Tamiyo is most definitely related to the story, as she is the one who researched Avacyn's corruption. Due to the fact that Jace found her stuff, i think she may have left momentarily (possibly to check back in on kamigawa is my guess), and returned not long before sorin is shown killing avacyn, which is why she was standing behind with jace.
Personally, i think that if it is a 5 walker set, the fifth will be tamiyo (possibly uw so we dont have two mono blue walkers in one set). Mainly because we already have nahiri, sorin, jace, and arlinn, and since the only other walkers known to be on the plane currently are tamiyo and liliana. And the art released for eldritch moon shows lili, so i think we may he getting her then, possibly with her facing one of the two remaining demon lords.
Bold prediction: There will be 3 planeswalkers in Eldritch Moon. It's quite obvious by now that there will not be only 5, but if there are 6... why the 4-2 spread? Not only that shows their hand early (that SoI block will have more than 5), there's also no reason for an imbalance when balance would be so easy. Moreover, Innistrad (the original block) has a planeswalker problem, also shared by New Phyrexia block: 4 out of its 5 planeswalkers haven't appeared in the story ever since. Sure, Liliana and Garuk appeared in almost every core set since, but otherwise, they have been conspicuously absent from expert expansions.
So we have: Liliana, Tamiyo, Tibalt and Garruk. None of them appeared in SoI. Garruk makes no sense in the block since he willingly abandoned the plane even though Avacyn's restoration was having a dampening effect on his curse. Of the other 3, we know that Liliana and Tamiyo are indeed in Innistrad as we have seen them appear in card art/and or stories. But we haven't heard a peep about Tibalt. However, this is by all admissions of WotC a mystery story. It makes no sense introducing the true villain in the first set. Moreover, if Tibalt doesn't return in Innistrad... when?
Admittedly, I could see Liliana not getting a card, since of them all, she is the one who more recently has gotten a card, and so far it seems that her role in the story is entirely tangential. But still, why the 4-2 divide? Maybe a third, unforeseen planeswalker? After all Tibalt is a pain mage, not one dabbling in mind-altering magic. Ashiok fits the bill perfectly, but last time we saw him he was quite happy in Theros because the nature of the plane's magic that turns belief into reality greatly bolstered his powers. If Marit Lage is indeed the big evil in Innistrad, I doubt she'll get a planeswalker card. On the other hand, every expert set other than BfZ has had 2-4 new planeswalkers, so maybe we'll get a new one?
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
If I were a betting man, I'd say we're definitely getting a new Liliana card and either Oath of Liliana or Oath of Sorin in Eldrich Moon. Wizards has already made it known that they're focusing on the 'core 5', and Liliana is already revealed as the face of the new set. It would honestly shock me if she didn't get a card.
Beyond that I'm just not sure.
Tamiyo's notes have appeared all over the place, and she even shows up in person at the pivotal moment of this set's story. When Jace, Unraveler of Secrets is closing in on his investigation, he gets attacked by Archangel Avacyn and ultimately saved by Tamiyo as depicted in Avacyn's Judgment. This presumably happens after Jace's visit to Markov Manor and his meeting with Sorin, Grim Nemesis where he reveals his findings to the ancient vampire. Sorin finally catches up with Avacyn and is forced to anguished unmaking her, while Tamiyo helps a battered Jace in the full art version.
On the flip side, Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded has not been mentioned anywhere thus far. Again, if I were a betting man and I had to choose which of the two got a card, I'd easily say Tamiyo.
