inclusion.
Tarkir block gave us ally color commands, so it would be nice to get enemy color commands. I'd strongly hope they'd make as many of them modern playable as possible, as close to being modern useful like Kolaghan's Command as they can be.
Might also be interesting to see something perhaps inspired by the Ultimatum cycle but for 2 color cards, perhaps with costs along the lines of WWWUUU for big sorcery cards, or get guild team-up ultimatums to complete the ultimatum cycle with the wedge versions that we didn't get in Tarkir block, perhaps hinting at the guilds working together to fight against Bolas' forces, such as an Azorious, Izzet, and Boros team up for Jeskai color combo, something like:
Structural UltimatumWWUURRR Sorcery
Scry X, where X is the number of enchantments you control. Then draw a number of cards equal to the number of artifacts you control. Then deal damage to each opponent and each creature and planeswalker you don't control equal to the number of lands you control.
or for a Golgari, Orzhov, and Selesnya team-up:
Sustenance UltimatumWWBBBGG Sorcery
Gain life equal to twice the number of lands you control. Draw a card for each creature you control. Exile all cards from graveyards you don't control, then create a 1/1 black, white, and green fungus spirit token with vigilance for each creature exiled this way.
Maybe create some shard color combo 'ascendancy' type cards, like a grouping of Selesnya, Azorious, and Simic team-up for an enchantment:
Harmonious AscendancyWUG Enchantment
At the start of your upkeep, if you control two or more creatures, gain life equal to the number of creatures you control.
Creatures you control have +0/+3 and vigilance.
At the start of your end step, scry X, where X is the number of creatures you control that dealt damage this turn.
Might also be interesting to see some special anti-Bolas stuff out of Selesnya in particular, due to the colors he isn't, and thus getting less cards instead dedicated to Bolas' forces in whatever set involves the conflict opening up, and the need for color balance in sets, with lesser hints of other guilds that contain white or green in their colors appearing slightly more often among the anti-Bolas forces than the ones that are only in Bolas colors, like Rakdos, Izzet, and Dimir, but to also see bits of even those guilds having anti-Bolas stuff showing up in the set just so Bolas's manipulations and magics and forces don't entirely dominate over the Ravnica elements, but still have Selesnya being the guild that gets the most anti-Bolas forces cards.
Might also be interesting to have the anti-Guild forces be a mix of those who are secretly Bolas influenced groups, and some who are genuine.
Also might be fun to see a multi-color Jace, possibly even a WWUUBBRRGG one that is deliberately mind-linking with a group of mages of all the guilds and channeling his guild-pact powers to try to fight Bolas with, or a law-magic guildpact mode Jace that is WU.
Might also be interesting to see Ugin and maybe working also with Karn turn up and lead a faction of Gateless/anti-guild people that Ugin influences and helps to have colorless based powers to help fight Bolas, perhaps freeing a bunch of bound spirits that Bolas would otherwise have hijacked from some of the guilds in a way that turns them colorless, and perhaps a few mages who have already been researching anti-guild magics and multi-color hate learning an extra trick to go full color hate and go colorless a bit, maybe helped a bit by Chandra with her lore hinted ability to do colorless fire similar to Ugin's breath.
If they do enemy guild commands, there have to be ally guild commands as well. They can always make a second cycle of enemy commands down the line to balance it out.

Don't the Boros have a spaceship or something? They should have some vehicles especially to transport all their non Angels around.
A guild-vehicle cycle in the vein of keyrunes would be very welcome. Three mana, adds one of two colors with a crew ability that turns into a creature with an evergreen keyword, or an ability that triggers upon combat damage to a player.
Yeah, I guess I could see that as the new rock cycle. Thing is, they need some manner of colored mana cost ability to push players towards drafting Vehicles in the proper guild. Perhaps tap for A or B, Crew N, and an AB activated ability? Then they're more like an evolution of Keyrunes. Say, what if they were designed such that each Keyrune can single-handedly crew the corresponding Vehicle when in creature mode? Though good luck with that Orzhov Crew 1 Vehicle...
Suddenly I'm getting a mental image of the Vehicles all being Guild-themed go-karts, Mario Kart-style. Well, they do have races on Ravnica...
The Azorius kart would be built for safety and control.
The Dimir kart would be outfitted with a cloaking device.
The Rakdos kart would be designed to go fast, and have lots of spikes. What's the point of racing if you're going to go slow and/or look dumb doing it?
The Gruul kart would be a cobbled-together Flintstonian bulldozer, built to smash if not necessarily have the best steering.
The Selesnya kart would be built with passengers in mind.
The Orzhov kart would be built for style, first and foremost. We're talking made of gold and decorated with gems and silk banners.
The Izzet kart would run on an experimental (and probably not dangerous) energy source with occasional bouts of spontaneous overload-powered turbo emissions.
The Golgari kart would be a big, icky bug.
The Boros kart would be built for combat, tough enough to take a direct hit from a Skarrg Goliath but fast enough to drive circles around it.
The Simic kart would run on experimental biofuel derived from plants.

A guild-vehicle cycle in the vein of keyrunes would be very welcome. Three mana, adds one of two colors with a crew ability that turns into a creature with an evergreen keyword, or an ability that triggers upon combat damage to a player.
Don't the Boros have a spaceship or something? They should have some vehicles especially to transport all their non Angels around.
And thus, Ravni-Kart is born!

Parhelion was a massive skyship, but it was never really used as a ship as such after it was first created. (Some Firemanes used it to try to find some missing planeswalkers, to no avail.)
