Total speculation on my part but here is my reasoning. We're losing fetchlands during rotation. Sure I guess it's plausible that we get enemy fetchland reprints, which I would love, but I don't feel them to be too likely. Possible but not likely. Instead we need some lands that have interesting synergy with the Battle Lands and honestly enemy check lands do just that. We had a similar synergy in INS/RTR standard but that made mana almost too good while I think this would be a good balance. Allied Battle Lands and Enemy Check Lands. Plus, while you could reprint them in other sets, technically lands like "Hinterland Harbor" need the actual hinterland to be reprinted and that's Innistrad.
the lands to be rotating out are the allied ones, we have 2 enemy pairs already (pain lands from origins, man lands from bfz) while only one allied (battle lands). So i doubt they would release more enemy duals without adding more allied duals (otherwise we would have 3 enemy pairs and 1 allied pair, wich seems very unlikely), so they will either do only allied pairs, or a full cycle (wich I also find unlekely).
And i really feel that allied check lands doesn't fit innistrad much (specially sunpetal groove and glacial fortress).
So my bet is a new dual cycle. (lands with self mill ETB? )
Whatever gets printed we'll get a worse manabase than we have now. They've stated how powerful the current manbase is and, for the sake of format's changes, 4~5 colors decks will probably not be viable.
I'd love checklands for the synergy with Tangolands, but I guess it would violate what I just said about hosing 4-5 colors decks.
Enemy fastlands would be nice to get. It would speed up the format and probably lead to 2-3 colors decks in the format. On the other hand, the argument about the number of allies fizers on the format is very reasonable.
So we might just end up getting a new cycle.
*I'd also love filterlands, but I see no reason for them to show up right now.
Probably dual lands that give your opponent a 2/2 zombie, a 1/1 fying spirit, a 1/1 exploding devil, a 2/2 wolf or a 1/1 human with vigilance when they ETB.
That's kinda cool, but probably too strong. I mean, would you take the tempo hit in order to get a free 2/2 on turn one? I would.
Timber Cave
Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped.
When ~ enters the battlefield, put a 2/2 red and green Wolf creature token onto the battlefield. T: Add R or G to your mana pool.
That's probably too strong. But I could imagine:
Timber Cave
Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped. T: Add R or G to your mana pool.
When you discard ~, you may pay RG. If you do, put a 2/2 red and green Wolf creature token onto the battlefield.
Trifas, filterlands have cool spooky names, like Fetid Heath and Graven Cairns. That might be enough.
Hey, we have battlelands to turn them on, so why not? As you mention, the checklands are flavour neutral enough to be printed in any set, but nothing wrong with them appearing here.

I think you misread, they were saying your opponent gets the creature when you play the land, you know a drawback dual land

Just my 2 cents. Thoughts?
I guess whatever they will print it will somewhat support colorless in casting costs, like painlands do. My best guess is a functional reprint of allied painlands ("pay 1 life" instead of "1 damage") or filter lands
I love the idea of Madness lands. Duals that, when discarded, allow you to put them onto the battlefield instead at some small cost, or ones like rangerwickett's second suggestion that serve as madness spells when discarded.

So Magmatic Insight ramps and draws two? And they thought Lightning Bolt warped Modern...although if you have to pay extra mana to get the land, then it isn't quite so bananas.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

I did mention it being at a cost for a reason. Putting an extra land from your hand onto the battlefield is about a two-mana effect (plus a card draw), so I could see it being ok at a cost of one or two mana. Might be wrong though. Could be more powerful than I give it credit for.
Cards like Magmatic Insight, Tormenting Voice and Chandra, Flamecaller are probably going to be quite good with this set anyway because of both discarding for Madness and getting four card types in the bin for Delirium.
...And it just occurred to me why they reprinted Tormenting Voice in Dragons of Tarkir right after it was in Khans. Well played, Wizards.
A strictly better Tranquil Thicket strikes me as unlikely. I hope I'm wrong.
Indeed. Maybe it will cost GW to cycle?
Anyway, I believe the lands will have some kind of synergy with the block's theme. Either an easy way to put it on the graveyard (Discard or Sacrifice ability) or some upside when discarded (trigger upon discarding or ability while it's on your graveyard)
Cluestones tap for C or D and can be cycled for CD, so I could see lands eventually following a similar pattern.
Perhaps there will be a Riftstone Portal-esque cycle? Though that would lead to some ridic color fixing.

cycling duals could appear in the set after SOI or the block after since they like having cross block synergy but I think we have all our mechanics for SOI now.
cycling lands would be great for modern loam decks.
I'm kind of thinking Filterlands may show up, I think it's certainly feasible.
They produce colorless mana, they don't have any particular synergy with the Tangolands so theres no fear of crazy manabases, they're probably due for a reprint. And as previously mentioned, they have spooky names.
I have no idea if the fact they're expeditions means much, but I want to believe?
I was just thinking here. A Horizon Canopy cycle would work in so many ways for the set:
-By having a sacrifice ability it would be easy to have a land in your graveyard, helping Delirium count
-They are a fair color fixer: playable in constructed, but wouldn't produce the same fixing level as the current insane manabase
-It would sell tons of packs as demand for them would be pretty high (i.e. Modern playable)
-It would be kind of a complement to the Enemy Painland cycle in Standard
-Completing a Future Sight cycle is always cool
I feel like such a cycle would be best saved for a world with a more adventuresome feel, like perhaps the Egyptian world, where the cycle represents tombs or dungeons of some sort that you plunder for treasure.

Since we have two cycles each for allied (battelands and the OGW uncommons) and enemy (pain and manlands), I imagine we'll get a full cycle. If we get reprints, I would wager Checklands, since the enemy colors were in Innistrad originally and they work well with battlelands, though filterlands are a possiblity, since they work well with the strictly colorless Eldrazi and they are getting costly in price.
However, with Madness and Delirium in the set, I'm guessing at a new design:
Madland
Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped unless you discard a card.
T: Add R or G to your mana pool.
It would be a downside that could become an upside in graveyard and madness strategies.

These seem neat.
Very believable and balanced, very interesting with the block mechanics, yet simple and non-parasitic.
You made me want them.
They are maybe believable at lower rarity for limited purposes (limited need madness enabler, and often manafixing), though they seem better than the best lands we have at non-rare level (refuges and trilands).
That thought just made my reanimator decks tremble
God please no more pain lands, at least not now, I'm sick and tired of that cycle.
The discard lands are even broken for legacy reanimators, turn 1 griselbrand or enrakul, off 1 land? simply ridiculous, but i can see them working on modern, they are good, but only 1 reanimator spell on modern that can be considered. Goryos.
I think that a Madland cycle would not get printed for the same reason that the Grove of the Burnwillows cycle won't be completed: different deck archetypes (and hence color combinations) would be much better than others. In the same way the U producing Groves would be 'too good', B producing Madlands would be too good.

It already has a name, nice.
Now to put it on a set: D
Indeed the madlands would be too good for modern and legacy (In specific decks), but what do we know? they printed stupidly broken eldrazis with eye of ugin and Eldrazi Temple out there. I don't doubt anything anymore.
And U Grove wouldn't be broken, good but not broken.
I would much rather they update the template to Paylands complete with open flavor (i.e., not tied to any particular plane like in the case of at least half the Painlands).
