I get emails from Hasbro w/ job openings all the time. I see all sorts of job listings, from design team position to marketing jobs.
This is the first time I have ever seen the word "augmented" mentioned. The forefront of entertainment is divided among virtual reality and augmented reality. So this info is no surprise to me. The general public has gotten clues about future project from the hiring pages of game companies, such as what has been found on the Blizzard Entertainment website.
If I am wrong w/ my guess, what else can it be for?
P.S. - if this is wrong forum, feel free to move this thread.
well honestly the thing that would make the game "level up" for me is some sort of webcam/playmat combo that i could put on my desk & automatically recognises card faces, so i can use paper cards as digital objects, and play people online with paper magic cards.
i honestly have no idea why they haven't explored this route before. it would be a huge game-changer for many people who can't always get together due to geographical distance or time.

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
I am going to speculate a wild guess. Eventually the Masterpieces will be a thing of the past and "hologram" ultra rares/mythics will be the thing w/ AR glasses, where something on the card will activate an animation. Could be the angle it is viewed at w/ a timer to animate once per five minutes.
The options are (almost) endless when a new field of design is created.
Or, since it is an "augmented play job" it could have something to do w/ pre-release/release events or the Pro Tours... or even for fancy-shmancy booths at conventions.

That would be so cool. I would absolutely love to play online while retaining the oh so addictive feeling of cards between my fingers. Though I guess only rules enforcement stops us from doing this with Skype already, and I have no idea how they could possibly stop us from playing with fak- uh, "high quality proxies".
Something easy and simple: an app for cell that recognizes a card and opens the rules section of the gatherer, anything more complex is outside of WotC possibilities. (Especially if you look at how crappily they manage their site and mtgo).
Imagine how much easier this would be for judges.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
The job description does not suggest this is related to MtG, but it could be. They say:
Hasbro’s Integrated Play team (iPlay) develops new and exciting ways to play by fusing physical and digital together. We create mind-blowing experiences to engage kids of all ages in immersive brand-focused experiences such as Disney’s Star Wars, Marvel & Princess, Transformers, Nerf, My Little Pony, Monopoly etc. and give life to products such as Drop Mix, Play-Doh TOUCH, and Furby connect.
Maybe they are branching out to trading card games. Maybe not.
... ahem. If this is a thing it probably won't show up till like 2025. Still, I'm going to buy it to enhance my experience if it's a thing and ends up cool.

That would be so incredibly cool! I don't get to play as often anymore, the two nearest stores both went under, so online would make more sense, but I don't want to get rid of my physical cards (especially for something that sucks as bad as current mtgo) and I can't afford to do both.if they could release something like that and have it be semi-affordable, that would be so excellent for me

I agree. Too much is being injected into a job posting.
This isn't Hasbro's first foray into technology driven toys.
And given all the complaints regarding MTGO, Gatherer and other WotC non-paper products, I would find it more likely they would hire a more experienced 3rd party to develop a MtG specific product. Much like the recent Cryptic Studios announcement.

The email I received is ONLY related to Magic: the Gathering positions. Also, the job location is Renton, Washington, where WotC headquarters is located.
