For the first time since the Serra Avatar reprint, there has finally been a direct reference to Serra from a magic product in a long, long time. Today's Magic Story included the following lines.
"Tamiyo. The scroll. The iron scroll. You showed it to me. An old story. A powerful story. The survivors of a place that was lost...Serra's realm. That cataclysm, that power...the story fits. You know it does. You can stop this."
So, let the speculation begin. Is this a throw away nod to the older stories, or an indication of things to come? Are they bringing back Planeswalker commanders for this year, and Serra is finally getting a card? The reference to a very specific event gives me hope for something Serra related!
Exactly. It seems very unrealistic to expect her or something directly related to the old stories to show up in the current sets, but by bringing it back up, it might be a way to "introduce" her to the newer players when she hopefully does show up in a Commander product.
Unfortunately, lovely Serra is no more thanks to Urza and his machinations. Considering they made Teferi, Titania, and Freyalise into commander cards, it wouldn't be out of the question to see a Serra eventually, but only in a special deck outside of the main storyline. Or another time travel block...
Dear Wizards of the Coast, please spare the lives of innocent goats. If you print a Serra PW card, do it for other reasons. Don't do it to murder small peaceful goats.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.

Actually, Serra left Serra's Realm long before the plane collapsed. (It was actually the combination of Phyrexian corruption and the stress of maintaining the plane that drove Radiant nuts.) She eventually met Feroz; that's all the backstory to Homelands. After his death at the fangs of the Sengir clan, she traveled to Dominaria, and eventually died, and that's where just another bad land in a bad cycle, but at least it's in-color came in.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I strongly believe we'll see a Serra Planeswalker card in the future. Most likely on a suppelmental product, as she's long dead, but it's definetly on the table after the sucess of Commander 2014. We still need an enchantment centered Planeswalker and one that spams Angel tokens. Who better than Serra?
On a side note, Urza will probably get a card eventually. Probably our first 5 color Planeswalker

I could only hope Serra PW gets printed in a new Commander product, eventually, although 2015 didn't really have much in the way of characters we have seen before, besides Ezuri. More call backs to past characters were probably the best part of C14, Feldon is the most favorable card in all of Commander, I think.
Urza seems more 4 color than 5. Was he ever shown doing a lot with white mana, or any of the white characteristics?

I'd say 'chaotic' and 'reckless' definitely weren't Urza's traits. Same for 'interdependent' or 'peaceful'. So he should be in esper colors.
The Phyrexians are what destroyed Serra's Realm and I doubt the current menace plaguing Innistrad is from Phyrexia. Baron Sengir didn't kill Feroz, he died in his lab in a freak accident. Serra was griefstricken and planeswalked away only to be jobbed by some magician who some monk killed with a mere blow to the head. Which is quite curious considering the fact that Feroz's Ban was preventing any planeswalkers from entering or leaving Ulgothra. It's still curious that Serra's Realm is brought up because it is basically a "synthetic plane" (created by a planeswalker) much like Rath and Bolas's Meditation Realm.
Even if Jace is referring to Serra's Realm being destroyed by a great cataclysm and Tamiyo helping prevent the same thing to Innistrad, wouldn't Zendikar itself be worth mentioning? It almost got destroyed by Ulamog and Kozilek and that's what's about to happen to Innistrad because of Emrakul. Even so, Jace just came from saving Zendikar. To think that would be the cataclysm most closely rendered in his memory than Serra's Realm - and he was present at both instances of Eldrazi freedom on the plane.
On the topic of Urza's demeanor: Urza's Rage. That's some epic pyromancy. So yeah, he's definitely every color except G. In any case, he should be a WUBR planeswalker, sice he's an artificer as well, lol. Also, Urza already has a card (for vanguard format):

Creative has been subtly putting in references to older lore for quite a while. M15 had references to Leshrac, and there have been others that escape me at the moment.
As for Urza, he's explicitly referred to as white by Serra, but he reads as a very blue character. He could relatively easily appear in any color but green.
Urza has appeared using white magic in cards like this one.
So Urza has been shown as using magic of all colors except green. He's very Machiavellian so he's more B than W or R. He's definitely more U than anything but he's a close second in B. W and R are more like afterthoughts.
I never understood Yawgmoth making Gerard fight Urza. How was that gonna be entertaining? Urza was one of the first old 'walkers and Gerard was basically a meat puppet created by Urza. That's like having a fetus battle a 'roid-raging Mike Tyson on his peak day.

So, if WotC decides to **** my childhood memories of playing magic and reading about yagwmoth, urza and co. by printing crappy cards in supplemental products, I will hunt them down and kill them. Each one of them.

(LouCypher):

Wizards should've made the 5 planeswalkers commanders to have been the 5 titans who dealt with Yawgmoth. Period. Because that way they would've all been tied together - from a flavor perspective. We all know that WotC is never returning to Ulgothra or Kamigawa. Yet they returned to a popular plane and took a steaming heap all over that one (Zendikar). At least that hasn't happened yet with Innistrad (though Innistrad 1 was better because it had better cards and no Jace). If we ever return with supplemental products to the golden days of magic, I really hope it's well done. The Teferi and Freyalise planeswalker cards were great. Even Urza and Gix have cards in vanguard at least, yet not Yawgmoth. Yawgmoth is even more broken than Urza to have a card. It would have to be a Jace, the Mindsculptor level vanguard card and even then that guy would have to be the Archenemy. That's how broken that card should be.
There should be a planeswalker supplemental product that gives those cards from back in the day their much expected due. I don't expect to see Taysir, who is ridiculously broken. But it would be cool if he had a planeswalker card for each color (there were 5 different Taysirs) and then you'd win the game by having all 5 of them in play (a rule would also allow you to be able to have one copy of each color in play, thus bypassing the planeswalker rule not in a way like Mirror Gallery but in a limiting way like Brothers Yamazaki). I would need a new pair of shorts if that happened. We could very easily see a Serra or Feroz or even Sandruu planeswalker card. I don't see why not. Their stories haven't been retconned and Time Spiral was a block with 66% throwback to the very old sets of the game and lore so WotC could very much do it again.
What I like most about MtG is the longevity. I have been around this game on/off since Fallen Empires. I like seeing names dropped every now and again though it is depressing to only see in the core sets (which have already been eliminated) so now that there aren't any coresets we can only flock to supplemental products. Conspiracy was supposed to be about this brand new plane, Fiora yet that set had cards like Phage, the Untouchable, Ajani Sunstriker, Basandra, Battle Seraph, etc., which clearly don't belong on that plane (or timeframe). This summer we'll be getting Conspiracy 2 but maybe in the future we'll finally get the 2nd Archenemy product, where we can have more new cards that are made from old lore. I definitely hope it happens for Commander but WotC only designs very few new cards for those sets. We can only dream for them then...

Because Gerrard was Urza's creation. Gerrard was meant to become the heir to the Legacy that Urza had so desired. He was the perfect dude to stand up against the Phyrexian incursion. The success of Urza's plans hinged upon Gerrard Capashen being able to succeed.
Yawgmoth wasn't looking for the entertainment of an even battle, he was getting pleasure from watching Urza destroy every machination he put into play to stop Yawgmoth.
Hm, that is true. That would explain why, in the end, Urza allowed Gerrard to win by decapitating his head and using it as the Legacy Weapon. Either way, Karn gets both Urza's and Mishra's stones to become a planeswalker. Ironically, with those powers he acquires, he creates Mirrodin which eventually becomes New Phyrexia. So Urza didn't defeat Yawgmoth after all.

Now you're thinking with portals. Urza's fight against phyrexia was always a losing battle with interspersed pyrrhic victories. It was a fight that he never allowed himself to admit he couldn't win, and he was never going to fully defeat phyrexia. Commodore Guff knew that, but he kept it to himself. Then Karn's accidental infection of Mirrodin with the glistening oil allowed for a new foothold, but it's not the same cultist phyrexia of old, compleating everything and everyone they can get their hands on.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
The plane absolutely was. Soul Bombs devastated the plane, leaving it a smoldering, lifeless wreck, though it was never 100% stated that all phyrexians were killed, and that there weren't any offshoots onto different planes, because Phyrexia was only sealed off from entering the planes protected by the Shard. There could be others out there, if WotC ever wants to revisit it, but I doubt it.
The glistening oil would have had to been completely destroyed as well, but it wasn't, and eventually got to Memnarch, and the rest is Mirrodin's sad history. Phyrexia is a great boogy-man for the game because of how it could literally spring up anywhere they want it to.
