What do you all think the chances are of WotC doing OG Zendikar style treasures in at least the first print run off Dominaria? They could be played up as "historic relics of the past." Does anyone know the logistics of this, would it even be possible? Here's to hoping I open a beta black lotus at the pre-release!
LOL, it would be cool, but too unlikely to happen. That sort of stuff was heavily spoiled as marketing hype to get interest in the set. That's a curve ball that WotC is just not going to throw.
I think the team also said they're dipping into the vault for some side events later this year for the anniversary. It was on the mothership awhile back. If they were going to do it then it would have been announced then to garner additional hype. There have also been a bunch of openings of prerelease kits so far, so we may have seen something by now?
Either way it looks like feedback has been strong enough that this set doesn't need a gimmick to prop it up. It would have been a great place to do something like this though.
The first time around, Hidden Treasures wasn't announced. People started coming in with reports of opening Power or Duals or other such stuff after the pre-release, and the first few guys got dismissed as a hoax.
So there's a non-zero chance, but I wouldn't say it's particularly high. Masterpieces fill a similar slot (and similarly would have been a great way to show off Magic's history), but were left out of the set because it "didn't need them". Hidden Treasures is an even more rare and difficult-to-execute process.

It's actually the exact opposite way around. The first Masterpieces (retroactive Masterpieces since they didn't know back then (I´assume) that this would become a series) were the lands in BfZ-block; and they were almost certainly a reference to the "Treasures" of the original Zendikar-block: desirable cards added to boosters with a relative low chance to show up to boost excitement/sales.
Due to the fact that they had a better/earlier idea that they were doing them, the Treasures the second time around were not an assortment of old cards they had lying around (I also assume the number of old cards that happen to lie around didn't go up either), but newly printed cards that go well with the block's theme, so for the "land plane" we get lands.
As such it would make little sense to not have Masterpieces in a set and go back to the less reliable "cards we happen to find between the couch cushions" approach of the original "Treasures".
A personal assumption of mine is that Dominaria didn't get Masterpieces for a multitude of reasons (foremost being a predictably awesome set that doesn't need the boost), among them also the fact that the main set would already be so full of references that additional actual old cards would just go to the same well.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
