So I was idly thinking about the progression of Modern Masters sets, and the difficulties inherent in reprinting double-faced cards, when a question occurred to me: how soon would it be before a Modern Masters set could include a significant number of double-faced cards (enough to justify their printing)?
My answer: Summer of 2021, when the original INN & DKA cards, the ORI flipwalkers, and the SOI & EMN cards should all be fair game. (At which point, the next question is: would this actually make for a fun/interesting/valuable set?)
You get a cookie for most-distant-future speculation.
Five years is a long time. Not sure if Modern Masters is still relevant by then.
I've been waiting for another article on Extended deckbuilding in the Duelist for a while now.
With the amount of success I expect from Conspiracy 2 relative to the lack of excitement over .. what did we just get? Eternal Masters? .. I expect that they will discontinue the Masters line and do all reprints in supplementary sets such as Conspiracy. I only play standard - but I'm excited about the number of reprints in Conspiracy enough that I'm interested in drafting it. I wouldn't have been interested in Conspiracy if it weren't for the reprints (I already own 4 bits of Paradise, so it's not even that one card)
I suspect that Wizards will catch on and realise they can sell more of their supplemental sets this way than they ever did with Masters (especially because Masters sets are always way over the MSRP)
That said - I wouldn't be surprised if in 2021 we see From the Vault: Double-faced.

Eternal Masters suffered from the same problem as Modern Masters I and II, a very limited print run making it impossible for people in some markets to even get *a* single booster. Conspiracy I and II does not have this problem, making it much more widely available, which in turn makes people more exited. (And a few much needed high power reprints for Legacy/Vintage and Commander certainly doesn't hurt it either.)

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
