In an article for Commander 2017, I remember seeing the author write that from C17 forward, the Commander Deck Product Series would not be simply based on color pairs, but instead on themes, such as Tribal. Given this information I wonder what some of these future themes for the Commander Product Series would be!
Something like Planechase 2012, focusing on four keywords.
Card types: artifact deck, enchantment deck, land deck, instant/sorcery deck
Storyline themes: Four planes
Four old planeswalkers (say, Urza, Serra, Leshrac and Taysir)
Four sides from one story (Weatherlight saga: the Weatherlight crew, the Coalition forces, Volrath's minions, and Phyrexia proper).
Does commander have any anniversaries coming up? I could see a set of reimagined Elder Dragons as the face cards for a set; give them more of a mechanical identity and revisit magics history.
I could see them being used to supplement story-wise whatever is in standard, for example, 4 Ixalan legends from a past era with some connection to the world we see in standard (previous captains of named ships, young versions of current captains, rulers of now ruined kingdoms etc.)

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

I like the idea of using Commander sets to showcase specific historical figures on various planes outside of Dominaria. Some examples:
Alara: Asha, Cylia, Crucius, whoever was responsible for ripping the plane into five pieces
Old Phyrexia: The planeswalker who built the place
Kamigawa: Choryu, All-Consuming Oni of Chaos, The Sisters of Flesh and Spirit
Ravnica: The Guild founders that didn't get cards, especially Azor I
Shandalar: Kenan Sahrmal
Amonkhet: The threecorruptedGods in their original forms
Theros: The R/G god before Xenagod, Agnomakhos
Innistrad: Marycz, Shilgengar, the 4th Powerpuff Angel, maybe the last known Innistrad elf
I want to see more Planeswalker Commanders, specifically dual-colored ones. I would really like to see some characters who were never represented on actual cards, although it seems like Wizards has been doing that already. Bo Levar comes to mind, for those of you who remember who he was!
I was considering some themes they've only lightly treaded on in Past Commander decks... and other themes we have seen represented a few times over the years but never had a solid Commander to boost the synergy. I was thinking of these as being potential deck designs for future products:
BRG -1/-1 Counters WUG Blink WGR Auras UB Unblockable Sneaky Rogues and Shapeshifters, etc WUBRG Cycling! Any combination of these colors would work I suppose WUBRG Morph! RG Landfall, Land-Focused Deck GBW Saproling-Based Token Strategy with Ghave & New Treefolk/Fungus Friends.
I was always hoping for either new elder dragons or planeswalker versions of the 9 titans
Yeah they definitely should Revisit the Old Elder Dragons. Most players know Nicol Bolas, and maybe have seen the old Elder Dragon cards. Their old versions are pretty outdated considering their power level and artwork, and it would be really awesome to see them remade with unique abilities and artwork to show just how powerful they actually were. They could make Charms & Commands to go with them as well!
The Nine Titan planeswalkers would also be cool, but I can't see them making all of them. Urza feels off limits because of his God-Like status, although I assume anything is possible.

Does anyone know how the commander rules committee felt about the commander 2014 walkers or the origins flip walkers? It's been more than two years for the 2014 walkers you would think that they would fit them in more. People were expecting Urza to be one of the non-green commanders in 2016 and Sarkhan, Sorin, Bolas, Ugin, and Ajani could have fit easily into this years product. I'm just curious if they are not over doing it because they don't want to be disrespectful to the committee (if that is the case.)
I would not mind seeing the following:
Land destruction GR
Ultimate pillow fort GWU
Attrition RB
Taxes WU
Torpedo troll: 5 color deck designed to kill combo deck, the commanders are literally trolls designed to stop many forms of win conditions.
But most particularly a phyrexia focused deck which could equal a yawgmoth card.
that is actaully a very cool idea. or even each deck focused on a particular aspect of a plane.
Innistrad grixis curses
Zendikar naya landfall
theros bant encahntress
etc...

If they do a Phyrexia deck, I'd like to see a Karn, Father of Machines legend with a (W/P)(U/P)(B/P)(R/P)(G/P) ability so you can play five-color Phyrexians, using phyrexian mana no less. They could probably reprint Ramos, Dragon Engine in that deck since he is technically Phyrexian in origin. Ooh, and a Xantcha legend!
As for the Coalition, I'd like to see a General Tazri-style Gerrard.

I do like the idea of plane-based Commander decks. Keep in mind that the majority of cards will still be reprints, so they can't go anywhere too crazy, but any of the planes that have been visited multiple times would have a large selection to draw from (Innistrad, Zendikar, Ravnica, Mirrodin, Dominaria).

On MTGO as Protoman.
On 7/14/10, broke 1900 mark! <3 ROE.
Any theme for C18 will be like tribal more a block theme then a card theme. If artifact is the theme then we would get an equipment deck, a vehicle deck, a golem deck and a war machine (non creature artifacts that make it hard for anyone else to win) deck... all different takes on artifact...
I am looking forward to next year's product to see where they take it...

The problem is that they've done artifacts plenty of times. Maybe it's time for enchantments and spellslinging to catch up.

That was kind of my point. I would enjoy a 'villains' theme...

I think this was the sub-theme of the walker/commander set.
White went equipment
Blue went spells
Black went life totals
Red went Artifacts
Green went creatures
Then they didn't say anything because they decided the cycle wasn't strong enough to be a stand alone theme.
That said they also did the experience commander with a similar theme: Big creatures, little creatures, enchantments, and spells.

Multiplayer Decks- Memnarch - Animar, Soul of Elements - Zur, the Enchanter - Atraxa, Praetors' Voice - Food Chain Tazri - Teysa Karlov
Modern BUMill and Bant Spirits.
Thank you Xenphire for the signature!
I want to see a redemption of 5-color spirits
A deck that focuses on stopping all types of combos would be cool.
Land focus could happen
Enchantment deck would be nice (but at the same time could be god tribal since 15 out of 23 are enchantments.)
Atraxa is +1/+1 counters focused as default setting how about a -1/-1 version particularly in Jund
One last funny idea how about 5-color tribal.

Planes:
RG - Zendikar - Focuses on Landfall, Elementals, and lots of cards that pay out for having a lot of lands or huge mana sinks.
BC - Phyrexia - Focuses on the original Phyrexia, lots of sacrifice, killing, and a strong artifact theme. Lots of reanimation and recursion.
WUBRG - Alara - Focuses on Cascade, lots of weird cards from merging shards. Kind of a Good stuff/Weird Stuff deck.
WU - Palliano - Focuses more on ETBs and Blink, themed as if Brago was in charge of the City still. Kind of a political/oppression deck.
Random Stuff:
UB - Ninja Tribal - Featuring a lot of sneaky tricks and evasive tactics to sabotage your opponents.
RW - Artificer/Auramancers - Red/White needs some more design space, and I think something like this would be really fun and interesting.
RB - Minotaur Tribal - Like Ninjas, they just need more love. Give them some nice new monsters. Focused on sacrifice and aggro.

Wait wait wait.
Mirridon got taken over by/changed to new phyrexia
So shouldn't it be phyrexia?
Or why phyrexia is not on that list? I mean wouldn't that me the most requested villain to get a card yawgmoth could happen?
Mirrodin existed in the past, so it'd be eligible IMO.
Also, I think the best shot at Yawgmoth getting a card is when he was just a casual human, and not when he became the spike god of Phyrexia.
As a nitpick, Paliano is just a city-state. The plane's name is Fiora.
I'm not sure there's much need for another 4 artifact-focused Commander decks. We've already had quite a few:
C14: Daretti, Scrap Savant: Built from Scratch
C14: Nahiri, the Lithomancer: Forged in Stone (equipment theme)
C16: Breya, Etherium Shaper: Invent Superiority deck
C17: Even the cat tribal deck ended up with an equipment theme.
Even C13: Oloro, Ageless Ascetic: Eternal Bargain has a minor artifact subtheme with Sydri, Galvanic Genius and Sharuum the Hegemon
So basically, anything but artifacts, ideally.
