Well, it is not my usual cup of tea to venture into speculation myself, and I might be reading too much into this, but....

pallandotheblue asked: Okay, we know Mechanic E is coming -- what about Mechanic mc²?
We know it’s equal to Mechanic E. : )
Call me paranoid, but I think this could be a clever clue-dropping by MaRo and not just a play on words and terminology.
I am still pondering the Kaladesh flavor background, with the locals drawing on the aether power directly, employing aether reservoirs that people can draw energy (they kind of avoid talking about mana and direct usage of mana for magic, as reflected in the recent story "Homesick") from.
I dare a wild guess now.
"Mechanic E" is token-oriented, related to creating aether energy reservoirs, similar to investigate and clue tokens. These reservoirs can be sacrificed for mana anytime, like Eldrazi Spawn, or more precisely, the Gold token from Gild and King Macar. They can therefore store and carry mana whenever it is needed. There might be even more mechanical overreach - maybe using these tokens for powering up the speculated vehicles?
Anyway, feel free to discuss. We will learn in two days anyway.

I like this idea, so taking the text from Gild some cards might be able to create lets call them Energon Cubes that read "Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."
One way to have these things help the speculated vehicles could be to introduce a snow mana like variant. So taking the rules text from snow mana we could have "<New E Symbol> can be paid with one mana from a Energon permanent." That's abit too parasitic for my taste so maybe this wording is more interesting. "<New E Symbol> can be paid with one mana from a artifact permanent."
Just a thought, not even sure if the wording is right, or too soon after colorless mana cost? Either way I'm excited to see what it actually is.
Interesting. Everybody's looking at vehicles and then we get this.
Maybe it works like with Pokemon, that you have to attach Energy to cards to charge them up and then release. Kaladesh is a good setting for such a mechanic.
I'm wondering if there's a chance Energy becomes evergreen or at least deciduous. While charge counters will undoubtedly still have their place, I feel like Energy could easily supplant them in many situations. Lands using energy counters would actually be less complex than lands using traditional storage or charge counters as you wouldn't have to keep the counters on the lands themselves and thus keep track of how many counters each land has. Development would have to take care not to break them, but if they control the rate of converting energy to mana like Mirrodin's Core and Vivid lands do with charge counters, balance shouldn't be difficult.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Energy would be very, very, difficult to break as they have laid out the energy economy extensively. I.e. This is what you can do for E, this is what you can do for EE, ect.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
It's more that being able to convert every single energy counter you have into mana of any color with a single land could quite easily become busted, hence why I think such lands would go the Mirrodin's Core route rather than storage lands.
And lo and behold, Aether Hub is a thing in Kaladesh. I suppose lands that can be tapped for energy counters would be a bit much, at least if they're the same lands that convert those energy counters into colored mana.

Or three quarters, considering the energy serve as kind of mana that is stored for later use
