This seemed to be directed towards Amonkhet. It seem to suggest that Elves and Merfolks are out. Cat people are in. Desert, Oasis or a Desert Oasis land. Maybe a Cat God. Sand Dunes. Arid Climate (seemed to kill non zombies). A Salamander God?
How late are you??? And what fool did you listen to???
It's a comic. It is supposed to be comical, not factually correct. The sentiment of the comic was reflected well enough - though hyperbolically.
Not really. Wizards uses these comics to spoil hints. Some of the hints are easy (no elves no merfolk). Hint is easy because sets like these (that plays outside of the European myths that the elves/merfolks are dropped). Sure some of the hints are a little tricky (like the cat character saying he/she is going to be worshiped - A cat God). And there are a few words in the dialog that suggest the deck is almost zombie themed. It's fun stuff.

Do they? Can you point to previous evidence that they use this to spoil hints? This is the first time I've seen these comics so pointing out past use would be very helpful.

No... the comic hints no elves and no merfolks. I also believe there is going to be a cat god.
