I'm envisioning a riff on the "command tax matters" theme and imagining X-cost commanders with tribal support that scales with the amount of mana spent to cast them.
Seems unlikely given they've retired the card type.
For Standard-legal products, sure. But literally never say never for supplementals. It's unlikely, but not impossible (i.e. anything other than ante or dexterity cards is probably fair game).
NAME costs 1 less to cast for each [TRIBE TYPE] creature you control.
This mechanic could be on legendary creatures or support cards.
Example:
Krenko's Inspiration6RRR
Enchantment [R] Krenko's Inspiration costs 1 less to cast for each goblin creature you control.
Goblins you control have haste, menace and double strike.
I'm pretty sure MaRo is firmly against using Tribal as a card type again on new cards in the future, even in supplemental products. We may see some All is Dust or Tarfire in Goblins or even Eyeblight's Ending, but if you're expecting new Tribal cards you're in for a load of disappointment.

No I don't exspect new ones
I'm just saying we will see these reprints if we get the specific tribes of the tribal cards
I like my zombie and elf spells being more than just a creature spell. Those tribes have their own distinct magical way of doing things. Why can this not be represented int he game and have an effect?

somethingyetgrows asked: does a card type no longer being supported mean it can't show up on new cards in supplemental products? in other words, are there any type tribal cards in commander 2017?
We no longer make new cards with the Tribal type.
No new ones. Which also means that tribal card type is not going to be the Commander-related "gimmick" the OP is talking about - since the gimmick necessarily would be something showing up in the new cards.
The best question then is: What effects work only/best both in tribal decks and in Commander? Maybe some tribal convoke or offering (or similar) ability on a cycle of commanders? Tribal affinity would help counteracting commander tax.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Tribal affinity sounds pretty fun, if harder to balance than other gimmick keywords. "Affinity returns!" is also a good selling point in general - it's considered one of the top most powerful keywords, yet it's much simpler to balance than, say, storm or dredge: Just put it on things with colored mana costs and make sure that the cheapest-possible-version isn't going to break anything.
Marzan, God of WarXWR
Legendary Creature -- Human God
Indestructible, Vigilance Exemplify -- When Marzan, God of War is cast, create a number of 1/1 red and white Soldier creature tokens equal to the amount of mana spent to cast Marzan.
Marzan, God of War can only attack or block if a Soldier creature came under your control since the beginning of your most recent turn.

Boo. They should stop supporting Planeswalkers then. No one likes those. >:{
The only gimmicky thing thing they could do is either when you cast a creature of that spell, when that creature does a thing, when that creature dies.
There is no gimmicky-ness possible with creature spells. Could this be the return of Amplify? Probably not as it is a pretty lame mechanic with almost no depth. I fully expect it to be some silly Convoke thing. "your elf monsters can help cast elf spells,blah-blah" As if that's even needed in broken mana land of Commander.

I expect at least one of the new legends in each deck to have some kind of tribal mechanic, stuff like "Elves you control have 'T: Add one mana of this creature's color to your mana pool'" or "Noncreature spells you cast cost 1 less to cast for each Wizard you control." (examples taken from my WUBRG tribal Commander designs)
I would guess each of the featured tribes is given two mechanical themes, and the two Commanders in the deck each care about one of those themes. For example, let's say you have WBG Elves with mana ramp and +1/+1 counter themes; the lead Commander probably cares about +1/+1 counters while the secondary legend supports mana ramp. Another example could be RW Warriors with aggro and Equipment. The lead Warrior supports aggro with a mechanic like Battle Cry, while the secondary focuses instead on Equipment.
Another option would be to combine one race with one class, like Elves and Archers or Zombies and Wizards. Again, you're looking at two mechanical themes, just with the creature types being more specialized yet synergistic.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

What are your guesses?
I want more tribal spells.
Selling some cards I don't want.
Generally less than tcg mid.
Seems unlikely given they've retired the card type.
