With the Eldrazi dead or in stasis, Bolas stands as the only current "Big Bad."
We haven't seen him in a while. Sure, he battled Ugin in Tarkir's past, but that was thousands of years ago. The last time he was seen meddling was in Scars block.
For narrative purposes, it would be useful to bring Bolas back in as a main player.
From the little we know, Kaladesh seems to be an artifact-heavy plane, not unlike Esper. Tezzeret would fit right in. In fact, his ability to manipulate filigree could make him especially powerful in a plane full of livingartifacts.
Even just practically, an artifacts-matter Planeswalker needs to be placed in an artifact-heavy set in order to be relevant in Limited.
Personally, I'm hoping for a "Tezzeret redemption block" at some point. Tezzeret and Sarkhan both started in roughly the same spot: first seen inAlara, then reappearing once as a pawn of Bolas.
Since then, Sarkhan has had a chance to break free of Bolas and redeem himself by saving his home plane.
It'd be nice to give Tezzeret the same chance, though repetitious. I almost think it'd be more interesting to see Tezzeret break free of Bolas and become his own independent villain. A different ending from Sarkhan, who became a hero and savior, and would add another bad guy to the storyline.

Tezzeret is Esper colors, not Grixis. The only card that acknowledged that so far was Brilliant Ultimatum, but he used some white spells in the novels and his deck in the "Duels of the Planeswalkers" game is WUB. Coincidentally, Tamiyo got a GWU investigate deck in this game long before Tamiyo, Field Researcher was revealed. One might thing they're foreshadowing...
Esper Tezzeret would fit right into the color balance in Kaladesh. So far, I think that Chandra is a safe bet and Saheeli seems to be UR or maybe WUR (judging from the art and setting only). Also, I expect to see Nissa in Aether Revolt, so that each gatewatcher gets "his" set in WUBRG order. That leaves two planeswalker slots to fill with white, black and at least half blue. And I still have fingers crossed for a dwarf planeswalker, who would be at least partially white...
On the other hand, Tezzeret does have some unfinished business in New Phyrexia, and it would be unlike him to just (planes)walk away from the position of power he holds there...
I love Bolas as a character so I do not want him in a story line right now. The reason being is the Avengers would just show up and wreck him. Good I hate the Gatewatch story arc so much.
For some reason, Grixis Tezzeret seems more believable than Esper Tezzeret. WUB creatures tend to be only slightly sinister, and usually because they want to break the law in order to keep pursuing their ideals and goals. What White does Tezzeret have in him? I mean, really? He's most definitely UB, but White is not something I associate with him in any way.
If Phyrexia DOES turn up on Kaladesh, I hope Chandra gets compleated. It'll be good for one of the Gatewatch to get killed off, that way we make room for other walkers to join up and visit other planes and make a difference.
Esper seems better if we're looking at some sort of redemption arc, as its easy to sell W as standing for a higher purpose. Esper also works well for villainy, with white merely adding a love of order and using it to your ends.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
The Mardu horde is part white, and I think it was MaRo on Blogatog who said that they use white means to achieve non-white ends. It could be similar in case of Tezzeret. Actually, it could be argued that the way he established himself in New Phyrexia - relying on the existing system to rise through its ranks - is part white. At least, I don't think it is something a UBR character would do...
Tezzeret is the same type of white the Elesh Norn is. Ideal white. Not goody two shoes Gideon white, but "I have these ideals, and I will accomplish them" white. The black and blue help him to accomplish these ideals.

The only reason red makes more sense than white is because red plays with artifacts a lot more. As a character ther is nothing red about Tezzeret
Another reason would be fitting to his master Bolas' colors.
Agreed, Sarkhan wasn't black even on Jund, but while in service of Bolas he was BR and only then.
For reference, here's Tezzeret's description, thanks to Worshipper of Kruphix for the link:
Although the artificer Tezzeret has pledged his loyalty to the dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas, he prefers to recall his pledge only when it works to his own advantage. When Bolas sent Tezzeret to investigate the corrupted plane of New Phyrexia, Tezzeret was eager to wrestle leadership of the plane from its current "Father of Machines," the silver golem Karn. But his efforts were thwarted, and he has since begun a new mission for the dragon, carefully laying out his plans from a new corner of the Multiverse. . . .

Sarkhan was black because he was hearing voices and slowly going insane. Bolas had nothing to do with it.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Tezzeret has been concealing his body with a long, dark coat. Perhaps he was compleated and is acting as a Phyrexian agent to obtain Rashmi's teleportation technology.
From what I can tell from this picture of Tezzeret, his new game mechanic will be utilizing cards with the energy mechanic. If you look closely at this picture, you can clearly see that he is holding a metal object with the same shape as the energy ability. So that means that his deck will be based around casting spells with energy counters. This will make a lot of sense since it is a new game mechanic and his surprised appearance in Kaladesh makes him the perfect candidate for utilizing this new ability.
