So I was recalling standard seasons, and looking at the patterns of the cards that are printed for each standard. Although standard fluctuates and different decks are top tier every time around, there are cards that seem to always rear up their head for each standard season. For example,
- White and Black usually get a big board wipe.
- Blue usually gets a board wipe "wave" card.
When you look at standard, what cards do you think we are missing? Oath of the Gatewatch is around the corner, and looking at what cards we are missing might help determine what cards we could see in Oath.
Standard needs graveyard hate and I feel something like nevermore or Meddling Mage but in non-blue colors. Basically anything that can give other decks the ability to stop Ugin, the Spirit Dragon either before or after he lands and wipes your side of the board. Perhaps the best answer is Pithing Needle, but it feels like it is too soon to reprint that. Maybe a truly colorless eldrazi with a ghostway effect stamped on it. Another option is an Aligned Hedron Network style card that exiles all planeswalkers.
Ghost Quarter - Need a good way to deal with manlands Lightning Strike - staple effect that we're lacking right now Thought Scour - any good cantrip, really Wrath of God - I know we won't get it, but I miss 4 mana wraths Bile Blight - cheap black kill spell that while still conditional kills a lot of things Nihil Spellbomb - good graveyard hate Perilous Vault - I know many thought this was clunky, but I love this card so much. I want something that cleans everything up Inquisition of Kozilek - Going to be sad when flavor keeps this from being reprinted
Red: Lightning Strike
Blue: Maybe Quicken or some one mana trick.
Black: A two mana removal to play with/replace Ultimate Price like Bile Blight last rotation.
White: A threatening 3 or 4 CMC creature.
Green: An overcosted I-win fatty, although Eldrazi kinda covers it.
I feel the Surge mechanic needs at least one ritual type of effect to really make it constructed viable. Perhaps Manamorphose, it plays well with surge without actually being a ramp spell and also would benifit converge too.
I know WOTC has backed off from making land destruction as powerful as it once was, but one card feels so right for standard right now that I think it needs to be reprinted. It's Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, it feeds ramp and slows the opponent while also punishing decks that spread their mana base thin over four or more colors.
There won't be a reprint of this any time soon because the Mwonvuli is a jungle on Dominaria, however I feel that a functional reprint could help an elemental tribal deck to become competitive. It works great with Omnath, Locus of Rage and can search for Cinder Glade as well as Canopy Vista. It also can be downright mean with elementals like Greenwarden of Murasa bringing it back. I suppose they could reprint Frenzied Tilling, but at 3RG it costs to much to be playable. Instead I wonder if we'll see a multicolor card like it for one mana less that says something like this:
Reaping the Dust2RG Sorcery
Devoid
Exile target land. Search your library for a land card named Wastes and put it onto the battlefield tapped. If a non-basic land was exiled in this way, you may search your library any land card instead and put it onto the battlefield tapped.

Actually, a Leyline cycle would be cool as well, it's even covered by by the storyline since the Hedrons use leylines to function. If that would be the case, I would prefer Leyline of Sanctity, Leyline of the Void, Leyline of Lifeforce, Leyline of Anticipation and either a red leyline with "Creatures you control have menace" or just Leyline of Punishment.
