I posted this as a comment on the post announcing the BFZ Duel Deck, but it got little responces. However i think this is a matter worthy of discussion, so i repost this here for anyone who's interested.
So far, there have been 2 duel decks per Year. The Autumn one, which serves as an introduction to the new block, and the spring one, which (IMHO) recycles planeswalkers with stories that often have no connection to the original plotline, for the sake of reprinting walkers.
But in the new age of Two blocks per year, wouldn't it make sense for both Duel Decks to serve as an introduction to each block? And if so, what happens to the alter-art versions of planeswalkers many of us like to get? Then Maybe, the new Duel Deck paradigm would be 'Planeswalker vs Legend'. That way, characters can get a minute at the spotlight without forced unnecessary conflicts, and the duel decks always seem fresh storywise, and cool card-wise.
How likely do you think this is?
Since Gideon is headlining BFZ, my guess for the next DD, IF we take this scenario under consideration, would be Nissa, Worldwaker VS Eldrazi.
I think the dual decks are one of the things that we could see being tweaked as a result of removing the core set. Facing them towards beginners by introducing them to the new world. I like it.
@ ccmwhite - The thing is they have intro packs for that. The big problem is, unless they adjust DD & clash pack releases, they can't use a lot of card from the new block that isn't released yet. Six or so cards is ok. But otherwise you confuse new players by giving them a standard playable deck....that isn't usable in standard for another month.

I don't think WOTC will stray from the faction vs faction and planeswalker vs planeswalker alternating format of duel deck releases.
Block A releases in October 2016
Block B releases in March 2017
Block C releases in October 2017
Block D releases in March 2018
September 2017 would feature 2 factions from the October 2017 block.
March 2018 would feature planeswalkers from the March 2017 block.
Note that every time there was a planeswalker duel deck released, only 2 of the 10 or so planeswalkers per year are represented so it doesn't matter if none of the planeswalkers from an October block are represented.
So long as the duel deck duel represents a single story from a certain plane, then it is good enough, no matter if it was faction vs faction or planeswalker vs planeswalker.
Another way they could do this is do planeswalker vs planeswalker duel deck for both releases per year, and have the feel of faction vs faction by having a planeswalker leading a faction
Zendikar vs Eldrazi will probably tell what direction WOTC will go with this. If it is still like the duel decks from the previous years, it makes it more likely that WOTC won't change their formula.
They could use this opportunity to tie the Planeswalkers duel decks into the immediate storyline more. Lately they've been retreading old ground from the previous year's block, but there's absolutely no reason why a Planeswalker duel deck couldn't be a teaser for a block, especially since the planeswalkers are ostensibly the protagonists of the current storylines. They could keep the current scheme if they had Planeswalkers from the upcoming block rather than the previous block.
