I don't know it was already pointed out, but Ashiok sounds almost like Ashoka who was an Indian Emperor.
Also Ashoka according to wikipedia means without pain / sorrow. Perhaps he was able to prolong his short life as an aetherborn by traveling through the aether from time to time. (planeswalking)
Ashiok literally has the same skin and anatomy as that aetherborn concept art, tI the point where if we were shown that art out of context, 100% of people would think that it's Ashiok
Its not even supposed to be ambiguous
50% of the people thought Ashiok was a Returned(Zombie from Theros) Planeswalker

Unless creative (again) retcon Ashoik, they is fading away from the use of their magic, while this seems like a natural process for aetherborn as part of their life cycle.
Seems like a strong guess. At four, that would move Kaladesh into second for the number of native walkers from a plane (with cards).
(5) Nicol Bolas, Liliana, Karn, Venser, Teferi from Dominaria
(4) Chandra, Saheeli, Dovin, Ashiok? from Kaladesh
(3) Ugin, Sarkhan, and Narset from Tarkir
Domri, Vraska, and Ral from Ravnica
Arlinn, Sorin, and Tibalt from Innistrad
Nissa, Kiora, Nahiri from Zendikar
Bolas is not from Dominaria. His home plane is unknown.
Wrong, the original Elder Dragons, including Bolas, where born on Dominaria.

Ashiok's skin isn't breaking apart the same way all the aetherborn's seems to. Ashiok also doesn't have the blue glowing eyes (or any at all) and Ashiok's lips and ears are much more human-looking than the aetherborn artwork we've seen so far. Not to mention the horns. At best Ashiok could be part aetherborn, but I'm not sure how that would work even. Or what race an aetherborn would mix with to get both more human-like facial features and horns.

Ashiok also happens to be an Indian name, so there is that.

And to put the final nail in the "Ashiok is an Aetherborn" coffin, as fun as this has been: The official description of Ashiok is that Ashiok used to be human.

Didn't all the Elder Dragons come from prehistoric Dominaria?
I don't know if it's technically "prehistoric", but yes, the original five Elder Dragons all came from ancient Dominaria. Nicol Bolas is from Dominaria.
Nope, go to Bolas wiki page, lists his home plane as unknown as says he fought with a demon leviathan in a "still young" Dominaria and that it was t he first planeswalkers battlefield on said plane. Points to Bolas and his kinds pre-dating Dominaria.
Now where is the source for Bolas being born on Domiaria?

For the belivers: If you pray too much maybe wizards can make Ashiok to be a Human who ascended in a battle against a Aetherborn and when doing soo he "melded" with the Aetherborn... Pray for it!

Maybe the comics, i hadn't read them for years but they could have said that in them.

Considering that his four siblings was not planeswalkers, and he only ascended shortly before the Leviathan battle, and the Elder Dragon wars took place on Dominaria. He can't possibly have been born anywhere else. Which makes Dominaria his home plane by default.

I was surprised to hear the official statement that Ashiok is not aetherborn, I guess there are some differences in the details but the aesthetic is awfully close. The ideas about the aetherborn and the Blind Eternities that popped up here were kind of interesting, though, maybe that will be a plot point with regards to the interplanar transport device Rashmi invented, like the aetherborn want access or are the only sapient creatures that can use it, since it only worked on inorganic material so far and they are supposedly made of refined aether.

We were told when Ashiok was revealed.
Additionally, yesterday's Q&A (still waiting for it on the youtubes), we were explicitly told that Ashiok is not, nor ever has been, Aetherborn.

Isn't that entire chunk of lore like four major revisions ago and of dubious canonicity since it came from comics with very low readership? That's like citing to Greensleeves for how spell casting works or Arena for the idea that everyone can planeswalk.

Want to know what is really, really, really funny? All set related stories pre-revision are still canon unless it has been specifically been rendered non-canon by later publications. Heck, there have been so many references to pre-revision stories in magic that believing anything else is foolish. Heck, the entirety of Urza's Saga (the set, not the block) was essentially a retelling and elaboration upon of Antiquities story. The only real difference between pre and post revision is that in post revision WoTC kept more direct control over the story compared to pre-revision.

Ulgrotha (Homelands) produced 4 IIRC, so it would be tied. Dominaria had a bunch more pre mending, most notably Urza; it's miles ahead of anywhere else.

Ulgrotha produced two whom we know are from the plane: Sandruu and Daria. Taysir and Feroz are from elsewhere, and we don't know if Ravi was a native or not. Taysir was from Rabiah, and while we know don't know where Feroz was from, we know that he was not a native as Ulgrotha was referred to as his adopted plane. It is possible that Ravi was a native of Ulgrotha, but it is doubtful, as she knew the Baron before he got stuck on the plane, and he is most definitely neither a planeswalker nor a native of Ulgrotha (He got stuck when his and Ravi's master died in Ulgrotha, he is possibly from Dominaria as the Sengir line is strong there.)
