After looking at the new images that we got from the mothership, i came along a few interesting questions:
Why are the planeswalker decks Liliana vs Gideon? These decks normally feature two enemy planeswalkers.
Why is Liliana sitting and enjoying her grapes worshipped like a new Cleopatra (what a sneaky smile), in a plane that she is supposed to have arrived for the first time?
Finally, why is she missing from the Archenemy box art?
Has she been manipulated by Bolas to turn against the Gatewatch, or has she been his secret agent, misdirecting and leading the Gatewatch into a trap from the beginning?
Idk, my mind is pretty messed up, since i want a plot twist soooo bad
1. The very first planeswalker decks were Nissa and Chandra. It doesn't mean there's rivalry between them.
2. This isn't her first time there. We know that she went to Amonkhet (or at least somewhere similar) to meet Razaketh as one of the four demons to make a pact with.
3. Jace is also absent from the box for Archenemy, so I'm not sure that it's actually insinuating something.
I feel that there's going to be something pretty impactful this block, but I feel that Lili turning on the Gatewatch isn't going to be it.
I personally think that Gideon will die to save the rest of the gatewatch and Liliana's situation with the Chain Veil will become more dire.

Amonkhet feels like a trap, perhaps it's not a coincidence that Liliana has a demon there and could be setup by Bolas. I feel like she will get in the way more than anything. Hopefully she will throw the gatewatch under the bus to get what she wants. Wishful thinking
Liliana likes Jace too much to turn on the Gatewatch, and I have a bit more faith in WotC creative than to expect the Gatewatch will just be a nonblack coalition.
I'm actually looking forward to when they will get another black-based 'walker joining in. Maybe Vraska will be swayed. Possibly a new character. It could be the anticipated Sphinx planeswalker is UB
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Just cuz someone ditches the team, gets mummy servants, and eats fruit in the lap of luxury doesn't make them evil. I think it's just Lili's style. (though she could still totally be doing evil)

I have a feeling the oaths they took are going to be binding in some regard. Another binding oath for lili in an attempt to get out of the rest would fit her hubris so well.
Also, the fact that the oaths have cards further supports that the oaths are more binding imho.
She may be tempted, but that would be probably too detailed of a story for creative to convey between just two sets while focusing on other elements too I think. At least I don't think they can pull it off after the last few blocks worth of story telling.
I do hope she betrays them and by doing that kills Gideon after he defeats Tezzeret. And then resurect him as zombie and use him to finish off Tezzeret.

There doesn't seem to be any indication of betrayal based on the stories we've seen from Liliana's perspective. Plus, it'd be terrible writing to have Lili make the Oath, and not have her kill any of her demons with the team before breaking it.
No, the manipulation is probably going to be convincing the team that Razaketh is a big part of Bolas' plan, and they should off him first. Probably to the detriment of their overall potential failure of a "plan."
Of course Liliana is going to direct the to Razaketh. She's not wrong in that the demon has some connection Bolas since Lily had Bolas engineer the pact with Razaketh. Lilly is just going to leave out the part to the others that its a demon. And since Jace doesn't seem to be around during the initial trip, he can't tell the others. Then when the other gatewatch members defeat the demon then get any info they can Lilly will conveniently kill it before it says anything she doesn't think they need to hear, then point out to Gideon how she just helped kill a 'nasty old demon and stopped it from doing anymore bad things to people.'

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. Yeah, she's been to Amonkhet before. Yeah, she's got that chillin style. Still, how does that explain such a royal treatment? Isn't Amonkhet a hostile plane ruled by Bolas and his servants (as far as we know)? Who is pampering her? She seems to be rather comfortable in contrast to Gideon (check out his image), who looks tired, dirty and ready for battle. She's like ''Go ahead bro, i'll catch up later, i'm talking business here'' and it seems rather weird that she is not in a similar condition.

If she was gonna kill him it would have been during SoI when she had to forcibly push crazy Jace out of her head.
Also, between the pact and the veil I'm pretty sure she's handily the strongest of the gatewatch. Heck we see the trouble gid had with one gearhulk during the attack on the hub and she makes the versurous gearhulk look like a fricking plant token. She probably wouldn't have to try hard if she intended on killing him or Chandra. Gideon may prove sorta difficult at first but I bet she can overcome him just by burying him in a pile of zombies...dude isn't super strong just indestructible. Nissa could probably give her a good run for her money.
I just don't think an actual treason would be compelling story, no one else has access to the magnitude of experience, magical artifacts, and general lack of constraint she has to make it an even fight.

Ehhh, I dunno' about that. She still needed the find her way into the Gatewatch to get their help defeating her demon, and Jace was an easy way in due to their history. I think the whole point in it being such an uneven match would prove to us as the players, and to the surviving members of the Gatewatch (they would never kill ALL of them), that she's to be taken seriously, and can be one of the most villainous characters in the game

The royal treatment is pretty simple to explain: She's being served by zombies (mummies to be specific). She's a necromancer. Necromancers can control zombies. She's pampering herself utilizing what's around her.
It's worth noting that Gideon is also standing on what looks to be a Temple's steps. For all we know, he's attempting the challenges to see how they fit into Bolas' scheme, because he's the only member of the Gatewatch who could reliably tank anything thrown at them.
Liliana likes Jace too much to turn on the Gatewatch, and I have a bit more faith in WotC creative than to expect the Gatewatch will just be a nonblack coalition.

All members of the Gatewatch sans Ajani are going to Amonkhet, as discussed in Renewal. Who else besides Gideon and Liliana gets a card is what's up for debate. Bolas can mind control Jace because he can mind control basically anyone. Arguably, when dealing with a telepathic force, you want a telepath on your side to fight that fight.
I still think that going to Amonkhet is a bad idea, but I believe it will be a humbling experience, not a destructive one, for the Gatewatch. The logic of going is poor, but the team makeup for a Bolas fight is relatively sound. They just need...well, a lot more.
I just don't think an actual treason would be compelling story, no one else has access to the magnitude of experience, magical artifacts, and general lack of constraint she has to make it an even fight.
To be fair, the Verdurous Gearhulk had a tree for a core. Let's see Liliana try her voodoo on pure metal. (Mechanically, yes, black spells can still destroy artifact creatures, but in story she'd have a lot tougher time bringing down the Torrential or Combustible. She'd have to assemble a Zombie Giant or something.)
Liliana and Jace's relationship status is "complicated". They aren't officially a couple right now, but there's still some lingering UST between them, and Liliana would rather save Jace and have him owe her than to kill him and waste his still-useful mind magic. Jace was also the first to advocate Liliana's membership, and despite the mistrust invited her to join him and Gideon on Zendikar. It's clear that Jace would rather have Liliana as an ally than an enemy, and to be able to direct her necromancy towards villains rather than bystanders.
I also think we're not giving the other Gatewatch enough credit here. Sure, Liliana's Chain Veil gives her a boost, but a boost with a heavy price to pay, and the other Gate Walkers aren't pushovers in a fight. Jace came very close to destroying Liliana's mind, and he'd be capable of countering any spell she tried to use against him or the other Gate Walkers, not to mention he has telepathy so he'd know she's preparing a spell in advance. Chandra's fire magic is as dangerous to Liliana as Liliana's death magic is to Chandra. Nissa's elementals might be susceptible, but they can also protect Nissa from Liliana's magic. Of course Gideon is indestructible, and he wouldn't just let an army of Zombies bury him, he'd start slicing and dicing with that sural of his. Ajani has healing and protection magic which should be able to counteract Liliana's death magic. This ain't DBZ, folks.
Liliana's certainly capable of betraying the Gatewatch (provided the Oath doesn't magically bind her from doing so), but she's going to need a good reason to make an enemy out of them before she does. Selling out to Bolas might seem like such a reason, but she knows that Bolas isn't stupid; if she's capable of betraying Gatewatch, she's capable of betraying Bolas, and Bolas would never let her out from under his thumb. Plus she doesn't want to be another one of Bolas' beeyatches like Tezzeret or formerly Sarkhan. Overthrowing Bolas would be far more satisfying for her, and far more profitable.

A single zombie from a few consulate forces protecting the spire was enough to not just go toe to toe, it eventually win against tezzerets construct. Assuming mechanics match the storyline, she took a humanoid and pumped enough power into it to rip through a 5/5 metal construct in time. The other gear-hulks a may have proven more engaging but I still think she would have handily been able to bring one down. Her lower level is something they havent actually shown a limit to yet as she has successfully risen to almost every occasion. Even held emrakul back for a second or two, although she was outclassed there granted.
I hope the oaths are binding. It makes the gatewatch a more interesting story telling vehicle for future sets imho because there is a lasting impact to the choice to join. Aside from that, Bolas brokered the deal between her and the demons, she's desperate but not stupid. I'm thinking it would be out of character for her to join with bolas.
I see that together we’re more powerful than we are alone. If that means I can do what needs to be done without relying on the Chain Veil, then I’ll keep watch. Happy now?
Which means after (if she can) kills her demons and (if she can) separates from the chain vail she could peace out of the gate watches lives.
As other have said I think Liliana will use the gatewatch to get rid of demon #3 at the cost of them beating Bolas.
If anything I'm excepting Jace to betray the Gatewatch JL- Tower of Babel like.

I feel like the oath would be broken, not when the Chain Veil is separated, but if she ever has to use it to "do what needs to be done." They aren't providing enough backup? Oath busted.
I'm pretty sure the Oath's aren't some sort of magically binding contract. None of them seem skilled at that kind of magic that I know of (I guess Gideon at one time was a hieromancer but that never seems to come up), and unless Jace being the Guildpact makes him capable of that it doesn't seem likely. Them being on cards doesn't make it a magically binding thing. There wasn't any magic (beyond that of the heart) in Cathartic Reunion, as just an immediate example.

It's worth noting that Gideon is also standing on what looks to be a Temple's steps. For all we know, he's attempting the challenges to see how they fit into Bolas' scheme, because he's the only member of the Gatewatch who could reliably tank anything thrown at them.
There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
I feel like the oath would be broken, not when the Chain Veil is separated, but if she ever has to use it to "do what needs to be done." They aren't providing enough backup? Oath busted.
